"venture co company", so venture company company? - gave me a little giggle :)

Fair point hahaha. Wasn't using a script so I guess that's how that snuck in :p

Very nice video. I was kind of surprised to see that Sun Rock Retreat used to be the name for what would become Malaka'jin. I knew judging from the low quest ids that Braelyn Firehand was the only quest giver in the ''new'' Sun Rock Retreat that had quests from before it was added, so it's nice to see now where she was located in the alpha.

Pretty happy to see this zone. It may sound dumb, been playing the game since 2005 or 2006. But this zone in particular, *always* felt like a zone that had a lot of secrets, or a lot of revisions. It was a zone I was always really fond of when I first started playing the game, and when I started learning how to get to out of bound areas (and later getting on private servers to just fly), seeing alll the extra oddities outside of the map really made me feel like there was a lot of zone removed before release. Seeing the alpha state have such stark differences in their intent on player exploration, and just overall mob/lore/pathing differences, really just brings it home to me that this is arguably one of the most revised zones that they did. (Of course other zones have had revisions as well, Stonetalon just has so much extra bite to it in my eyes and its really hard to explain)
@DArch70610 ай бұрын
Absolutely! There is just something about Stonetalon that's always felt off. Not saying it's a bad zone by any means, but it just feels as though there is some piece of the puzzle missing, it's not quite there: When I got "out of bounds" in the Alpha above Stonetalon Peak, there was actually a lot of empty space that seems like it could have been used. Especially in terms of Alliance quests, Stonetalon is quite bleak. So I guess it's safe to say they left it unfinished: kind of like what they did with the rare mobs, starting off strong and then kind of toning down their own expectations as to what would be achievable. I guess zones like Stonetalon were eventually put on the backburner since they had to move forward with development at a reasonable pace.

Great video! I'm curious how the original and less-linear version would have played, but I don't doubt Dave's prognosis. We're all adult veterans of this ancient game yearning for more. In comparison, me as a child from twenty years ago would probably have hated getting lost and boxed in by endless enemies. It might have worked better if the game's spawn system worked differently; rather than placing enemies all over the map (aside from roads), enemies are much more clustered, and even in the wild, there are open spaces to navigate. Then it might not have felt like a total slog, fighting through enemy after enemy, just to get anywhere in the old version of this zone.

Thanks! Happy to see you enjoyed it :) Yeah, I agree, it definitely makes sense - then again, I distinctly remember not really caring about level restrictions back in the day, and just running around exploring the world. The high level monsters that kept killing me would just make me more curious to see what's out there haha, so I guess it works both ways.

when sod came out me and a partner ran over to the logging camp area to see if they opened it up, hoping they do open up or add onto more areas of the map as sod goes on
@DArch70610 ай бұрын
Fingers crossed, but I wouldn't hold my breath. SoD is nice and I'm enjoying it, and I won't sit here and say that Blizzard isn't doing anything: but it still feels like they are beholden to the input-output equation under which all listed companies must operate: and with the success that Phase 1 of SoD has enjoyed, I'd wager it's more likely we will see more of this (albeit enjoyable) mediocrity, than an actual extension to Classic. In a way, us enjoying SoD and being thankful for what is being given, is probably an indicator to Blizzard that they don't have to do more than what they already are doing.
@zianitori10 ай бұрын
yeah, though the way they're being secretive about stuff does leave room for this to be something bigger, if not in sod, but in a classic plus kind of thing. they mentioned stuff about wanting to expand on the shade of eranikus questline and i feel like that could end up taking us to hyjal pretty easy, and there was a teaser showing the caverns of time open (we ran straight to tanaris to check after hitting 25 lol) @@DArch706

@DArch70610 ай бұрын
Yep! I also have a couple of videos of me actually playing on the Alpha, if you are interested in that. Careful though, the drop-off in audio quality is quite steep - I had just started making videos then :p Might have to revisit at some point

What does the ”beastmaster”-command do? Somehow it got me really curious
@DArch70610 ай бұрын
Basically makes all NPCs non-hostile. Especially in the alpha the aggro ranges do not scale with Level, meaning whether i'm level 100 or not, I will still attract mobs as if I were their level, which makes exploring a bit annoying.

Stonetalon always seemed a bit unfinished with the devs redesigning it a lot. They never added Medivh's stonetalon dungeon from WC3 into WoW.

When you ran into the npc i couldn't see the jumper cable schematic for sale! Is it a chance to sell it?

He definitely had it on the 1.12. version, I think the footage included was from Alpha and there it doesn't exist. It's most likely a limited stock recipe though yeah, so it's on a CD.
