Old Pasadena, often referred to as Old Town Pasadena or just Old Town, is the original commercial center of Pasadena, a city in California, United States that arose from one of the most prosperous areas of the state, and had a latter-day revitalization after a period of decay.
Old Pasadena began as the center of a research hub where science and research institutions such as Caltech and Jet Propulsion Laboratory and companies such as Beckman Instruments, Aerojet were founded. The large concentration of such companies in the area gave it the nickname "Athens of the West".
The area was also an artistic center, the home to Andy Warhol's west coast museum debut and the first Marcel Duchamp retrospective, both at the Pasadena Art Museum (one of the earliest modern art museums in the country, now the Norton Simon Museum). Before that, Pasadena was a center of suffragist and pacifist movements and other liberal causes. By the late 1940s, the downtown area was blighted by flophouses, dive bars, and pawn shops. It later became a hippie destination, with head shops, adult bookstores, and massage parlors. By the late 1980s, Old Pasadena was undergoing a period of urban renewal and regeneration.

Oh wow! I grew up in Old Town Pasadena! I use to live in the brookemore apartments 189 n.marengo in the 90's back when the fire department was nextdoor to the brookemore apartments and train use to run behind the building! I was 10 yrs old! I was a mall rat 😂 man the memories! I remember sleeping out overnight in Colorado Blvd waiting for the rose parade! Hanging out at the Pasadena plaza, and skate boarding! Man I had a flawless child hood thanks to the Good LORD, and my parents and old Town Pasadena!!!

I often stay in Pasadena when i visit L.A. because it's cheaper and less traffic than downtown. I enjoy the vibe in Old pasadena area.

I had the incredible good fortune to grow up there in the 50s and 60s. Back then the "old town" was old and seedy. Still a wonderful place even if it is a bit crowded
