What's with the Genesis/Master System version of Puyo Puyo 2 anyway? It seemed to be THE version that gets remade when this game was ported to other consoles.
Also, the wiki says there's a "Tsu"/Rally mode of this game, although I can't seem to find it.

The Megadrive version is always used as the source as it is a pretty much perfect port of the System C arcade version.

Not 100%, but close. There are two options for audio, clearer voices at the cost of music cut out, or have music always play, but at the cost of lower quality voice audio. Not to mention other versions built further off the MD version, with the Rally Mode, which is in the Gameboy, Game Gear, second SFC revision, called Remix, PCE CD, PS1, Saturn, PS2, and Wonderswan versions. That mode sadly isn't in the MD or first SFC revisions (though the SFC has a unique battle tune no other version has). Honestly every port built off the arcade original, while adding things of their own, save for once again, the MD, and first SFC revisions. I have a lot of versions of Tsuu, all except the Wonderswan and PCE CD, and SFC Remix (working on getting this one shortly). The only thing stopping me from getting the PCE CD version, the $100+ price tag it now commands (while Puyo Puyo CD, goes for under $20). I already have the SFC and MD versions of the original (perhaps the Gameboy one I should get soon), and the only two versions of Sun I have consoles for, PS1 and Saturn (GBC is the one I lack, but have the handheld). Yon on PS1 and GBC are also on my want list. The Puyos that came after, I have no interest in at all, the ones Sega fully worked on. The Nazo's on SFC I also have an interest in, as well as Puyo Puyo Box on the PS1 (which are basically the MD versions on disc).

Apparently, Puyo was getting more popular, so Puyo had more ports.

It seems each character has thier own spells when making chains and say something when Nuisance Puyo falls on thier field. I would like to see this port on The Sounds Resource.

I've come of word to tell you that you can access a Rally Mode within Puyo Tsu CD. There's an option in Options (third Carbuncle on main menu) named "Animation" which seems to only be stuck on its default. Beat the game once, then come back, and NOW try fiddling with it. "Arrange1" which is the game's take on Rally Mode, that also contains Puyo Puyo 1-styled cutscenes with all 33 opponents in the game, fully voiced and acted! If you then beat that Rally Mode, go back into Options and play around with the Animation option some more, "Arrange2" which is the same Rally Mode, but with different cutscenes for the cast of 33 opponents! That's pretty much all, unless you want to see for yourself if there is a 3rd batch of Rally Mode cutscenes or whatever. I already wasted over an hour with Rally Mode the first time and making the mistake of playing without Margin Time at all, causing single Puyo pops to send a whole row at worst, leaving me to get knocked out quite a lot! So, you wanna help and get a video out for these as well? I can even try playing through these on Hardest just for shows, to have my take on the mode. Difficulty DOES NOT affect cutscenes, nor would continuing affect who you fight, since Masked Satan is at the end of every Rally-based mode in Puyo Puyo Tsu ports. --LarviStar

I agree. The original Puyo Puyo CD had good music. And Fighting Street (Street Fighter 1) was a game that used the CD capabilities for the music really well. This one is just terrible.

@@FluffyGameplay 613 MB CD size as it is, they weren't too far from filling the CD, unlike the first game. They would not have had the room for the music in CD quality, plus the clear voice samples.

Most of the music and all sound effects are done with the FM synthesis chip

Real shame the soundtrack for this port is awful! The Gameboy version sounded better! It's especially jarring if you ever played (or listened to) the first one.

@davintheraven this was literally the result of poor sound programming everything from the music to the sound effects sounds like fucking trash, where it could sound very close to the arcade version, or at the very least be similar to the wonderswan edition with the similar sound hardware

davintheraven I would vote on the Saturn version being the best way. You can choose what opponents to fight on floors (without some shitty spinner), there’s an Easy mode, Rally Mode, added opponents, Manzais and more endings (with both having full voice acting, Arle is sadly still the only one who has voices in battle), and better music from Puyo Puyo Tsuu DX.
