On the Italian coin with the "axe" at 4:23 is a boat rudder. The thing coming off of it is the handle to turn it.

The Farthing is one of my favourite coins from England. It was a tiny amount of money. There were FOUR of them to ONE penny. They were TWELVE pennys to a shilling, and TWENTY shillings to a pound. That meant that you would need a staggering 960 Farthings to make a single pound. Even by 1950, the farthing was so worthless most people stopped bothering with it. The Royal Mint quit with the minting of Farthings in 1956 and they were finally withdrawn from circulation in 1960. The bird on the coin is a Wren, a tiny little bird.

Little or no value. #7:10 "Farthing" = 1/4 Penny (12 Pence [Pennies] = 1 Shilling 20 Shillings = 1 Pound) This system (Pound Sterling) was abandoned when England "decimalized" the Pound (100 Pence = 1 Pound) in 1967. #8:07 "ETAT FRANCAIS' German Occupied France (Vichy State) #8:51 Early Italian coin.

3:28 Devaluing and revaluing are not the same thing. When a currency loses value, like the Turkish Lira back in the 90s, that is devaluation. But when a currency is updated for a new one with a rate of 1000:1, that is revaluing. Oh, and I have a tip for you. One hundred yen is worth one dollar, not ten cents as you might have thought at the time. Recap at 6:53 A farthing is a quarter of a penny at that time.

1:43 That five pence is actually quite special,as it was the variant that was released when the decimilization system came into Britain in 1971. It's actually bigger than a normal five pence.

All the British coins you had were the two most recent monarchs, George VI and Elizabeth II. The Hong Kong coin had a portrait of Elizabeth II which I had never seen before. The Millard Fillmore is a token which was a gas station giveaway from the 1960s

@@@TreasureTownCoins You'd have something a bit rare if you'd had an Edward VII coin. He was George VI"s brother and was king about 7 months in the 30s, and was not Coronated. He's the one who abdicated to marry his American lover. British coins and commonwealth coins which show the monarch have each new monarch facing the opposite direction of their predecessor. Edward VII would be facing right like Elizabeth II. I haven't seen a recent enough British or commonwealth coin to know if they've changed Elizabeth II's portrait. There is a young one of her 1952 to about 1967. Victoria had young view which I think changed to an older view in about the 1870s. I've picked up a bit of this information from my recent interest in mudlarking and treasure hunting videos.

Yeah, I love randam world lots of coinage. You get some right junk and worthless mass minted stuff. The 1948 Half Crowns were mass minted that year: 71 million according to my British coins book. The reason for this was because of the debasement following Britains bankruptcy following the war. If your Half crown had 1946 on it, it would be half silver. The square coin is from the channel islands, off the coast of France. They are a territory of the British isles. That coin is worth a few pounds, but the mass produced later 40's Half Crowns are worthless, only about 25 pence each (local coin shop price, he has a bucket).
