I seen one online and it held up to its name to this day.

I was never an adult back in the 1950s during the time when RCA brought out these indestructible battery powered transistor radios because I seen this commercial on the classic commercials DVD set which I still have because I really liked when he demonstrated how strong these portable radios were back in the 50s when they shown a young lady on a step ladder, dropping a couple of radios from the height of 8 feet and one of the radios had shattered into pieces, but the RCA, portable radio, which was made of thick plastic, really held up after being dropped from their height because back then those radios within $28 back in the 1950s which is $250 in today’s money.

The radio didn't break, but all the tubes did.

Portable radios with TUBES. A set of batteries must have lasted all of an hour.
@td39932 жыл бұрын
@@efandmk3382 no, they lasted at least 20 hours. Battery type tubes only draw 60mA for each filament, and the plate supply is much less.

This originally aired in 1954. Vaughn was RCA's spokesman from the mid-'50s through the late '60s....

There's a guy on KZbin I watch who collects & fixes radios & phonographs who sometimes orders stuff from Ebay that comes broken if they're not packed properly & he rants about it. I wonder if this radio would survive being sent not packed properly.

Why does everyone on these old radio recordings sound much older then what they were when this was recorded?

All they had to do is add retainer wires to the tubes. That would've kept them in their sockets.
