That kid that did the Ariel is no one other than the legendary Jay Smith we used to build skateboards in his garage, he eventually turned Pro, riding for Peralta, Sims, and I think Gordon Smith.

Wow! This was the best place to ride in the late 70s, we spent all day at this park mastering all the bowls. The days of KMET and KLOS rocked at the park.

Skate across.....I always remember this place. I was like 6 years old. I never skated here but I remeber seeing bands play here while people would skate. What happened to the good old days. 😕 now I just heard a couple days ago skateland closed down. REALLY!!!! NO MORE CIRCUS EITHER!!! What's really going on here. Get the kids off there phones and back to having fun. Well at least I was blessed to have lived in the 80's

Stuntman and stunt director Tom Harper, skateboard pro Lonnie Toft, and I used to go together to this skate park and also to Mammoth Mountain to test out Lonnie's pioneering snowboards. Lonnie was way ahead of everyone on snowboards. When I see this wonderful video, I remember the great times as if it were yesterday. Thanks so much for sharing this video and bringing back unbelievable memories that last a lifetime!

I skated with Lonnie many times here and to me he was truly inspirational, for I put together my own 8wheeler and people just didn't get it but I did and it was amazing to walk the board side to side just to turn! I honestly want one of the originals but I had heard Lonnie disheartened with sponsors/manufacturer's burned a whole bunch of boards... To me one would be priceless!!! Epic times! Have a great weekend!

What a great place to skate! I ripped it for years, just 7 walls to hit until they added the 8th with copping and built the combi pools! Awesome! Even had an off road RC car track! What an amazing time to be alive, long live SkaterCross even if only in our minds and in precious footage like this! 🙌🏼✌️😎👍

Thanks for posting this. We used to skate down there whenever we got the chance. Skated with a bunch of the Dogtown skateboarders (Stacy Peralta, Shogo Kubo I think). Place was way ahead of its time.

In the early 80's, I started getting into skating, and I remember seeing this park's remnants out the RTD bus window. It was already closed ('82 or '83) but people snuck in and skated. I was too chicken. I remember Thrasher magazine announcing that it was destroyed and no longer rideable when they started construction on yet another mini-mall.

Me and my buddie skated there on roller skates. Put skateboard wheels and narrow skateboard trucks on our skates. Oh what fun that was.

Flashback! Thank you whomever shot this (super 8 the most emotional of all formats) and posted it. Can't believe I'm finding this (now at 52) I remember my fear the first time ('77) at the top of that (huge to me at the time) wooden ramp. I hesitated, the line behind me grew more vocal... I was chickening out. Then THIS song came on blasting through the speakers kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmGyiZJujtt5rqM and I couldn't NOT go. (open in another tab and play Barracuda while watching this viddy for full effect. Thanks Cadillac wheels, and Heart (you sexy bitches). When you are part of something great... you become addicted for life!

Thanks for sharing that! I had a similar experience. My dad shot this video, and I'm the skinny kid with the blue helmet. I was so intimidated by the ramp at first. It took me a while to go down it.

@mikesrcgarage3 жыл бұрын
Remember both of them well! And yep they shredded! By any chance you remember Bert doing airs out of the last 7th bowl and landing on the backside of the 2nd bowl? It was such an awesome transfer! Great memories, epic times!

@@mikesrcgarage I do remember that! I also remember him doing drop ins into the deep pool they had in the back and then getting big air! After skating there for a few hours my buddy and I would head over to 7/11 for a big gulp and then we'd hit Arbies for a roast beef sandwich. Great memories indeed!
@mikesrcgarage2 жыл бұрын
@@gotsplinters I love the big side of the combi pools and was sad when they filled it in. Had to always hit 7-11 for a Big Gulp!!! Lol! Didn't do Arby's but remember it well! Good times indeed bro! Awesome memories! Have a great weekend!

They had to temporarily close due to family illness , after being closed about a week, Someone or others broke into the pro shop and lifted everything. Still a great park though. Spent many all day sessions there.
