As an Indian growing up in the 80s, my opinion is this was the best era for south africa. Life was good, jobs was plentiful. Though I can never understand why the people who wasn't even born in the 80s that will be the ones to play the racist card. Facts is facts, life was better period. Sorry if my comment offends anyone just speaking the truth.

When petrol cost R40 to fill your tank. A 2nd hand gearbox to replace my one was R250 including labour to remove and fit on my Toyota Corolla 1.6se lift back which cost me R4000. The good old days when our money had value. And parts were of breakable quality and people took pride in offering their best at their respective jobs.

@@rockysablue the ANC is still in power as they still enjoy the support of the voters such as myself, no doubt their are greedy and corrupt individuals within the anc, however to state that people in the townships which is an apartheid scar are worse of is incorrect as if you compare the townships of the apartheid era to the present democratic one more people now have decent home with running water, sewage and electricity, their is more infrastructure and jobs, the townships of the apartheid era were just labour camps for cheap labour in the cities and mines, the only characteristic of townships in the present era which is the same as the apartheid era is that it is still a centre of poverty and inequality

The problem with white SA accents is that there is no single one; it all depends on where the speaker is from: those in Gauteng speak differently from those in Natal, whose accent again differs from that of the Western or Eastern Cape. On top of that those of us who grew up Afrikaans have a different accent again, and even then it also differs according to where we grew up. SA English IS closer to Standard English, I agree, but not so close that I have ever been mistaken for an Englishman! LOL
@chloe7seven22
@chloe7seven22 6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. The accent closest to Brits is if you went to a private school, preferably in the Eastern Cape where the 1820 settlers landed - those English there are quite pedantic about pronunciation. I was a brownie and a girl guide there and we were clipped over the fingers when we misspronounced and I wasn't even in a private school. You're 100% correct.

Ohh, scary, as in how 10% of the population suppressed 90%, by denying them any chance of human rights/ representation, including the right to vote. Then again, I wouldn't imagine you would like the fact that you, the minority, is no longer ruling the roost.

Phippsta Appartheid has been over for 20 years now Whites and Blacks have equal rights now. The government is mostly black and the population too. We all generally get along peacefully day to day

By the late 80s they were trying to mainstream blacks, and the worst apartheid rules were gone. This is Botha De Klerk era and Blacks drinking coffee was hardly Zulu Inkatha. Besides, they probably drank coffee too.

They were hugely disappointing. They only had a thin cheese layer, none of the oozing cheese like on the packaging and ads.
