The water buffalo has the most gentle nature and extremely hard working creator. If God is willing to let me kiss some of them one day.

I live on western anatolia, my grandma tells that water buffalos were common in our town when she was a little kid (around mid 50s) they were pulling carts, working at farms, giving delicious and milk that contains high fat, and their meat was precious too. Now they are not kept as livestock, I didn't ever see one in real life.

Great videos. My Thai wife thinks I’m nuts when we stop to watch the water buffalo plow outside of Ubon. She tells me I should go fishing so we can have dinner. What a great country. Keep the videos coming.

What a great looking buffalo. If American young people today had to work like that they would die the first day. Most can't even get out of the way fast enough to keep from getting hurt. I'm not talking about all, just most. I know there are hard working young people in America but they are few and far between. It's a ME, ME, ME society now. Thanks for sharing the images of how hard people in other countries have to work.

This is the way my Thai Family use to prepare their Rice Fields. The 'Buffalo Cow' that they used was Dad's favorite. Hook her up and she knew exactly what to do, he only had to 'hold on'! The 'first plot' was normally flooded by hand or pump and planted with rice seed. Then the rest of the fields were plowed. Once the monsoon hit, the flooded fields were planted with transplanted rice from the first plot! Amazing Efficient Simplicity!!

All you Americans must be using your newly-fangled tractors to plow your fields but we play our fields to good old-fashioned way with an ox or water buffalo
@bangalorebobbel11 жыл бұрын
cool ;-) Here it's still very common - water buffaloes or cows. The fields are often very small, and/or don't have access to roads - so they use their animals to pull the plow.

The ground looks pretty moist...planting rice? I wonder if that's his field or they've been hired?
@bangalorebobbel11 жыл бұрын
still same. On bigger field they use meanwhile different kind of machines, but smaller fields are usually always done by cows or buffaloes and the traditional plows behind. It's also much cheaper for the farmers - they don't have to pay for machines and fuel etc., and the traditional tools are even supplied at low costs through government agencies.

The bhains’ genus name Bubalus is Medieval Latin for bhains while its species name arnee is from arni, which is Hindi for arna, and its species name bubalis is the dative and ablative plural form of bubalus. By arna, I mean the wild Asian “buffalo” and it is what that bovid is called in Hindi. By bhains, I mean the domestic Asian “buffalo” and it is what bovid is called in Hindi. Bubalis is also a throwback to its first scientific name Bos bubalis. Can you believe all of that?

So, why to use a tractor, if a bull does the plowing just fine plus its food is renewable and in many places free, and its manure fertilizes the ground? No parts to buy, no poisonous stuff to deal with, no gas necessary. It's a shame that people just loosing their old sustainable traditions in the pursue of the more 'civilized' lifestyle,
