@@Luchiville not all mainstream modern rap is pop rap. JID, J cole, dreamville in general has a lot of great lyricists. Denzel Curry, even Kendrick on his non-pop tracks has some crazy wordplay. Hell Nas won a grammy for best album only like 3 years ago. Not that I love the direction modern hip hop is going anyway, I certainly prefer the classic 90s feel. But many modern artists are still keeping the old ways alive, and their popularity proves the timelessness of raw lyrics and grimy beats.
