I am from San Angelo, TX, growing up my uncle and his friends definitely had that Pachuco style. The Pachucos who had gone to prison took it a step further with the prison tattoos, they created a style and look unique to them, my mom called them "Pintos" meaning that they had done time in prison. I always wondered where they got those styles from because this was before American Me or Blood in Blood Out. When I went to the Texas Youth Commission in the 90's I met alot of vatos from El Paso (Chuco Town) and I found out first hand how a bunch of them were from Barrios that had alot of history, they were all gangbangers (cholos) but they had that Pachuco style, I figured that since San Angelo is in West Texas that El Paso is more than likely where we got the influence from. I met some Southwest Cholos from Houston who also had a similar estilo yet they had there unique spin to it.

I grew up in Northeast Houston. My mom’s mother was Mexican, and I remember visiting my cousins in Magnolia Gardens, Denver Harbor, and Second Ward. My cousins were tough and street smart, but I don’t recall seeing much of that Cali look.

Cali look? You mean Chicano/Cholo look? A lot of people don't know but the style actually originated in Texas, specifically in El Paso around 1910 - 1915 during and after the Mexican American war.

without getting into details, there's a difference between California Chicano's and Texas Chicano's.

@@robertmartinez4174 yes there is a big difference but the Chicano style that's practiced in modern-day California has its origins in Texas mainly in El Paso. So there is a connection there.

I grew up in the 80's amongst Blacks, poor Whites and Italians. I never once forgot my roots or who I was. I'm Chicano and the Pachouco style comes from Texas, it traveled westward to Cali around the late 1930's where the Cholo style was born around the 1960's. Originally the Pachucos were named Tirilones. The Slang that spoken through out the Southwest originated along the border of Juarez Mexico and El Paso Texas around 1910 and it is called Calo. Calo originally came from 1600's Gypsy Spain when the Spaniards brought the Gitanos over as slaves, Calo is a code dialect so that the law and out siders don't understand what's going on. A lot of the younger generation doesn't know about their history, they only know what they see on TV and on the radio or on an internet search which have of the time is miss-information. And it's not their fault to be fair.

@@BarrioTirilon1940 The younger Chicano generation is DISAPPOINTING! Most of em too woke with this Latin X thing. I remember Chicano Pride meant AND was a totally different thing back in the 80’s and 90’s. Back then CHICANO PRIDE WAS AT IT’S STRONGEST

@@BarrioTirilon1940well said carnal the culture is slowly changing every where not just in Houston. And it seems like the youngsters just make fun of their own chicano culture instead of embracing it.
