A very nice install, I love the amps. I was very surprised to discover how much amplification matters for the mids and highs. Running wideband on an MSS3, I swapped my Steg QM75.4 to a much "warmer" (I used to dislike these terms) Sony XM-4020 and felt so relieved I couldn't believe it. I was also surprised to discover there was no change in frequency response, despite so audible change in how I perceive the sound. I talked to ChatGPT about it and found out it might be about transient response, harmonic distortion and intermodulation distortion. So, amplification DOES matter. P.S. Very good wiring, Joe. If it worked, it was good enough :D And of course, kudos to Pssound for organizing it all nicely for the customer.

"do you modify cars in Australia like we do in Europe?" my reply to a manufacturer was, "the customer would have a heart attack if we told them we need to make modifications to their expensive car". then again, the industry here is full of f-wits, thats why i gave it the two middle fingers back ten years ago. i still have the passion for quality audio in a car, but i cant see myself doing anything to what i own the way i did many moons ago. i would rather buy the right car for the audio, if such a car exists. older cars are much more solid, metal wise, than the plastic cars we have today, and also have more real estate to work with. i just wish we had left hand drive cars in our countries, would make kick panel installs much easier. panel noises drive me mental. also, i still havent taught my kid how to listen to music. thats the biggest reason i wont do anything to our cars, that is, until she asks me to teach her what to listen for (at home first), and then when she tell me that she wants the car to sound like the home system. until then, i'll just relax.

The golf really is a great sounding platform to begin with too solid build heavy cars. Not so good without proper time alignmentment and sub can have nulls in certain frequencies where they cancel out with the door speakers and without more phase shift options like the hd zapcos have.

You can’t dix those problems with any phase shift.

Hi Peter, My plan was for this aummer to (finally) install my setup with one IB 15 in the trunk, 6.5" in the kicks and 4" with AMT tweeters on A pillars or dash. Now that I watch this (helpfull and informative as always) video I think; there is probably room in in the passenger side floor to the front, for a sealed enclosure for some 11" Vifa dual voicecoil sub that I have laying around... (which with 2 of them went pretty deep, ported) My Helix DSP Ultra can handle it the extra front sub. Is it a good combo with a IB 15 in the trunk? Or better leave the IB out? Its fun to occasionally have the very deepest bass. Which I havent had so far. But overall normally I am for less is more. Like the yellow car with the The End amplifiers... What do you think Peter? I am curious....

I still have doubts about that bluetooth module. I mean, connected to an Android phone or player with aptX HD support, sure, quality will be decent. With a bitrate of 576kbps it comes close to a regular 16 bit Flac file. But I see you use it with iPhones and iPads. Apple doesn’t support aptX so you’re stuck with the basic AAC codec at about 250kbps. This is less than a decent mp3 file at 320kbps? You always tell us that it all starts with good source material. You’re the reason I started replacing my mp3 collection with FLAC files. But then you go and promote a 250kbps AAC signal over bluetooth? It just don’t makes much sense to me.
@pssound97498 ай бұрын
For critical listening i use APTX with DAP, but i have Apple devices for daily use. Having the songs in lossless is crucial for sure. True, we can all keep shouting about APTX HD being “only” 576kbit/sec, but it’s also at 24bit @48k. 16 bit provides each sample with 65,536 possible amplitude values. 24 bit provides each sample with 16,777,216 possible amplitude values. As such, 16 bit provides you with 96dB of dynamic range between the noise floor and 0dBFS. 24 bit provides you with 144dB of dynamic range between the noise floor and 0dBFS. End of story is that it’s just as good as old CD quality and you can’t tell the difference with your EARS now vs wired digital connection.
@Bimmerstye18 ай бұрын
I wasn’t really questioning aptX HD. I agree with you on that. My concerns were more about the fact I’ve seen you use Apple devices with that bluetooth module and those only support AAC. But now you’ve explained that for critical listening you do use aptX it makes sense. Doesn’t AAC sound pretty bad when you use those Apple devices? My car only supports SBC over bluetooth and it sucks big time. Isn’t AAC comparable to SBC? In my car even high res FLAC files sound bad over bluetooth compared to the built-in USB ports. I’m still looking for a way around this so I can use Tidal in the car but so far I’ve come up blank and I’m stuck with USB drives. The car can play and control Tidal. So the functionality is there. It just sounds like crap...
@pssound97498 ай бұрын
@@Bimmerstye1 interestingly iphone/ipad doesn’t sound that bad with BT. Yes, there is difference, mainly on top-end, but overall it’s not terrible at all. I use the iPad because of it’s Retina display for video playback and most people are amazed by the sound.
@Bimmerstye18 ай бұрын
@@pssound9749 Unfortunately SBC in my car does sound bad. Also most noticable is the top end that's missing but the entire thing sounds mèh. There is no dynamic range or depth. It just sounds dull and unengaging compared to music played from USB. It's a little better with Tidal now than it was with Spotify before since I'm not compressing an allready compressed file but still. A FLAC file over bluetooth sounds far worse than a 320kbps mp3 over USB. I'm thinking of getting one of the Match P&P DSP amps for BMW. These also support the bluetooth module but I don't know... I had one in the past and it sounded OK but I never got it to sound great tuning it myself. For years I tinkered with it and in the end I never really was happy with how it sounded. That's the reason I kept this car original for the most part. Just to have some peace of mind and just enjoy what I have instead of putting hours of work in it trying to get it to sound a little bit better...
