To be honest kids: we never ever needed electoronics way back. Raw, powerful and simple. That was motorcycling. I miss those golden years of thunder.

Correct u are once motercycles got full.of electronics they ended up same as the cars all junk with repair bills out of this world..points are fine for me..should of let things be.but the manufacturers are not realizing yet thst they are advancing them.selves right out of buisness.. keep your old school bikes for ever

I saw a Katana on the road as a kid in the 80’s… coolest looking bike ever! I believe in some markets they even had a pop up headlight!

Amazing amazing reviews ... I honestly think super bikes lost their individuality after the 90s ... nowadays all bikes look almost the same .. havw almost the same performance the same.price and the same features. I got hooked on 90s bikes when I got my hands on a beat up 1998 R1 and retored it in its orignal red and white livery... then came 99 Busa ... i am amazed at the reliability of these 90s machines... 8 years since I restored my 98 R1. Its still going strong on just timely oil changes. It even has the same Yoasa battery . Every 3 month I put it on a battery charger over night . Even being carbeuretted I have never felt the need to use the Choke even after weeks of being parked unused it starts right up.

I bought a new GSX 400F [electric blue] it looked absolutely gorgeous! It was the "baby Katana" with similar lines to the bog ones. It had an amazing double peak torque curve, one peak at about 3500, then another about 10,000 rpm. However, the whole package only really 'worked' as a unit when riding at 120kmh - which was above the legal limit where I lived in Australia.

In those days, the engine was the biggest appearance factor on any motorcycle. Now with all of the cladding and body covering, you can't see the engine and even if you did, current engines don't have that look, with air cooling fins, headers coming out of the cylinders feeding the exhaust with a proper Yoshimura logo on the exhaust, the heads with the plug wires and carburetors. Proper looking mechanical components, simple to service and get to.

one of my favourite. if only suzuki will re-issue this design, not the new version. Suzuki also made the 250, 400 and 650 cc version as well which is super as it allows people across the entire power spectrum to have a choice for themselves. The only thing i would add is ABS. The others are not needed.

Agree. They should remake it keeping the looks the same. It still looks modern, even by today's standards. Maybe update the engine a little to meet modern emissions standards. I own the 650 Katana which is a lot of fun to ride.

@@bluteyThe 650 katana is my favourite all time machine. I have 2, a 1981 and a 1983. I also own a 1988 Honda CBR1000F, called the Hurricane in some markets, beautiful condition and a GSX1400 in Silver, not the best colour but a great bike. I had a Hyabusa too but sadly I had to sell her. The Katana is and will always remain an iconic motorcycle.

@@MotorcycleMadness-r1y Nice collection of classic bikes you own. I've found with a couple of bikes I owned previously, it always felt like you were sitting _on_ something. With the 650 Katana you feel more like your sitting _in_ it and become part of it, almost like you're wearing it.

Hang on .. . We didn't get a 750 Katana in the UK, not unless you count the ugly thing with a pop up headlight, we got the 1000 with flatside carbs (rare) or the 1100 on cv carbs, there was also a 650 and 550, the 650 having shaft drive, neither of them as nice as their bigger brothers.

No it wasnt. The original was a replica for the 1100 pretty much and was sold alongside it. I had one in 83 and i have an 83 model that in my workshop right now. The pop up came in 84 and strangely ran beside the original 1100 which never got the pop up or the single shock rear suspension.
