To this day I still miss Dean Sorensen He was there and incharge for not only me and my 4 brothers, but also for our parents & aunts generation aswell. And was always a close family friend to all of us since he was classmates with our grandmother... Dean was always such a chill & friendly dude to be around even as the principle to so many of my family through out the decades...🤗

I’m really surprised (and bummed) that you didn’t talk about all that crazy stuff UNDERNEATH the school. My friends and I stole the keys off the janitor (maybe that was you! Sorry 🤣) in 1986 and discovered the bomb shelter with beds, a shooting range, a tunnel stretching underneath the football field all the way to Whittier for emergency evacuation, and all sorts of weird things. Remember finding a way to watch people swimming from underneath, and waved to our friends in the choir room through the old fashioned wall vents behind where the teacher stands. So much fun running up and down the ramps, and so many other fun memories. On South High 🎶! Class of ‘88 ❤️

Susan oh don’t despair Susan. There’s a lot of stories to the schools. If you’ll notice my Highland High has three installments and I believe West High also has three installments. I still have stories to tell there. This is the first part of South and trust me there will be more stories stay tune for future episodes are usually do one a month on the old schools of Salt Lake. Not sure when the next one will be on South high but I know you will enjoy it.

I worked for the AV Lab that was located on the North East corner of the basement. Anyway, we did repair work on TV’s and install a ton of wires for TV and alarms and such. Those wire pulls SUCKED, but also gave me access to a lot of South High School depths by the pool area and steam plant. Kinda eerie, as we would come across chairs and stuff, stuffed way way into strange place that you could only crawl to access. Anyway, I love these videos because they take me back to the days of 86~88. I went to West High, and grew up in Rose Park. What a great place to live, back in the day. Thanks Mad Dog Merv. I’m a fan of this channel.

Forgot to add that the AV Lab was at West High...

Matt DeGooyer Thank you for watching! I remember when they moved the AV lab out of there to the south end of the building in a much larger area near the cafeteria. Do you remember Ron Jensen? He just barely retired from the district. South was always one of my favorite places that I’ve worked such a beautiful building and so many fun and neat nooks and crannies to explore.

Maddog Merv Yes I do remember Ron. I also worked with Phil (can’t remember his last name), Dave Spencer, Dwight Lindsey, and a few other faces. It was a student work program. Harry Mingo was the electronic’s teacher at the Tech Building. I was paid 4:04 per hour, which was a ton of money for a 16 year old and higher than minimum wage. Do you remember Mr. Bonner in the Auto Shop? Man, he was old school and I loved Auto Shop. I worked on my car after work until bedtime almost every night to get it painted. Bonner sprayed it. Unfortunately, it was a POS 1974.5 MGB. It was a half year with the first rubber bumpers. I later smartened up and had both a 1970 307 Nova and a 1971 350 Nova. Miss both greatly. I don’t know if you follow KinDigIt who has a shop on State street. He mods cars that are on a show called Bitchin Rides. Anyway, he was a west high grad as well. Loads of talent came out of core schools and it’s so great to visit all the memories your vids enable recall. It seems like an innocence of a time that this world has junked.

Matt DeGooyer oh yes I remember Mr. Bonner, when I worked there I actually went in on a weekend and got my car stuck on the lift and couldn’t get it down until he came to work on Monday! I thought I was going to be in so much trouble but my boss just laughed about it as it did Mr. Bonner

The end date is wrong south high was closed in June 1988 not in 1986
@maddogmerv4 жыл бұрын
dvate Yes thank you for clarifying that. Unfortunately when I put this piece together I went by the records that the school district had and they showed 1986. My good friend and officemate was part of the last class that went to South high in 88.

@ Maddog Merv Hey I heard how you had said how you didn't have any shots of the interior of the pool area, and sadly I lost my yearbooks for South and my 3 remaining siblings can't find theirs either😓🤗but then I remembered something good that may let other none alums of south see what it looked like! 🤭 You see one of my old classmates was working at South Campus CC and he had his workplace stationed in the old cafeteria area which has been turned into a massive multi-function clerk area nowadays, and when I was visiting him one day he had told me that a hollywood production company had used the pool area for one of the fight scenes for their movie, so I found out what the movies title was, and then waited for it to come out so I could watch it. And now I've remembered the show again, and look what I found here on KZbin (The Fight Scene)😁 So here's the link for it from: The Substitute - 3 (1999) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWOcaZ-vbKmtr9E Hope it helps the viewers who would like to get a chance to see it...
