I'm 66 and I remember the old Swansea, and it was a much nicer place than it is today!

Swansea has suffered from the ongoing ineptitude of SCC. Swansea was built by doers. It's now run by talkers and it shows. It's heartbreaking to see such a beautiful City turn into a rotten core of the county.

Castle Gardens close to where my grandparents lived in Wine street went there often thankfully loved it very much ..

I wrote a song regarding huge corporate stores like Asda (then owned by Walmart) were largely to blame for Swansea starting to look like every other city/losing it's identity. It's about how shocked I was after returning from the USA how Woodfield Street in Morriston is unrecognisable only a decade after Asda opened. It used to be local owned biz like fruit and veg, butchers, furniture stores etc etc. Now it's just shuttered windows, off licences, bookies and tanning salons. Such a shame.

The only reason they good rid of that lovely garden in castle was because they didn't want to pay gardeners I bet rubbish council

There needs to be a green space, like a park, in the city centre (other than the church grounds). Swansea used to look far more appealing

what about the many parks ? there is brynmill, victoria, cwmdonkin, singleton and others. also there is crymlyn bog and burrows and theres the gower peninsula

@@iaw7406 Swansea has fantastic parks, agreed. I love walking in all those you mentioned. My point 7 years ago was that the city centre itself was devoid of green spaces. In 2022, this has been greatly improved with the greening of Kingsway and the area by the new bridge. There's also the new Marina Park.

People going on about how nice Swansea used to be are looking back with rose tinted glasses, a lot of people remember the derelict copper works and the slag heaps which resembled WW2 Stalingrad, along with the river pollution and crumbling dockland, there is much more things to do in Swansea now, yes the city centre struggles with homeless and drug problems but so does every other city centre.

I remember years ago, reading on a placard by the castle, Swansea was named Syens Island by the vikings, I asked my mam and my auntie , but they hadn't heard that ..I have since found it in a book, How place names began!

Remember the boat shaped swings on Swansea beach, used to be by the slip bridge,and remember the lovely park near the castle, they turned that into a concrete jungle with a fountain . The Swansea council have done a grand job of destroying the appeal of the city ,and wasting money,the bendy buses was a disaster. But they are learning from their mistakes

Much nicer place back then. Not so friendly and pretty any more. It's depressing.
