I have an old Traxxas Hawk 2 that we've sort of resurrected. Had to bodge the chassis a bit, because we couldn't find an original one, and we upgraded the stock plastic gears to metal gears and made a couple of other modifications. But I kept all the original parts, because I built the thing in 95 and loved it SO much that, if I can ever find a chassis for it, I'll COMPLETELY restore it. Good on you, Kev.
@CorvusHyperion6 жыл бұрын
I remember doing the same as a youngster, first one was the Tamiya Racing Buggy Champ, which was the car way before the Frog etc. I then moved on to the Hotshot and multiple other Tamiya cars. I'm 46 now and back into the hobby after more than 30 years! Loving it.

I can see just from this video that you were kinda like me. You worked with what you could get your hands on. Heck, I still try to find Meccano parts to use for repairs on things. Sometimes I use RC parts to fix or modify other things such as other toys. Don't be ashamed, Kevin. You did everything you could to keep that childhood memory alive. And I'm damn proud of you.

My first was a Tamiya Blackfoot, oh the memories..... so cool to look back once in a while. When I used to strip out a screw hole, I would put some CA glue in it and swirl it to coat the hole, kind of like building up a layer so the screw can fit tight again. Aloha!
@modelnutty65036 жыл бұрын
yupyup, a bit of hard wire or a pin, usually takes 2-3 times, just have to be careful the bottom of the screw hole doesn't get a puddle making the hole too shallow. sometimes that can be fixed with a little drill bit if it happens.

My 1st Real RC car was a Tamiya Manta Ray, I coveted it and my mum gave me £100 as my main Christmas, that was enough erm in 1991 i think at 17yrs old, had a few Nikko toy grades before that when i was 13-14. Loved building the Manta Ray, sexy looking and drove ace. I swapped it for a dirt bike and the new owners got it run over by a Police car a week later :( Bike was awesome though, got 2 years bashing on it before it needed retired!

Bringing back some memories cant believe how many screw's are stripped, it is not going to take much of a bashing. There is a race series that allows only these oldies, the Nostalgia series have thought about entering something myself only trouble is I would have to buy something I let all my oldies go a long time ago, only oldies I have are 5th gas but would like a Tamiya DF03 Dark Soul as it was the last one I raced and only it one meeting before I got the 5th scale racing itch again as I had already raced an FG Baja/Marder and got myself a MCD Baja 1000 Trophy Truck to race onroad in the outlaw class, keep the big wing on it and get some slick's and wet's I have a couple of pairs of slicks already to go race when money got tight so went to a smaller class thinking it would be cheaper. I enjoyed seeing the bodges, some the same as one's I carried out.

those original cracked front hubs, carefully set needle nose vise grips to close the crack, give a drop of CA then clamp the crack shut. after that dries, use some red sewing thread and CA to wrap it tightly 3 layers (lightly wet with CA) wrap 3 more layers, CA moisten again, then go 2 more wraps, it'll be plenty solid again! after it's done you can even smooth it up with a little jewelers file or fingernail file and hit it with some clear coat, you'd hardly notice the fix. works best and stronger if you sand/scuff the plastic before doing the thread wrapping, it'll lock up like really strong fiberglass, only takes a couple minutes too!
