Hi, glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you have time to check out a few more films on my channel. Maybe you could make a short video of your canoe for your channel? Thanks for commenting. Dave

Really enjoyed this one Dave, the effort that goes into single-handedly filming, especially when taking to the water with the shore shots is impressive. I also liked the last bit of you hauling the canoe up that very steep bank, those make your video such a joy to watch, cheers. D

Hello David, thanks for the positive feedback, very much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the video. Paddling videos are always quite tough to film because of the shore shots. On a few occasions, I've spent an age setting up a shot only to find that most of the paddling was out of frame. It's surprisingly difficult to paddle the correct line in the frame because the perspective on the water is so different from that of the shoreline. Thanks for sticking with the channel during these mini-adventures. Hopefully I'll be able to film some bigger trips when Scotland opens up. ATB, Dave

Thanks Derek. It was good to get out for a few hours. I'm missing the camping but hopefully will be able to put together a few trips as lockdown eases. ATB, Dave

I'm really liking your canoe set up. I've got the Discovery 11.9 also and I'm working on different set ups for it. Current mission is installing foot braces. I like the gear ties (is that what those are?) that you have for webbing. Also, that's some beautiful country you've got there. Enjoy your coffee with a view, friend. Glad I found you.

Thanks for viewing and subscribing, very much appreciated. I'm guessing from your KZbin name that you are a native of Oregon? I have many fond memories of an extended expedition to Oregon. I was seed collecting, working with the USDA Forest Service ecologists. I spent many weeks in the Siskiyou Mountains, collecting and sampling rare conifer species, such as Brewer's Spruce (Picea breweriana.) The Old Town 119 is a really versatile wee boat. I bought it to replace my ageing prospector, which was getting too heavy to handle on my solo trips. I've lowered the seat in my boat and raked the seat back to stop me slipping out. I used long coach bolts and messed about with different heights and rake angles until I found a set-up that worked for me. In windy conditions, I often revert to a double-bladed paddle and make progress into the wind kayak-style. Your foot braces would really come into their own with a double blade. I bought a super long paddle (Bending Branches) and can keep it low to the water, thus avoid it getting 'caught' by the wind, or dropping water into the boat. The straps are indeed tie-downs. I can use them to secure the boat to the roof of the car, then to secure gear in the boat. I also use them when cycling or pack rafting. They are pretty cheap, so it is worth using new or fairly new straps for securing the boat to the car. Once they age, you can still use them for a multitude of applications. I've not been out in the canoe yet this year, due to lockdown. I have been planning some adventures for later in the year though. So, please stay tuned for some new adventures and meantime, you could take a look at some of the older vids. I'm very much a part-time paddler and spend more time in the hills than I do on the water, but you might find some of the hiking vids interesting too. Thanks again for viewing and commenting, very much appreciated. I've returned the compliment and given you a sub' and am looking forward to checking out some of your vids. ATB, Dave

@@daveoutdoorsscotland2854 Thanks man. Appreciated. I've got some ideas for tie downs I'm going to explore. While I do live in Oregon, I'm not native to here. I'm actually from Arkansas. I look forward to more of your videos. I've put a few in my Watch Later playlist. I got my canoe after trying out an extended kayak camping trip a few years ago. I realized pretty quickly that putting gear in a canoe is a lot easier and less time consuming than putting gear in a kayak. And the canoe is a lot more versatile than kayaks. I actually only use a double blade just cause that's what I'm used to. This time of year I'm usually on a trail somewhere. But with current world events, I'm not really doing a lot other than planning things. I've got some good backpacking and extended canoe trips coming up. Thanks again, I'm really happy I found your channel.

Great adventure Dave, nice and chilled out and some great filming there. Alot of commitment goes into filming especially those clips that don't make the final edit. Hope you're keeping well chap. ATB Dave 👍

Hi Dave, yes all good here. Looking forward to some bigger adventures later in the summer. You're totally on point about the filming. It can take an age to set up a shot and film it, only to find it doesn't make the cut during editing. I was out yesterday (bike and packraft) and filmed several segments with dialogue, only to find that I hadn't plugged the mic in properly. Ah well, silent movies are also quite nice now and again :) Hope all is well with you. Stay safe Dave. ATB, Dave

@@daveoutdoorsscotland2854 in all fairness Dave I often like watching videos without talking. If you haven't already, check out Scott Morgans monte blanc video, 10 mins or so and that is an amazing production. His channel is called explorer buddies. Stay safe yourself mate. ATB Dave 👍
