Had some time to get at my kayak! The season is still a couple weeks away here but I want to be ready when I it is.

She's beautiful bro. I have my 2023 120 PDL. And like we all do have many additional accessories, add-ons, and my electronics. I love the Oldtown hull, they're built solid and I can walk all over mine. I just received my Bixpy. I went with the new J2 PP 768, and I also purchased the Bixpy gravity rudder, with the pull cord, cleet. That'll be installed this weekend. Stay safe my friend. 🌊 🎣 😎

How does the motor do? ive Been looking at the NK180 pro and the 300. The 300 is a beast but heavy. Does the 180 work good with the old town? What’s the battery duration?

@mongo4085 ya the NK180 is an amazing motor! It pushed me about 4.6mph on max. If I run at 80% throttle I can go for hours and hours. It's very very efficient. I have used it for multiple 2 day trips without recharging and it has more than enough battery

Clever line system; I've got the Wilderness crate too. I have an older model Topwater PDL so don't have the pre-drilled holes. I've been wanting to get an NK180 for a couple years now. I think I'll do it next year. I've got a side mount trolling motor now. It gets the job done but would prefer having better control.

Ya for sure the side mount gets it done but it's not the best for having control. Honestly the NK 180 has been such a great motor! I seriously love it. I'm using a 50ah battery and can get through 2 very full days of fishing without even recharging the battery, it's insane how efficient it is.

You wouldn't be disappointed with the PDL 120. I absolutely love mine. Thought about maybe looking to change those season but after looking I came to the same conclusion that this kayak is probably the best kayak on the market right now for my needs.

Hey! I've had it on the water real quick to make sure everything works and it didn't track too bad! But it left a little to be desired for sure but I was in a fast current river and it was very windy. I also ordered a rudder for an autopilot I'm going to use, it's much wider than the PDL rudder so it should fix any little issue in handling! I'll be making a short about that when it gets here also!

The kayak isn't wide enough for me to want to use foot controls. I've been having no issues with the rudder steering me. I predominantly use the motor to go from spot to spot

Hey! Thank you! I really love the setup also! Has worked so well for me. The device is called a "Cam Cleat". Just make sure you get one like I did with a bar or piece of plastic on top to stop the rope from just lifting out. If the rope could lift out each time it would be something annoying to deal with on the water all the time! If you have any more questions I'm more than happy to help!

Hey, thanks for checking the video. I honestly love my NK180, I recently just switched to the NK180Pro, and now Newport changed to selling the NK180Pro, and it's amazing. I'm using a 50ah battery and it's impossible to kill in a day of fishing, yesterday I was on the water from 7am until 8pm and still had 55% battery left and I used it all day. Gets my PDL moving 8km/h so 5mph at 100% throttle, but I cruise on 80% and get 4mph. The motor is easy to install, simple to use and a real game changer for having the ability to effortlessly shoot across the lake to check out new spots I never could have gotten to without a motor. I used a cheap Ram version from Amazon. It's a Ram B 111U knock off. Here's the link if it helps you. I had to cut it off a bit so the base wasn't hanging out passed the throttle so it's clean looking but you don't technically need to cut it. Nice set up. For the motor it is detachable? I transport my old town on top of my car. How do you steer or you just locked it in place and use the rudder for steering?

@huanc7996 I also car top my kayak! The motor comes off in like 1 minute or less and I do lock it in place and steer with the rudder. If you check some of my more recent videos I upgraded my rudder to the pacificyakangler rudder and it made steering so much better

@huanc7996 don't need a plate, it mounts directly to the PowerPole mounting hardware. The plate from navarre just puts it more in a straight line with the kayak, I find it a little better but it's not necessary. If you buy a Newport use the code KODY752 at checkout for 10% off your entire order!

I'm super sorry that I'm only seeing this comment now. I did not. My battery will only just fit up front, so I prefer to just keep it in the back. I purchased a black pak pro for this season so I'll be putting my battery inside my crate this season. I'll be doing a full A to Z rigging and uploading it as soon as it gets here!

I did actually, the handle was a little warped and not lining up properly. I had to put one side in a little and then kind of torque it a bit to get the other one, then I left them both loose for a night before tightening it so it wouldn't break anything. I won't buy them for my next kayak as I really barely even used them

Did you ever run it with the motor offset like you have here. I'm thinking of getting a nk180 but I upgraded my rudder to a bigger one and don't think it would work if the motor is straight back on the navarre mount. Did it track ok offset like that before you changed it?

Yes, I have used it like this, and it was alright, definitely a little better with less offset, but I think with your larger rudder, it will track fine. I'm also switching to the larger MK/autopilot rudder this season with my navarre plate but will probably cut my rudder a slight amount to clear the motor when turning fully, even cut I think I will see the benefits of a larger rudder. Hey! So the kayak steers with my rudder control. The NK 180 is literally just for thrust. Works great! Could put it in the middle also, it would replace the rudder and I could attach my rudder cables to turn the motor like I do my rudder but I prefer having it setup like this. This way I can go with a motor or without and it's easy. If I replaced my rudder I'd need to use the motor everytime

Yes definitely need the mount for the Newport but you might want to upgrade the rudder I found if the current is strong it’s tuff to steer because of the plastic rudder I’m thinking to upgrade to the auto pilot rudder or the Navarrow aluminum rudder

Hey! Newport vessels has a small hole and pin that you put in place to lock the motor from being able to turn! If I ever want it to turn I just attach turn cables and remove the pin.

I thought that u might have considered the scenario where your motor is on and u make a hard left turn, and say something hits the rudder first to lift it before the motor is also lifted.

why do you need a rope for reverse?

@miamiwax5504 The motor by design is meant to lift up if you hit something, so it's not locked in position. If you reverse and it's not lock in position it will lift up out of the water backwards. The rope is to pull and lock it so it won't lift when reversing. But I don't reverse with my motor so I didn't put that rope. Only the lift rope
