Another neat thing about this game is the reason behind the graphical style. See, in order to allow the 'play any cd' feature, they had to be able to fit the entire game onto the PS1's ultimately pretty tiny RAM, as was mentioned in the video. In any game, the vast majority of file space is taken up by image files. Sprites, textures, whatever. So how did they save space? By not having any of that crap! Every single graphic in the entire game was drawn using line generation. the only files present are text and audio. It's pretty rad, if you ask me!

Not really. This game presumes the ability to press any two of the command buttons at the same time and helps learning how to do that by making the movements for every comand very distinct (thumbs simply press down, while index fingers simply pull towards you). As such, putting buttons on the corners will make for an incredibly awkward experience, as you'd need to use two fingers per hand on the screen. Even a PC port would be slightly awkward, due to every finger doing the same movement, increasing the learning curve. In other words, this game was made to be played with a controller and it would be very difficult to reproduce the experience with a keyboard or touch screen.

I think we actually got introduced to this game via the exact same demo disc, which is absolutely crazy man Love that you gave this underrated gem the respect and attention it deserves! It being released only in Europe & Japan was a dick move (and really strange too since Parappa & UmJammer were definitely given US releases) and definitely contributes to its obscurity, but being a Brit it didn't stop me!

I actually got this game off the PSN recently, and I love it, though the desync is putting me off (it's the PAL ISO released on the US PSN). Kinda wish there were a PS3/Vita remake with MP3 support, leaderboards and custom tracks among other things. Oh, and they made the game simplistic in the graphics and such so it could be loaded into the PS1's RAM as noted earlier with the CD function
