Mr. ‪@tshansen‬ visited me the other day. He is quite an experienced adventure motorcycle rider, and that's exactly the opposite of me. I have just bought my first adventure bike, and would classify myself as a newbie / beginner when it comes to adventure motorcycles.
I asked Thomas if he could take a look at my bike, some parts I had bought, and maybe suggest what I could do to improve my bike. He said "sure", and luckily I had my camera near by 😁

KZbin suggested this channel to me👍😃 probably because I am a follower of Thomas or also could be because I was searching for a ‘silent’ compressor movie. Which was fun to watch👌. Makes me think to change my channel into english instead of dutch. Keep up the good work! By the way, love your country 🇳🇴

Hi, cool to hear to that you are following mr @tshansen. He has a very unique style on his videos, every adventure rider should check out his videos. I took a look at your channel, do you still have the BMW GS? That's a fantastic bike! I find it very fascinating to know that anyone in the entire world can learn, get tips and tricks or be entertained from watching my videos. The feedback I get is also much more enriched when I get it from all over the world. I have also come into contact with other content creators outside of Norway. In other words: I am very happy for my decision on making a English speaking channel. And I got to practice my language skills as well 😊

@@kihestad hi, yes still have the GS. Great bike! Although this year I drove the trials bike way more than the adventure.

Croc's are imo the most important biking/camping upgrade I agree, the Italian is better 😋 (moto guzzi V85TT owner 😁)

I am not very familiar with Moto Guzzi, had to Google your model. It's really nice, It has some retro vibes over it! I hope one day to get hold of a older classic moto guzzi fixer-upper bike, I love these engines ☺️

That Cagiva is a legend. But it clackers horribly. What's wrong? Hope you get the old lady running like new again. I've been riding an old Honda Transalp 600 for the last three years (and some other bikes and scooters). The PD06 saved me a lot of bucks compared to an new Tenere 700, which I put into travelling. After ACT Pyrenees last autumn it's ACT and TET Romania this summer. Yes, it's an oldtimer with no electronics, but fairly easy to ride. And certainly not too much of a bike. Liek your Elephant! Cheers from Nürnberg/Germany, Günter

I am afraid the rear piston is worn and the "skirts" knocks against the cylinder walls at low RPM. It's quite common for these Ducati engines. It's normally enough to buy a new slightly oversized piston and replace it without having to go into the engine block. I'll better start this job soon to get prepared for next season 😬 Seems like you have had some great trips with your Transalp 👍 You cannot go wrong with an oldtimer 😊

@@kihestad New piston and rings, and please inspect the cylinder walls before installing the new parts. Only a few weeks until the new season starts - at least here, in Bavaria. Concerning youngtimers: I also have modern bikes like Aprilia Tuono V4 or a modern Honda Forza 300 scooter, so I know progress. My riding background is road, so I didn't want investing too much into my first Enduro. I was used to "specialists", wheras a Transalp/Tenere/your Cagiva is an allrounder. There are no bright cons in such a type of bike (like the precision of my Tuono, or its engine), but you can ride a lot of tracks. As the name Transalp rightly says... I hope you get your Cagiva running soon. And please, new tyres, as Thomas suggested.

What is the suspension travel on the elefants? How is parts availability?

Hi, I have not been able to test the bike in any terrain yet. It is adjustable öhlin shocks at the rear, should be pretty good. I am 185cm, the bike is probably best for someone less tall than me. I have added 2cm bar risers and tilted the handlebar mount forward, it's much better now after this simple mod. I think the foot pegs are a bit small and a bit high as well, I might end up replacing them with bigger ones and lower them a couple of cm. It can be a bit challenging to find parts. You get good help on forums / FB though. Cagivaparts.eu has a lot of the typical wear parts.

@@kihestad sadly, the ergonomics of all adventure bikes from that era are a bit shit. There are kits that can move the pegs down and back a bit. A higher seat and flatter mx bar will make it feel less like a toilet and more like a KTM.

Hehe, I don't think the Cagiva is too bad when it comes to the ergonomics actually. I hope that with some small adjustments I will be happy. The seat height is actually perfect for me, around 90cm from ground to top of seat. I found it is possible to turn the handlebar mount 180 degrees, then handlebar is then moved about 2.5cm / 1inch forward, and with my 2cm bar riser that makes the steering and seat position very suitable for me. I have now bought some bigger aftermarket foot pegs, but no lowering kits exists for this old rare bike so I have to make some kind of adapter myself. I think If I manage to lower the foot pegs at least 2cm + move them 2cm backwards, the bike will be quite similar to the Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid - I did actually make a comparison with this bike when I had @tshansen visiting me 😊
