There's so many little gameplay details that you haven't figured out yet :) This game is insane. For example: - The other joystick for slashing/tripping. You can also press on it to make it stronger, and you'll more likely get a penalty as a result. - Playing as goalie is really hard but some of the moves and animations you can do makes it super fun. - If you put your controller settings on "advanced", you have a skill stick that is very useful on breakaways (think you need to hold B). - You can grab the other player by the jersey while fighting. For non-gameplay related details, in franchise mode you can scout players for the draft and you can actually play with the prospects. You can play games with each continents' prospects and see how they play and it helps you draft players you like.

@whitneysmiltank10 ай бұрын
@@TheNasher61 It had been a little while since I last played, so I went back and tested the "skill stick" just in case you decide to make another video. So if you put your controller on "advanced", you'll have to hold the left trigger/button (depending on the controller) to do a few of the actions. For shooting, if you don't hold the trigger, then your player will hold the wrist shot animation instead of going for a slap shot. You have to hold the trigger for it to be a slap shot. You can also fake your shot but I don't remember the button to cancel the animation. They probably show it in the "controller layout" menu. For the skill stick, it will only trigger when you are kinda close the opposing net. In that case, you have to hold the trigger and B (or O on playstation controllers) and you can then control your stick with the main joystick. If you release them, your player will shoot the puck from where the stick blade currently is. Absolutely great for breakaways and it blew my mind when I was younger, it's just unfortunate that it was never considered as a main feature as it is hidden behind a specific setting. I also suggest going into the settings/sliders and slowing the game down, but that's obviously down to your own preferences! If I had one complaint about this game is that they don't have some sort of a "be a pro" mode. Love that you make videos about this game, hope you make a few more haha. Cheers!

Gotta say it: Monopoly kills creativity and depth in video games! EA has the monopoly now and so they don't have to do anything deeper or more fun than they are already doing because there isn't another modern game with licensing to compete with that. Indy developers and modders could probably do it but they wouldn't get the right to produce for consoles or probably couldn't get the licensing.

EA is REALLY screwing themselves without the features from 2k5. NUMBER ONE reason why I stopped buying sports since 2020, its all copy and paste from year to year. Plus they take out things you like and put them back in year or more later and call it a new feature! WTF! WHY!? One more point is, they BARLEY improve them game year over year. Even if they did improve something they'll take it out and give it back to you a year or more later.

Just goes to show how bad the ps4 era was for the nhl series. If the graphics, skating, and passing mechanics were taken from modern games and sent to 2k5, it would be absolutely amazing.
@coolioso80810 ай бұрын
That's the crazy thing, it's just the graphics and some gameplay mechanics that modern games have that these older games don't. But in terms of features!? Older games like 2k5 blow all modern games out of the water! It seems so simple: Just have a developer implement all these 2k5 features into their next game while their modern graphics and gameplay and fans would be thrilled! But... wait! Then how are they going to scam young kids into stupid micro-transaction modes like HUT!?! Ah, there's the problem! It's not that they couldn't make a great hockey game, it's that they don't see as much money in it.
@brandonhall995910 ай бұрын
@@coolioso808 whoever in EA thought that the investment of money into development wouldnt help sales is entirely incorrect. Offline gamers have left en masse because the game hasn't been developed to a good standard in a long time, also if they had a legitimately good game it would sell itself. You wouldn't have to pay the marketing team a fortune to sell a dog turd. Idk it seems simple to us, maybe I'm missing something
@coolioso80810 ай бұрын
@@brandonhall9959 No, you are right. A out-of-the-box good game would sell itself much better than a crap game with micro-transactions and stupid card-collecting features! Offline gamers, those who came up in the couch co-op era when a fun game was one that you could play with your buddies locally, but also have some deep franchise mode stuff for your own enjoyment, are tuning out of the only sports game franchise in town. Or at least drastically reducing how often they buy into it. The sad thing is I hear they still make enough money from those micro-transactions to keep those features in and not spend time and money on deeper stuff like seen in 2k5. They haven't had to make changes, no competition and that's not a good thing in this industry. Maybe one day it'll change, but I don't see that day coming soon.
@brandonhall995910 ай бұрын
@@coolioso808 wouldn't it be common sense to bring back the old guard that left due to the lack of changes, leave the micro transactions in, because I don't really care if they are in, if they aren't forced on gameplay, though I don't play offline so I'm not affected by this( I also don't know how much it affects offline). My main gripe is with the AI, this game series has needed a major overhaul for awhile. Functional AI that isn't coded to cut corners and cheat.
@coolioso80810 ай бұрын
@@brandonhall9959 My concern about microtransaction features is that they spend time and money on that each year when they could be spending it on deeper fun features like Skills Comp, Arcade Modes, deep Franchise Mode and Sky Box, etc. as in 2k5, and they don't put in that kind of content to the game because it can't generate them more money after the initial sale. That's my main concern with micro-transactions. I don't care they are in if I don't use them, but I worry about the time and money spent to keep them in the game. I agree they should have developers who know how to code good AI so the CPU doesn't cheat to win, they out-play the human player to generate goals and opportunities. But going back to the monopoly thing, what incentive does EA have to make great AI? There isn't anywhere else for modern gamers to go.

EA are lucky that 2k are not making hockey games anymore. I can just imagine what 2k could have been
@coolioso80810 ай бұрын
It's not just that 2K isn't making hockey games, it is that either 2K or EA become monopolies and don't have to do innovative, cool things with their game because they are the only game in town. I'm sure a 2K hockey game would put pressure on EA to be better, that would be great. But the current state of things trends towards damn micro-transactions! Games coming out in the 2000s didn't have that so they actually had to put more content into the game on release to have a chance of getting good sales. These days, the base game doesn't have to be great, and can be filled with micro-transaction side content that doesn't add any couch co-op or individual fun, but is a cash cow for the developers. It sucks. But that's where we are at this time.

NHL2k5!!! To me ESPN NHL2k5 was the best hockey game ever made. Personally I had it on the Xbox. The amount of depth in this game, especially during those years if you compare with EA's NHL, was IN-SANE. The actually gameplay was top tier of course, but the game had so many little details. You could play as classic teams, you could change so many settings, change rinks, see and even BEAT actual records, design your jersey, create your own team, etc.. The amount of stats in this game was absolutely crazy. They also pretty much had everything Eastside Manager used to offer in their GM game. The EA NHL games were late to catch up that we enjoyed playing as real GMs, handing out contracts, bonuses and making you use common sense when managing your team. I don't know how this got recommended to me lol but I'm thankful for it. It reminds me of some great fun I've had. Those were better, simpler days.
