I'm apparently quite the odd duck in my family. I love Horehound, Root Beer Barrels, and Black Licorice. I will regularly get them from the modern general store equivelant, Tractor Supply, and my family will look at me like I am buying something utterly disgusting. More for me so I'm always happy regardless of their tastes

Horehound is good, especially if your throat is scratchy. Sen-Sens were one my grandparents liked, but a little soapy for my tastes. Now real sassafras is a candy I miss a lot. Haven't seen Black Jack gum for awhile, it was a 19th century candy that was still popular when I was a kid in the '50s and '60s.

And the not - so - well known battle late in the War Between the States, the battle of Nerf Run! The only battle that had 0 casualties, except for a sprained ankle, and a few minor eye injuries. 🤠

I do know of several museums in the UK which still makes sweets, what you call candy, using old the same equipment they did over 100 years ago which you can buy.

I like strange tastes. Raw liquorize and honey in the comb for instance, or the sap of dougls fir. I like to burst the little bubbles in the bark. Its yummy!

I was born in Boston & quite familiar with the Necco & Baker companies. Loved those all-chocolate rolls of Necco. I would imagine chewing gum was popular, too. My dad said they would knaw on the hardened sap from trees like the spruce & fir. As always, thanks.

ok, so 1200 miles from a nerf dart eh? lets look it over so, the dart is shot at about 1:25. Santee gets hit at 2:27, Thats about a minute. in feet, 1200 miles is 3.6 million feet/60 = 60,000 fps. 60,000fps = 41,000 miles per hour. You wouldent say "ow" when you got shot in face, you would say "..." because youre head would have exploded from a nerf dart hitting your head while at the same time going faster than the voyager 1 spacecraft.

But some things used for candy was & is good for using as home remedies that work great when ya are sick too. Just like many things in your spice rack are. Blessings

Stick candies and drop candies were the most common. Cookies such as raisin oatmeal, molasses, Apple cinnamon with apple...oh wait that was a baked good. Any how candies were more common in towns and cities and were readily available if you ever got off the farm. In that case mom's cookies were always favored by all...even dad.
