Miller sounds like the kind of man you would be VERY fooish to cross. When I listen/watch stuff on the Wild West, Mafia, Kings and Queens of England or modern crime I get the impression "The more the things change, the more things stay the same" is one of the most apt expressions. Humanity hasn't changed. Just our outward coat we use to hide what's under it. And Miller was the perfect example of this.

Good job, as usual, and as a native born Pecosite, I was happy to hear Pecos, pronounced correct. I'd like to have a dollar for ever time I heard my hometown pronounced , pee-kos. Killin Jim Miller was one of several ' interestin characters', that called Pecos home, at various times, during the heyday of the 'wild west' period. There's been a whole mess of ' bigger than life' colorful characters, in it 140 + yr history. I've had the privilege of knowing a few of these, in their old age, in the 1980s, both men and women, and listenin to their stories of ranchin life in the early 1900s, was what got me intrested in the history of the west, particularly the l during the latter half of the 1800s, and the trans-Pecos, region, of southern New Mexico, far West Texas, and northern Mexico. I've been fortunate to have access to Indian campsites, in remote areas, on privately-owned lands, from the north eastern Texas panhandle, to the Davis, and surrounding small mountain ranges, of Southern far West Texas. I'm familiar with many of stories you feature, and I appreciate your narrative style of story telling.

I also do not at all consider my brother-in-law‘s or brother-in-law’s to be family. And there are a lot of them. I have nine sisters and I’m the only boy. Not only is my wife, the favorite, daughter and sister-in-law she just absolutely the favorite Non-instant family member, not only among the “in-laws” I have always been truly blessed. I literally went from single to married overnight, I was four hours late for my “shotgun” wedding (My family being the ones holding the metaphorical shotgun, and it was pointed at me). Been married 13 years now. Two gorgeous daughters She’s still 109ish pounds, undeniably beautiful and perfectly shaped by literally anyone standards, Sunday, school teacher, But doesn’t act it when I have hankering, has literally only ever turned my “hankering” down three times in 13 years, those three times justified. And I have been a handful in every way I am not deserving of her. Back to the brother-in-law‘s. Only two out of six marriage sisters like their own husbands. They are either cheaters, or thieves, beaters, and cheaters. Too bad I can’t get in touch with Deacon, Jim Miller. Sounds like the man could and would bless my whole family.

Sheep farming requires relatively less labour than most other kinds of agriculture. As a result it often caused the eviction of tenants in Britain. This was already a problem in England by the late middle ages. Many Scots migrants coming to America before 1850 would have been fleeing the Highland Clearances. Whole Scots villages were evicted en mass to create rough sheep pastures. I expect those bad memories from the `old country` made them fear Sheppards.
@WildWestExtravaganza6 күн бұрын
It mostly had to do with the way sheep grazed and fears of sheep scab
@DocHolliday-hz6iy4 күн бұрын
I love the objective nature of your usual analysis, so please take this as minor questioning of your reasoning. You said there is no evidence of a secret meeting. Ah, yeah, it was a SECRET meeting. In my experience they don’t exactly take minutes or leave an official record. Again, no disrespect, love the show.
@WildWestExtravaganza4 күн бұрын
Thanks! And no disrespect taken. Not sure exactly what you’re asking, though. An author, decades after the fact, speculated that there was a secret meeting. It’s just that there’s no evidence of such a meet occurring. Course, if it did occur it’d be a secret (shhhh!) and if properly conducted, nobody would know. But there’s still no evidence.
@DocHolliday-hz6iy4 күн бұрын
@ Understood. And agree. We’ll never know. My only point was that the wording of the description seemed to suggest that because there was no evidence, it most likely didn’t happen. But if it did, there wouldn’t be any evidence either. Thus, it’s a question left open as opposed to a presumption it never occurred. Semantics. I don’t mean to be overly picky, which is exactly how I sound right now. Hahah- appreciate the response, and again, love the show. Love your delivery and side comments. Keep doin you thing partner.
@WildWestExtravaganza4 күн бұрын
I get it. I can’t remember if the part you’re referring to is an author I was quoting or my own words. A lot of the historians are very adamant that Miller was not involved and that there was no secret meeting. I tend to agree but not so adamantly. It could have occurred and Miller could have done the deed, but I’ll just need more evidence than an author’s speculation.
@DocHolliday-hz6iy4 күн бұрын
@ Fair enough my friend. The accumulation of evidence as opposed to the scant amount on the other side is a good argument. I retract. Haha. Thanks again partner.
