When I think of Calgary 100 yrs ago i think of a old dusty western town. This is amazing. How did "pioneers " build this magnificent city?

Lived in Calgary for several decades. I learned so much interesting history and saw so many changes. The bank of Montreal became an HMV music store for several years. Inglewood is steeped in history

Funny, when you mentioned fire, what comes to mind is how many devastating fires in major cities happened here in the US over the centuries, either by accident , so we are told, or intentionally as an act of war. So I poked around a little bit and discovered that the 1800s had a proliferation of fires in many cultural centers around the world. Then I start wondering. I'm working on the theory that the New World was inhabited by advanced civilization similar to Europe and had built structures similar in style to the European ones. I'm wondering if the early explorers were tasked with destroying any people and buildings here that would go against the narrative that it was a land of somewhat backwards natives and virgin lands. And later explorers, who facilitated the westward expansion here in the US, had the exact same agenda. The cluster of fires in the 1800s makes me think a great reset did occur somewhere in the 1800s.

Who built all of these beautiful, enormous structures? Who financed the construction of this magnificent architecture? I think they lied to us about the past; I know they're lying to us now (about everything)! Are you in Calgary? Have you looked at the provincial capitol buildings (throughout Canada)? They all look so similar to each other, and also similar to a few enormous, grand hotels, scattered across the country. I'm a "displaced/misplaced" Canadian living on the California coast 😎❤️

I'm in Northern BC. Not many old world remnants where I am but I have looked at much of what Canada has to offer. The rail companies and their hotel building extravaganza in the late 1800s raises some questions to be sure. I think the fact that they're lying to us now, and the fact that so many are waking up to it, is driving the hunger for the truth about our past. I'm happy to be a part of it and glad you enjoy the videos!!

At the 19 min mark, looking at the Central Methodist church you noted curb work again. I noticed the grass and side walk. I was a 4th gen native of Phoenix, AZ My Great grand parents would talk about having no Air conditioning in the 1920-30s and the whole neighborhood would bring their mattresses out to grass section by side walks and sleep at night so it was cooler.... Good ole days lol

I love the videos from your stomping grounds (my friends to the north) . Check out a picture of the "Longfellow Bridge" in Boston bud . It will make you scratch your head at the similarity to the one you showed here . Also , is it just me or should there be SOME pictures that contain snow in the record there ?

Similar buildings were "built" in Helena Montana around the same period. Where did all the craftsmen come from in the wide open cowboy country of Montana??

The name Paskapoo really caught my eye. I've never heard of it before. Apparently it means "blind man" in Cree. Well, paska means sh*t in Finnish. So, poo-poo? Etymology can be a wild ride sometimes. Maybe it's nothing.

What was the population of Calgary at the turn of the century? These “Tartarian cities” are way too big for the number of people at the time….are they not?

Sandstone a soft cut in easy to transport especially on the plains. It bothers me that you have a problem with people being creative and being able to carve soft Stone in the 1800s but you would have no problem with somebody doing it today? Today large stone buildings need support to prevent the upper portions from crushing the base. This is true today and it was coincidentally always true throughout history. The older buildings made of Stone or smaller brick needed a heavier Stone base so the upper Stone portion wouldn't crush the bottom portion. This is how it always had to be done and it's why multi-level 100-story skyscrapers today have to have extremely deep steel anchors going tens of metres underground. Why is it an issue in the 1800's but not for skyscrapers?
