I remember in gradeschool one of my friends found a vulnerability in the Mac 2s that were linked together in a classroom, this was way back in like1994-5. He set me up dude! 🤣 He told me to open up display settings, and in this window there was a textbox that accepted typed input. Well I guess one parsed text, x2 wasn't recognized, and he knew it, so he told me to type it and press enter. I did and...KABOOM!☠️🤖☠️ The computer suddenly crashed, showing the crosseyed computer icon and uttering an error bleep. I was shocked! Then all of a sudden other computers in the room started to do the same, crashing and bleeping, since they were all networked together. Me and him bolted out of that classroom like lightning. The computer teacher never found out who did it. He actually blamed another kid. The teacher unfortunately spent hours and hours trying to correct the problem and had to cancel like all the classes that day! He was pissed. I don't blame him, just one Mac 2 in those days was worth 11k! 😬. That old friend who told me to crash a computer is now a prestigious computer science professor at an ivy league university. 👍🤣

0:42 and 0:53 are really interesting variants. Being familiar with death chimes for over two decades, you'd think you heard 'em all! At 1:18 my old PPC 5200/75LC used to only play the last four notes when there was something really wrong with it (except it didn't have the Sad Mac icon); it sounded identical to 1:42, but at normal speed. Also, it had TWO different death chimes (probably because of the fact that Apple shoved PPC stuff into a Quadra 68K-based LC logic board, which was a bad idea lol)

The alternative variants for the Mac II were likely added in order to distinguish self-test errors from OS boot errors (the latter variant being for failures early on in the self-test sequence), just like how some Old World PPC Macs and newer 68k Macs have different or extended death chimes for self-test errors.
