Maybe in some podunk deserted County in the midwest but this is New York where a closet with a mattress crammed into it will cost you 1k a month to rent. It had already been destroyed in 74 anyway and was way too cramped. It couldn't even qualify for the national register of historic places because too much had been altered. It wasn't even the same field level as it was originally.

@@dtnetlurkerwell you’re correct about the year which was ‘74 but it underwent a 2 year renovation because of space issues so they had no choice but to enlarge the stadium and add new technology to it, but then they decided to close it on September 21st 2008 and demolish it from 2009-2011, they had a long history behind that 85 year old stadium and now it’s gone for good never to return to The Bronx again, but our new stadium looks even better with space but unfortunately their food beer ice cream and snacks prices are through the roof as for the old stadium they were much cheaper

@@Jiltedin2007 That's what many said about Yankee Stadium but it happened. Time moves on and different outside factors could make it happen eventually, storm damage, fire by vandals, a bombing, a city that decides it wants the space for something else and is hell bent on getting their way, or a new owner that decides it's time to move on to something new with more seats and better concourses and more conveniences, if a large part of the upper deck failed and was ruled unsafe, it could gain popularity in a big hurry with the major deciding forces like the city and team ownership. Many things can make it happen faster than you might think. The history is all that really matters and the only thing that will truly last forever.

I miss the old stadium sooooooo bad. It was almost like losing a best friend with all of the memories and amazing times I've had there from the worst of seasons to the greatest. My Grandfather/best friend took me to my very first MLB game there as a 8 year old little kid and remember it crystal clear...kinda hard to forget when "Donny Baseball" walk-offs a 2 run shot in the bottom of the 9th just over that short porch in right and EVERYONE was going absolutely insane! I've never herd the roar of a crowd that loud in my life and it was amazing! When the new stadium opened up back in 2009 I got to see countless games in the Inaugural Season and 2 Playoff games too which lead to the Yankees winning their 27th World Series! The new stadium is beautiful and way more advanced, obviously, than the old one but my greatest memories still remain with the house that Ruth built.

When you walked in the old stadium you could feel the ghost in that stadium. Looking around you would say wow that’s where Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantel, Joe D, berra, ext played. I'm not a Yankee fan but as a baseball historian I say this was a terrible thing to do. What they should have done is have the team play in another ballpark for a year or two (like they did in 1974-75) and built a new ballpark on that hallowed ground. The mystique and aura of Yankee Stadium was a home-field advantage like no other. Opposing players knew they were on the very same field that were once occupied by Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Maris, Berra, Ford and other legends. The aura isn't there in the new Yankee Stadium. Just Monument Park and lots of statistics. It doesn't compare by a long shot. A major league piece of baseball history was killed that year.

It was years out of date, and it wasn’t worth having to keep putting money into it when sometimes the best thing to do is just start fresh. In fact, that mid 70’s renovation destroyed whatever value it had.

@@RB01.10 Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are out of date when it comes to seating capacity and the fact that those ballparks are older than Yankee Stadium was. But the Red Sox, Cubs and their respective cities take great pride in keeping their ballparks up to date. As I said, they could've built a new stadium around the original field, but no, George Steinbrenner only wanted the extra revenue luxury boxes would've brought him. He even threatened to move the Yankees to the Meadowlands in New Jersey if the city didn't agree to build a new stadium. Yeah, he owned the team but he didn't give a damn about the game, the players or the fans. He was all about the money and seeing his name in the papers as often as possible. Nothing more.

There are only two old-time MLB stadiums left - Fenway Park (which will turn a century old next year) & Wrigley Field (which will turn 100 in 2014). I have a strange feeling Wrigley will be the next ballpark to go, although I sincerely hope not! What I meant was, the Cubs most likely won't be playing baseball there within the next five to tem years from now. Wrigley Field cannot be torn down because it's on the Chicago registry of historic places. I miss old Yankee Stadium. The new place is odd.

I remember a time when Randy Levine said that the current Yankee Stadium (2009-present) will be a "continuation" of the (old) Yankee Stadium (1923-1972, 1976-2008) by combining the two versions of Yankee Stadium together. In my mind, it is a beautiful park and more modern and hopefully, the Yankees can duplicate the same success they had with the new building just like the old building by winning World Championships. But even if they try, the new stadium won't top the original one.

Nobody stands up... everybody leaves early... I was asked to sit down at a PLAYOFF GAME while 50,000 other people around the stadium were standing. If you want a real yankee stadium fan experience. It was rennovated in 74 but yes that was when it was really destroyed. Even the field wasn't the same because they removed several feet of dirt and lowered it. Even in the 50s they put that monstrosity of a digital clock on the outside covering up the original iconic Yankee Stadium name between the medallions on the front. The current Yankee Stadium,even though it will never be the original, it still rights a lot of the wrongs that happened in the past.

How about a small portion of the outer structure? Or atleast leave the original diamond where Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio and Mantle made history? Who knows maybe they had to do this for Structural reasons or perhaps they just needed to update the stadium to hold more people lets face it you can't fit all of new york in the stadium but you sure can fit a hell of a lot more if you give it a face lift. The Old Stadium was probably having issues with the old steel support beams they were probably rusting of old age which does happen if they aren't repaired during the off season the new stadium won't have so many issues due to new building safety codes. Old buildings have been torn down to make way for the new ones granted some didn't come down on their own in New York but you bet a much safer one went up in their place. I know People think they should be left as museums that would be nice but if we did this then we wouldn't have any free real estate anywhere so you can be forgiven for thinking it would be a good idea but in reality you can just put a museum in the New Stadium making life a hell of a lot easier. Also to the guy with the comment about the Colosseum the Romans didn't build the Colosseum sure it was built in Rome but it doesn't mean they built. The Colosseum was a Gift from Emperor Vespasian to the Romans and a gift from an Emperor to be torn down during that time period would have been considered an act of aggression and thus start a war. So since Baseball was not a gift given to us by anyone and the old new york stadium wasn't a gift given by anyone of true Significance the stadium wasn't more than building to entertain those who attended the baseball games from within. For those who don't like or need the History lesson thats fine but if you all think that this didn't need to happen perhaps you should learn more about structural engineering and how over time stresses build up in steel if not properly maintained it can rust and crack. I have seen bridges with larger steel beams crack from being less than 5 years old it happens.
@pinebarrenpatriot8289
@pinebarrenpatriot8289 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but there's this process known as RENOVATION where you replace and repair sections of a weakened or stressed structure while using temporary beams as support until proper installations are made. It's a rather interesting and ancient technique that they've been using for Thousands of years on other sporting arenas like thingy in Rome. But I'm "sure" multi-million dollar luxury boxes and 8000 extra season ticket holders a year had nothing to do with it 🥴👍

They tore it down because of course, the owners just want more money from the luxury boxes that no one really needs. Greed, greed, greed, and more greed hurts history. Why is American history so neglected in favor of greed? Keep history alive.

Rumor has it, that a farmer in Copake NY buried some of the rubble from the stadium in his fields. The neighbors did not like that, so they fought him in a court case that nearly bankrupted the town.

@gatorcarter Actually the phrase 'cookie cutter" is also used to describe bland things that all look the same in design, ask anyone. And that is the way all they new parks have become. Ask anyone like myself that has seen them all.

It was a dump that had been upgraded too much already. With all the Yank's money, why shouldn't they be allowed to demolish the old stadium. Yeah we all loved it, but we've loved a lot of things that don't exist anymore. Palisades Amusement Park, family members, pets. Life goes on. Stop whining guys!

I wonder if they found anything of historical significance while they were cleaning out the stadium and demolishing it. I mean things like old stadium signs, rolls of game day tickets, or old souvenirs. Small things like that, that might get pushed back into small corners and forgotten.

themeparkfanatic ... Uh yeah, they uh found the skeletal remains of a player wearing number 96. Prolly was some spring training no-name wannabe who died and no one was aware. He uh had on shoes circa 1930 and believe it or not, there was still an afro under his cap. He was Black! Yeah, that's the ticket. A Black Yankee in 1930 I tells ya'.. It's been hushed up though, so uh you won't find any info. But it's true...!

@quagmire2 I watched the video this video was made after a lot of the work was done, but you cant remove the colums unless you remove the two decks taht were on top of them. If you can find a copy of the 1973 or 74 Yankee year book they have pics of the demolition that took place before they started to rebuild. They left only the first level and took every thing else out, I got the year books, I have to find them I haven't looked at them in over twenty years. Anyway Go Yankees!

@tigersruhl84 i agree. the old stadium was perfectly fine... you might as well demolish the white house and build it across the street. And as a person who live just about 10 blocks away from the stadium it broke my heart to walk past and see more parts of it missing everyday

@GMT1221 it was the unions of New York, the whole reason why this famous stadium was demolished was to make jobs for people. I'm not a really big fan of baseball, but this was a stupid action. that stadium was I think 83 or 84 years old (I could be wrong) There was nothing wrong with the old stadium, wait a minute, New York has landmark laws! developers should think of the fans feelings about demolishing a stadium, who agrees with me?

CCOYS BRING BABE BACK TO THE BRONX (BBBB) On April 18, Old and Original Yankee Stadium (1923-1973 and 1976-2008) will celebrate the 90th Anniversary of its Grand Opening. Lets honor the Stadium and the man who built it with a statue...placed in the renamed OLD YANKEE STADIUM FIELDS AT MacCOMBS DAM PARK (near BABE RUTH MEMORIAL FIELD) or in his Plaza at his New HOUSE.

@rockaway25 Yeah, whatever! At least we still have our Ballpark. Where's yours? And we like Bobby Valentine in Boston, especially after what he did to the Mets. There is a Manager any team would be proud of. And our General Manager was the Assistant to Theo Epstein.
You MUST DO THIS When Visiting Yankee Stadium!
