I loved the 70's. I used to listen to Kasey kasum every Sunday and run down the battery on my brothers car. I never missed American Bandstand or Midnight Special. Such a wonderful period in my life. Singers had worked their way up the ladders.They had talent beyond what we see today. Just saying....

As a kid growing up in the 70's... 1977 was a great year for music! FM radio, 8-tracks, and vinyl! Life was much easier then, no damn internet! We survived just fine. 😊✌

But list is not the best. Mine is better. Baby Hold On - Eddie Money - More than a wildcard, Jason, it's my favorite 1.5 Baltimore - Randy Newman - Flooded over with emotion - nice, Jason 😢 2 Deacon Blue - Steely Dan - Great pick Kramz 3 Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty 4. Tonight's the Night - Rod Stewart 💋 Spread your winds and let me come inside 4.5 " Dreams" or Go Your own way - Fleetwood Mac - Jason's Love of "Dreams" is right on. 5 Live version of Miracle Man - Elvis Costello Stiff Live Stiff. No one knows it but it's better than on "My aim is true" 6. "I just dont know what to do with myself" (the great Burt Bacharach) - Costello. Live Stiff I'm not Angry (anymore)/ Welcome to the Working Week - Costello My Aim is True 7 Pretty Vacant or Done you no Wrong - Sex Pistols Any order, not important: Dust in the wind - Kansas - I knew a woman who didn't like rock at all but loved this. Even if not "rock" .. I'll take it and take her back as mine if only I could. Heroes - David Bowie and Brian Eno You belong to me - Carly Simon Sound and Vision - David Bowie Running on Empty - Jackson Browne Sentimental Lady or Ebony Eyes - Bob Welch Take that Fleetwood Mac! Easy - The Commodores. A great song.❤ Lovely Day - Billy Withers Only the Good Die Young - Billy Joel. Good song from a cheesy chameleon songwriter who could fit in any century . Graham Parker is the real thing. Lust for Life - Iggy Pop Marquis Moon - Television Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel 😊 ( I truly great song that I dont care to hear) Fool (If You Think It's Over) - Chris Rea Van Morrison and Neil Young on French TV. Will to Live - Neil Young 😊 (salmon swimming upstream to mate and struggle to survive) Richard Hell And The Voidoids. Not sure what song. More research needed Psycho Killer - Talking Heads (tired of this song now) Magnet and Steel - Walter Egan (produced by Nicks and Buckingham) Some Wagnerian Rock song from Meatloaf - "You took the words right out of my mouth" or "2 out of 3 ain't bad". Jungle Love - Steve Miller (a catchy song I actually like from catchy Steve) "Roadrunner" or "Pablo Picasso" - Modern Lovers The Babies - Got the Time is not as good as "Isn't It Time" - Jason wins here but really nobody wins.

@MisterBeauJanGels3 жыл бұрын
@@FreedomPost Inane throwaway comment. As others have pointed out, half these songs weren't exactly big hits, whereas "You Light Up My Life" and "I Go Crazy" most certainly were. The only reason I can figure for their non-inclusion was that they actually peaked on the charts in 1978.
@yossarian67993 жыл бұрын
@@MisterBeauJanGels Billboard had an insane method of calculating the top songs of a "year". They didn't use a calendar year; they used a period from September or October of one year to September or October of the following year. So Billboard's top hits of "1977" had hits from late 76 to late 77. "You Light Up My Life" peaked later in the year so appeared on Billboard's Top 100 of 1978 list - at #3 - when clearly it was NOT the third most-popular song in America in 1978. So Billboard's Annual charts are misleading.

1977 the year I graduated from high school, and I remember about 99% of those songs. One thing about back then, when you listened to the radio it was like one hit right after another after another after another, all day long. I have over 10K songs in my music library and I have compared what I have to the Billboard top 100 song charts from 1955 through 1990, and have in the high 90% range of every year for that time period, so yeah, I LOVED the music back then and STILL do today.

I distinctly remember that on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 broadcast of the 100 biggest hits of 1977 which aired very near to around late December 1977 or early January 1978, Andy Gibb's "I Just Wanna Be Your Everything" was the #1 song of '77. There were some other differences as well. I've seen this alternative ranking of the songs here before. I've always wondered what the reason for the disparity was/is.
@bramlintrent11452 жыл бұрын
Likely, because the official Billboard ranking started off with "Devil's Gun" by CJ & Company at #100, which had only appeared in the Top 40 for a couple of weeks, and had peaked extremely low; Casey was aware that many in his year-end audience had never even heard of it before. It was probably hard for him to imagine beginning an 8-hour broadcast with a song so unfamiliar to his listeners ... In the Billboard ranking, "You Light Up My Life" was nowhere to be found, as Billboard shelved its points for 1978 ... And the #1 song of 1977 was "Tonight's the Night", which Casey thought his listeners would associate with 1976 rather than 1977. So American Top 40 slapped together their own little year-end countdown that ditched "Devil's Gun" entirely, randomly included "You Light Up My Life" and had a #1 that was more associated with 1977.
