The 1952 Ford Anglia was exhumed from the garage and given a thorough warm-up after a cold start to ward off any dampness under its bonnet, then taken for a quick spin down the road to blow off the cobwebs and stretch its mighty 933cc engine to the max ... well, take it for an airing anyway at a steady 30-35 mph, above which things get a little noisy.
Much of my attention lately has been directed at the four-door '48 Prefect, and I think the Anglia was feeling a little left out. Whenever possible I exercise the oldies as and when I can over winter, I usually avoid taking them anywhere near the roads thanks to the salt that gets spread everywhere but this time we did venture out, but I made sure that we hosed and washed it all down when we got home. Thoroughly warming everything through (as opposed to just a brief fire-up which benefits nothing) just keeps everything working as it should, and drives out any dampness that may have formed while being sat out of use. It also gives the brakes and clutch some exercise, and the tyres benefit too from use. Plus, I just like to drive around in it.
