I love the organ. Such a beautiful sound ❤️ I live near Tampa in Florida and there is a lovely historic movie theater, Tampa Theater. They have a Wurlitzer organ that comes up from the stage and is played before movies from time to time. Such a treat!!

I reeeeeeallly enjoyed This! So many of the churches here in my area have abandoned their nice organs and pianos and use electronic keyboards!!! Our Church organist/musician can play so BEAUTIFULLY at the organ, but the keyboard sounds like screeching. She hates it!!!!Our congregation is mostly Seniors,so we have made so much commotion that we are getting our Leadership's attention. She is getting a bit of quality time now. I watched one of our Services on KZbin recently and it was almost as good as being there!!! Thank you!! An entire 30 minute concert Would be nice sometime 🎹🎶👵💖

The hymn you played was so beautiful, it made me cry! I kid you not! The sound of that old pump organ and the technique you need to play it reminds me of my little Magnus chord organ that I had in the 70's. You would need the same technique to make it sound nice & flowing and not choppy. Thanks again for all the cool stuff. :)

I am watching this 1 year late, but it's Wonderful!!! Playing a pump organ is a full body and brain workout; and you do it very well! What a treat, and great explanation...well done, Scott!! I grew up in a home with piano and electric. organ...my Mom was really good on both!! She was Church secretary when I was little, and after her office work was done she would go up in the organ loft and play. The church had a tower that sounded the music for blocks....she would begin with hymns, but eventually slide into the popular music of the 40s and 50s which gave an 8 block circle a real treat!!😀😁😄 I'll never forget sitting in the loft with her and hearing her play!! Thanks for the memories of that time.....💓

My Mamaw had a pump organ and played but never as beautifully as you do. It seems all the homes back then had pump organs and pianos especially, if not other instruments...where did our old style of living go? My Papaw played the banjo and French Harp. My parents could flatfoot and Charleston and Lindy Hop. We had fun in our parlors and living rooms and on our porches and such. I was a writer as a kid and would read a poem sometimes when we had company...it was always corny but fun and they tolerated me. ...Again, nice working the pump organ. I would've hung around all day to hear you play! I did hit the door sometimes when my Mamaw got carried away and just blasted the walls...all of us younger kids would fly!

Even with holes in the bellows, the sound of this organ is solid and comforting. I’ve played some fantastic pipe organs in my life, but something intangible draws me closer to God when I play a simple pump organ. There aren’t that many around now. Usually I find them in small museums. Looking forward to hearing yours after the rebuild. Thanks for the mini-concert! 🙂

Your old pump organ has beautiful tone....Thanks for the tutorial...I love the sound...and your playing technique... My mother was a skilled pianist, quite natural and smooth....She played classical music extremely well. She got an electric organ in the 1970’s....Boy, I hated it....She never learned to play it correctly...and it always seemed brash and obtrusive...

Love the sound of a reed organ! The Mason and Hamlin I have has a bit of a "drone", kind of like a bagpipe, sound to it, (I love to hear bagpipes). I love to hear it played. I had the pumps and bellows redone, and the reeds cleaned, a few years ago, by a man that had worked on them since he was 14 years old -- he was 74, at the time he reworked mine, and said it was the first Mason and Hamlin reed organ he had ever reworked.

I volunteered to help a buddy move an electric organ once. After we got it in the house and started pushing it to it's desired location, about 20 golf balls started flowing out of a little hole in the bottom lol My other organ story was at my Granny's church, they had moved the organ outside to re stain the little platform area it was situated. While it was out there (during the day) it was struck by lightning. Everyone had a good laugh about it though and said they figured it was God's way of letting them know they needed a new organ.

Thank You, thank you, thank you. Many, many years ago when I was given a small electric organ to learn to play on, I knew instinctively that striking the keys like a piano was wrong. It sounded horrible. And yet the first time I ever played in front of people (14 years old?) a woman topped me and said "oh no you're playing it wrong" and proceeded to show me the "correct" technique which was piano technique. I didn't argue with her because she was an adult and a know-it-all. I never played in front of anyone again. But I knew she was wrong. You have finally, 50 years later, confirmed it for me! Thank you! LOL.

We had the most beautiful pristine pump organ as kids, it was 7 feet tall, with lamp holders on each side, fancy carvings on top with a mirror. My sister played it beautifully. There is an exception to substitution. I use a Yamaha CP 300, with a synthesizer on top and play a large theater organ or church organ on it. I use the pedal to make my hands legato. So I can play 4 & 5 notes in one hand legato. It sounds more full. This way people who never learned how to play pipe organ can fake it on hymns. The keyboards never need tuning. Two octave notes in the left hand played legato helps. I have been told people cannot tell the difference.
