Here's the problem with ethical dealers. They spend extra to fix minor stuff to make the customer happy. Now, their used car costs more than the one across the street. Customer says his car is too expensive, and buys cheap un serviced car. Customer may or may not learn that you get what you pay for.

I bought my 2013 Cruze a decade ago and I’m still super happy with it. The only issues I’ve had are a throttle body replacement around three years ago, and then an ignition coil pack replacement after the engine misfired just this past week (which I’ve learned is pretty common for Cruzes that have recently passed 100,000km, and mine is at ~120,000km). Other than that, it’s been amazing. Would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable vehicle.

Yeah man, mine's crazy driving from Iowa City to New Orleans. About a 960 mile trip each way. Mine's got a 16 gallon gas tank, so with the 40MPG highway mileage it'll go over 600 miles (640 miles if I ran it dry.). I can fire up Gasbuddy when I've stopped to use the bathroom or load up on coffee or food or whatever, and be like "Wow, there's some cheap gas in like 400 miles". So besides burning less fuel I end up saving at least 25% on fuel prices compared to if I just had to stop wherever every couple hundred miles to gas up.

A little late to the party but we’ve got a Chevy Sonic with the 1.8 4 cylinder. Decent little car but we’ve had to have its share of work done. Could be worse though. If you are looking for a car that sips fuel that you can likely get cheap is the newer model Ford Focus. I know folks will say how horrible the transmissions are, which some have had their issues. However after talking to the dealer a few years back, I found out the transmission in this is a manual transmission shifted by a computer called the tcm(transmission control module). We had to have some updates done to the transmission earlier in life and had to have the tcm replaced about 97k. Fast forward a few years later and the car now has 182,000 miles. Doesn’t seem to use any oil. Have been using high mileage semi synthetic since 70,000 miles or so. Getting about 35-36 mpg sometimes maybe a bit better which seems insane for an 11 year old car.

These were supposed to be the next big replacement for the Cobalt and sadly they got used as fleet vehicles. The good thing about that is they are dirt cheap and once you fix the common issues they have with the cooling system, they are actually very comfortable to drive. ZZP makes a lot of great aftermarket parts that were re-engineered to fix a lot of the problems first gens had and offer a decent amount of performance. So for $3k-$7k you can find one in acceptable condition, and another 5k-7k for performance upgrades and a tune gets you a fun daily driver with a nicer interior than any Honda from that era. Don't expect a race car, but they are snappy and smooth riding with surprisingly good MPG (Although not the 40 they were advertised as)

the Cruze is the perfect car for the amateur mechanic. Parts are cheap and if you don't mind wrenching yourself, you can have a cheap car that will run forever, provided you make the necessary repairs over the years. Timing belt, water pump, valve cover, thermostat housing, etc, etc... And the reason the turbos fail is because the oil feed pipe that goes to it gets gummed up and blocks. Replacing that little pipe every couple years will save those turbos from blowing up. I think that little pipe costs less than $30 and takes less than an hour to swap out. They installed that pipe right under the exhaust manifold, so it just bakes that pipe along with the oil flowing through it. Eventually the baked oil blocks it up and the turbo runs dry. Ka-boom!

My 2014 Chevy Cruise Diesel has 114k miles on it and it has had no mechanical failures at all at this point..the only issues have been emission sensors and a low quialty Def fluid messages with the diesel variant...not that hard to fix if your handy, but overall the car is very well built and drives pretty nice. The fuel mileage with diesel is high 40's into the 50's with highway driving with 100ftlbs more torque than the Cruise gasoline variant...the diesel engine gives a pretty nice driving experience with all the torque it has.

Nice. I also have a 2014 Cruze with the diesel, 160k miles on it right now bought it at 102k miles really haven't had too many issues a couple expensive ones though. Well one problem wasn't the cars fault, mice got in and chewed up vacuum lines, $600 or so to fix, stupid mouse. AC system broke on me, could've been mine fault because I tried to re-fill it with the stuff in a can and that really broke it. So that was like $3,500 or something stupid. The only other issue was the emissions systems but I have no emission checks where I live so I just fully deleted it took out DPF filter blocked off EGR full tune removed the DPF tank in the trunk now it works great again. That was like $1,900 in parts did it myself though for legality reasons. But really AC and Emissions we're gonna be the 2 biggest things with any older used car so I've already done all that hopefully the transmission holds out and the turbo keeps spinning aside from that I don't see what else could really go wrong maybe some oil leaks but that's easy enough usually.

Oh yeah, apparently the Opel vehicle they based it on, they took one to the GM "Detroit Test Track" (which is crazy, rather than just resembling some rough Detroit roads, they actually laser scanned some roads and made exact replicas of every bump and pothole. Yeah.) They found the "tight German suspension" was severely lacking on that type of road and the back jumped around like crazy on potholes, so the Cruze has a totally reworked suspension specifically so you can whip it around a curve with giant potholes, speedbumps, etc. and everything will stay planted. After recently driving through Memphis and spending some days in New Orleans, I surely appreciated the suspension on my 2013 model!

I have a 14 Cruze bought it with 14k miles. Only problem I had with it was the negative batter terminal was bad from the factory there was a recall. Would lose power to my radio , lights sometimes even the steering would lock up on me and I’d have to turn off the car in the middle of the street. Only happened once thankfully. After replacing the negative battery terminal which I didn’t have to pay for I’ve never had a problem other than parking in the city and people hitting my car while parked at work and running off.. feel like it has a target on it lol

Actually, I really like having the door lock in the center on my Cruze (2014) simply because it's definitely more convenient when unlocking the door. I don't have to reach and search to my left to unlock the door. I love driving the car in the snow as it handles beautifully with the traction control.

2014 cruze lt 1.4T MT 155k miles OG owner. First off I take meticulous care of my cars. Issues, Rear shocks 2x times, crank shaft seal, Value Cover 2x times, Plugs, Coil Pack, Hood Latch, Horn. Brakes 4x weird wear tbh. Wiring harness to radiator fan. Main cover seal. Oil Cooler. Turbo Oil feed tube. Other then the fact that these cars tend to leak oil even have a main cover seal replacement overall I can't complain. I did most of the above repairs myself and parts for this car are pretty cheap. MT has been really good swapped to Amsoil Synco Mesh 5-30 MT every 50K miles no issues with gears or engine itself. I live in Iowa wax few times a year claybar after every winter and I have zero rust on the paint. These cars can not take being abused if you treat it well over all seems to be a really good car overall IMO.

@nyslickness10 ай бұрын
From a current owner of a Cruze 2011 LTZ 104k miles. This video is accurate and I concur with the details! I would also say to do the following which has kept our car running like new: 1. replace your coolant reservoir to Dorman. Original was poorly built 2. change your water outlet and hoses connected to it as car gets hot and they go bad around 70k miles and vapor is smelled on driver side when window opens or comes in through the vents on left side. 3. check pcv valve and cover. Check intake manifold for cracks. Known to go bad. 4. change turbo oil feed line to new one as stock has 1 O-ring and the new one has 2 O-rings 5. if your car overheats check the water pump as they go bad. Highly suggested: change water pump, change thermostat and do the timing chain as it’s all on the same time and saves you money in the long run as parts are cheap! 6. Stabiltrak notification, flashing dashboard or failure of power steering has been sourced to negative terminal on the battery which was identified as defective from stock. Replace negative terminal. 7. Any smell in cabin by your right leg of driver side upward is a heater core leak. This is one of the most costly of the leak is a bad tube and not the heater core itself. The heater core is easy to change but the tube has a bracket that holds the tubes down behind the radio and requires removing some of the dash to reach. More wage than parts expense. 8. If you smell plastic burning when the car heats up and now heater is on, this car is NOTORIOUS for plastic bags sticking to the exhaust pipe below the car. Check to scrape this off. 9. Of the plastic smell is in the vents and is strong when you turn on the heat, potential issue is the glue used in the vents which need to be removed and reapplied as Cruze runs hot! And smokes the application. 10. Change bushings the 2nd time you do your shocks and struts and stick to oem for comfort. All of this has taken me forever to learn about but I hope it helps another Chevy Cruze owner. Car is great, zippy and delivers on gas. Best car compared to its competitors, easy to work on because of space and cheap on parts.

i got my '11 cruze about 6 years ago @52k miles. for the past 4 years, i've had major repairs done over and over and over. the transmission needed to be rebuilt twice, the intake manifold along with minor related things (like non-return valve) needed to be replaced, the catalytic converter and turbo went out (turbo is connected with exhaust manifold too, so it's expensive). also the plastic gear that controls what direction the ac/heat goes through broke, so now air just comes half-ass out of every output. the thermostat housing went haywire (it was then replaced), and honestly i'm pretty sure the thermostat itself is also bad with how it's acting but it didn't throw a code. a tire pressure sensor went out so it reports 0 air, the list just goes on and on

Is your cruze an automatic? I've had similar problems with mine and its 6 spd manual. I replaced the slave cylinder, then the slave cylinder and transmission. These cars don't have turbo issues. They have lack of maintenance from the owner issues especially on the second owners. All turbos need oil and have it and the filter changes regularly with the approved oil. As a cheap car, they tend to get less and less attention to maintenance. This holds true for any turbo car.
