I've been with my mechanic husband since 1985. I can tell you that we have never owned a new car. Normally our cars are from auctions or somewhere really cheap, fixed by him from junkyard parts and fixed just enough to run, no frills. He doesn't like working for free. He works at his "normal" job and always has side work after. His phone rings at all hours 24/7, 365. I hate it. People call on holidays, you name it. No one cares that he might have a life, a family. He lets people get by without paying and most never end up never paying and then want help again. Grrrr He has a hard time saying no. I would at least like them to pay for their parts since most of the time I have to pay for them and go get them from the parts store. Anyway, the point is, you can't go by what a mechanic drives. Ironically, my husband is a Lead Master Subaru Tech. lol My parents both own Subarus and my husband drives one. I don't. Maybe sometime we'll find a beater one cheap enough for me. lol Have you never heard the saying that the plumber has the leakiest pipes in town? Guys that fix stuff don't want to work on their own stuff at home. It's just the nature of the beast and they sure don't want to spend money on the new stuff 'cause they know how much of a waste it is.

@michaellingle15 жыл бұрын
Scotty, when I was selling used cars, and someone was looking at two cars, different brands, say Chrysler n Accord, same mileage, customer would likely ask, "why is the Accord so much more $$$?" Answer: "when u buy any car, new or used, all you r buying is UNUSED MILES, the Accord costs more because it has 200,000 miles left in it, the Chrysler is just about toast." That comment sold a lot of Toyotas and Hondas.

Happy to know my 2013 Civic is on the list. It has been absolutely trouble free. I did recently slap a new battery in it just because the original factory battery was still in it. I’m a maintenance freak. Also recently got all new rear brakes...they were toast. It needed rotors, calipers, and pads...it was all shot. Runs like a champ and reliable as hell. I picked it up used a little over 4 years ago. I found out it was a Hawaii car. I insisted they threw it up on a lift so I could inspect the underside for rust damage before I agreed to buy it. Salt air is always a red flag. The only thing that annoys me about it is those stupid tire pressure sensors. Every winter season, I slap on my steel rim mounted studded snow tires in my driveway. The stupid tire pressure gauge lights always go on. Screw it, I have a compressor and tire pressure gauges.

I've owned a '98 and a '99 Camry, and put over 300K miles on each, with no engine or automatic transmission issues on either one. The things were bullet proof as far as the engine and drivetrain went. They were hands down the most reliable and trouble free cars I have ever owned. I finally sold them because they were old as heck, and starting to look a bit rough around the edges, but they were still driving great. I really don't know how many miles they eventually had on them, as both odometers stopped working sometime after turning over 300k miles. I continued to drive them several more years with no engine or drivetrain problems, so I don't know if they made it to 400k or not.....but I suspect that they did. Pretty awesome when the first thing that gives out is the odometer. I seem to recall having a couple power window motors go out toward the end too. But seriously, I don't recall ever having a problem with the engine or transmission. I've also had great luck with both Honda Accords and Civics, but I don't think they were as bullet proof as those Camry's. You really can't go wrong sticking with Toyota or Honda if you want a reliable car.
@Bundy7145 жыл бұрын

Similar story: old lady in a Ford Fairlane ran stop sign in parking lot (claimed she didn't see it, I'd just turned in from rd) n totaled my reliable beloved - wadded like aluminum foil @ ~ 10mph. Hers: zero damage, mine: totaled out n only got $500!! Police report with her at fault! Ugh, still a lil bitter...

Yeah man! HP laptops suck. I switched to a Mac and have been using it heavily for work and leisure and it still works like a charm. Worth the price imo.

HP Laptops are far more dependable than some other brands. Battery will burnout after a couple of years because all Lithium ion batteries have fixed discharge cycles. But the motherboard, keyboard, touchpad, display, webcam all runs just fine. HP laptops are not the best in performance, but does really well as a tough workhorse, and won't leave you stranded.

I had a 1995 Toyota Corolla. with over 300,000 miles on it. That thing ran great! I couldn’t kill it! The only reason I got rid of it was because I was tired of driving around in a 95 corolla. I still see it zooming around town today. Toyota makes a great car. Honda also. I’ve had older civics that just wouldn’t die either.

An unintended ode to my vehicle: I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I absolutely love it. It has about 70K Miles on it, and I’ve never had any issues, except a broken windshield which was a rock‘s fault! The jeep took me from college graduation, across the country, all over the West Coast, then over to the south, we drove to the courthouse to get married in it, I picked up my husband’s urn in it (he passed away), I brought my newborn baby home in it and in two weeks I’ll be driving it to take her to her first day of fourth grade! So my jeep (who I’ve named Ruby) is kind of part of the family. She’s taking me through thunderstorms, the icy highways in the Rockies, down to the beach in Florida, and everywhere in between. She’s never let me down!

Cam phasers go out like the Fords. Otherwise just normal maintenance. Because of the pricepoint Toyotas usually actually get serviced but I've gotten to watch an old pickup spatter the bottom end on the highway.

I've got an 04 accord v6 auto and Its a pretty damn good car. It's got 310,000 km and it's never had an issue outside of regular scheduled maintenance. My only complaint is that the timing belt which needs to be done every 160,000km is a real pain to get out due to the limited space the v6 leaves behind.
@Winterstick5492 жыл бұрын
I sold my 06 to some friends. Its been 8 years, an additional 70K miles and still going strong. They did replace the timing belt thou.

My car made the list! 2013 Honda Civic. I bought it in 2021 with 245,000 miles on the dash. I was like $2500, let’s do it! I’ve started this thing up in 2 below to 100 degrees. Every time she starts. No maintenance in 7500 miles other than oil changes. The previous owner took great care of this vehicle. I recommend the 2013 Civic for anyone who would like a $20 fill up & hit the road for 6 hours before you need to pull over. I’ll buy this car again for sure.
