Great info. I am looking for an RV the next six months when we mostly retire. I have looked at Ramblers and Alpha SeeYa’s among others but it will be an older model for sure. Thanks again!

We didnt know when we bought it, but the Alfa comes with an awesome community. Because they were limited in production, the group is a small and our coaches are all similar.

Liked the video. A few things to help you two on your Alfa. 1. Look on the upper inside mirrored panty door. You should have an equipment list of what came with your model. Of course, the big slide needs to be out to do this. 2. Fridge isn't stock. They are usually a Norcold or Dometic. Most people on the Alfa forum have swapped for a Samsung French Door fridge. This allows for the doors to be open. I believe they are the counter depth model. I personally installed a Frigidaire French door. Instead of a drawer for the freezer, it has two doors just like the fridge part. It doesn't have an ice maker or cold water dispenser but I didn't want that anyway. 3. Unless the couch and chairs have been recovered or replaced, the material is called Ultraleather and is cleaned with just soap and water. I think I read even 409 but I would try that on a inconspicuous spot first. 4. A/C and forced air furnace filters are up in that gap just over the bedroom cabinets. 5. The dash pivots up and there is a prop rod on the right side in case you need to work on anything under the dash. Hope this helps.

We too are right at the pointed of no return and will settle-into a retired state of mind when Sherry finally retires her full time work. The Wife and I have just jumped in feet first, deep, to renovate our first Class-A. 2001 American Eagle (EU) that we just purchased. Hope things go well but still anticipating couple bigger issue ahead. Wife Sherry had agreed to tackle the entire interior, looking at new flooring ideas, wall paint, and reconditioning the cherry cabinets and replace all hardware. Tons of little stuff to keep us busy… you and your husband is such a inspirational influence. Keep up the great DYS Channel work.

@RoamingWithRosie
@RoamingWithRosie Жыл бұрын
Thank you. We've become friends with dozens who have new or slightly used 5th wheels. Many, like really a lot, are involved in lawsuits over faulty construction. This is for average to high end trailers. We really believe that all RVs that were built before 2008 were better. But, big but, it depends if they've been maintained. For us, that means things are wearing out. Being able to do a lot of work ourselves, Meaning Jamie, makes that viable. We also made the decision to have 2 motorized vehicles. Because if or when one breaks down, we have transportation. So the Motorhome with a Toad is what we decided on.

Congratulations! Baby steps. Just know when we own older rigs, replacement time for things is on your watch. So keep some savings and have a plan for roadside assistance. We have AAA, FMCA and Good Sam. And where will you stay if it's a major repair or if finding parts takes time? We can't plan for everything, but we know we can get help if we're stuck.
@hgrunt100
@hgrunt100 Жыл бұрын
@@RoamingWithRosieAbsolutely, the repairs are a big consideration. I'm fairly handy with everything but the mechanics, so part of the journey will be repairing stuff. Already had a crack at a faulty GFI outlet and some PEX stuff for the fresh water system. I was lucky enough to get to keep my "home-base" - this will (and already has) served as a place to stay when my rig is in the shop. You guys champion the idea of not selling everything and going into it head-first, so I've tried to follow that advice!

We bought our first RV from a private party. We had a RV inspection done to check all of the components - Fridge, AC, etc. It cost $650 I think it was a good investment. @@RoamingWithRosie Do not attempt to fill in the blisters or cover it up with a vinyl wrap. You will be throwing your money away. Only way to fix the blisters is to do what J. Gonzalez is doing, a reskin. But, living in Az., do you have a bad blister problem right now? Blisters are caused by trapped moisture in in the wood underlayment and when it freezes, it pops through the skin. Many Alfas in the Southwest do not experience a blister issue or it is not a rampant blister issue. I live a few miles south of Lake Tahoe. It is very dry here but it does get below freezing in the winter. I have a few blisters, but not bad. Most of mine are on my electric bay door.

I have two questions... First, have any campgrounds refused you because of the age of your motorhome? Second... for the passenger, while driving, is there a cover for the stairs? If not, is there enough room for the passengers feet? Is it comfortable for the passenger?
@RoamingWithRosie
@RoamingWithRosie Жыл бұрын
We have stayed at campgrounds in Mesa, AZ that had a 10 year rule. Both required a phone call and photos of RV. Then no problem. One snooty park near Sedona said no exceptions. We have had rallies with upwards of 30 Alfa Motorhomes. All have said they submit pics and never been declined. Our preference is always public campgrounds anyway and there's only a size limit that sometimes is an issue. And yes, there's a cover for the stairwell. 🙂

@@RoamingWithRosie That's awesome, thank you for the response. I would love to see the cover in a video if you can fit it in sometime. Also, so sad that Alfa is not longer a company. It looks like one of the best overall builds (without spending over a million dollars). Would be awesome to see someone revive the company and produce motorhomes to the same standard as the original.

I love the interior height. I am assuming that Alpha lowered the basement storage height therefore lowering the floor to get the ceiling height?
@cryptonian8627

It has a basement air conditioning system so nothing on the roof, Alfa simply extended the roof higher to the height of where the air con would be. Same height as your average 40ft RV on the outside but a foot taller in the inside.

Been looking at different Rvs from 1970s GMCs to Class A Gas and Diesel pushers; Been reading about different brands the pros and cons; I've noticed a lot of people bash Alfa yet I like the looks of it and think the 36 is a good option for a solo traveler. Have you found any of the issues that people write about, i.e delimitation, to pitting, to A/C coil issues, slide issues, etc?
@RoamingWithRosie
@RoamingWithRosie 2 жыл бұрын
We haven't had any delamination, we do have some pitting, as far as A/C issues, slide issues, etc. I think your going to have those issues with any RV that you would by. Things wear out and there is nothing you can do about that. Maintenance can help from premature wear. We love our Alfa mechanically it's been great and yes we have had to make some repairs. We new that going in buying an older rig. Hope this is helpful and thanks for watching!

My HR Endeavor has 4 slides and not a superslide.. They are a double edge sword. great when out but a pain when travelling. I can get anywhere in my bus with the slides in. I am not sold on the Alpha's I test drove an Alpha before buying my HR.. There is no comparison in my view...Perhaps you got it at a good price and that was what was appealing to you. My 07 HR has sideways opening bay doors, aluminum wheels and full body paint. The Alpha has fiberglass sides and decals..Don't get me wrong, it is a nice bus but the quality and fitment of a HR is far superior to the alphas as well as the roadmaster chassis. good luck on the road.

Loving y’all’s videos and creativity. Subscribing now. I have one question I hope you can answer. As I’m watching this, I’m going to look at a 2002 36’ Pace-Arrow gas unit today. It appears to be in mint condition with 21,000 miles but definitely needs an update. Since y’all have experience with the older RV’s , have you experienced not being allowed into certain parks due to the age of the RV, and if so, is it a frequent thing , or pretty isolated?
@RoamingWithRosie
@RoamingWithRosie Жыл бұрын
Thank you. We have stayed at a few parks with 10 yr rules. They requested photos of the rig. We had to wait a day for an answer, but were approved each time. We did encounter a park near Sedona who had a hard rule. But there were 6 other ones in the area that were happy to take our money. Our preferred camp style is public parks & lands. Usually more spacious and prettier anyway. If you aren't an expert, think about hiring an inspector for a used RV. Happy Travels!

RoamingWithRosie:what"s enough power, torque on a diesel engine like the one on an alfaSeeYa? how much torque for climbing is enough compared to big rigs ?to pull or hauling stuff onboard? what"s the best engine diesel ,transmission for this type of Rig?Cummings or Cat.?Thank You!looking forward to recommendations!!
@RoamingWithRosie
@RoamingWithRosie 3 жыл бұрын
Our Alfa See Ya has a 350 Cat. engine it produces 860 ft lbs of torque at 1440 rpm. It's Unloaded weight is 27,120 lbs the combined gross vehicle weight is 42,000 that includes everything you carry on your rig plus your tow vehicle. A Big rig is designed tow 80,000 lbs total. That includes rig trailer and cargo. Now that's what they are legally allowed to tow. They can tow more than that. A Kenworth T680 with a Paccar 455HP engine produces 1650 lbs of torque at 900 rpm. They are design to one thing move a lot of weight. Cummins vs Cat they are both great engines. We had a 300 Cummins in our first rig and I think it was undersized for the weight of our 36FT rig. It was still a very reliable engine. You should check out some of the online forms regarding the two engines. We have a Allison 3000 MH 6 Speed transmission. I think that Allison makes the best transmissions and they are used with both Cummins and Cat. Our set up with the Cat 350 and Allison 3000 gets the job done. I hope this helps, I encourage you to go on the online forms I learned a lot from there. Thanks for your question and thanks for watching!

It's a 350 Cat diesel with a Allison 3000 6 speed transmission. The radiator is in the rear of the coach. We wanted to stay prior to 2008. That we don't have to deal DEF diesel exhaust fluid. Plus I think the older motorhomes were built better. Thanks for watching!

I have no experience but have read where replacing a regular dual-power RV refrigerator with a residential unit is not the best idea... Residential refrigerators are not well suited for travel, vibration, etc... And you have to run it off the inverter or generator while travelling or boondock camping... Seems kind of whacky to me... Appreciate your thoughts...
