Good morning Sam! Was not expecting a new video at this time of day. Your videos have helped me in rekindling a passing interest in modeling that stemmed from my grandfather, who would take me to train shows or show me the models he had. After he passed, I kind of stopped thinking about modeling for a long time (grief manifested I suppose). Seeing the passion you evoke when you review these beautiful models really stokes a fire within me. Thank you for helping me heal, and for helping to realize how rewarding and wonderful this hobby can be. -Tyler

Hi Sam I think I got to the second chapter before I was on to Hattons to order mine. Now gratefully secured!! Thanks for the heads up on this. A very odd late livery for a pre grouping coach (and I dont have any locos or rolling stock to go with it!! ) but that only gives me an excuse now! Hattons have done an outstanding job on the Genesis coaches overall ,and so much so that I have two sets on order ( LBSC and Midland) and I'm finding it difficult not to order more liveries!
@DouglasParkinson2 жыл бұрын
Those Genesis coaches look very nice :) the blue and grey does look good on them. It would be nice if somebody had a similar product line for N scale. Virtually all non-bogie coaching stock is old, long discontinued models which lack modern finesse.
@TallboyDave2 жыл бұрын
@5:10 my understanding is that on some railways, the centre axle was removed when the coaches were cascaded down to branchline working, and thus ran as long wheelbase four wheel coaches.

I pre-ordered a rake of Hatton’s Genesis, GWR coaches, I waited an enormously long time, only to be eventually told they had more orders than stock, so they cancelled my pre-order on me. I then had to go out and buy the Hornby version, which is excellent by the way. Now I find out, Hatton’s are ordering another batch of these coaches, and they couldn’t even be bothered to let the original, let down customers, know!

The footboards fitted to the coach upon delivery are double versions with both an upper and a lower footboard for use at stations with very low or non exsistant platforms to help passengers climb on board - as was the case in the early days of the railways. The 'spares' in the bag are an alternative version only having the upper footboard as became prototypical when platform heights got higher.

@@stefanattrill8565 The footboards are secured by screws to the under frame. Undo them and the footboards should come away - if they don’t then it could be a bit of stray glue has accidentally stuck it to the under frame. A significant improvement on Hornbys efforts though as you can change them back if your modelling interests change.

I have 3 of the GWR 4 wheelers. They are nice coaches. I also have 4 LBSC 4 wheelers, 7 GNR 6 wheelers, 6 GCR 6 wheelers and 4 Midland 4 wheelers pre ordered. The roof is pretty easy to remove. Just hold the body and pull one end of the roof off and it just pulls loose with little effort. Though one of the axles on my GWR brake third is a little stiff, but I think that should be easily fixed with a touch of oil on the axle bearings.

It is interesting to see on 'today's railway' how prevalent generator coaches are on working trains; in particular the steam and diesel excursion specials and various modern coaching stock movements with diesel traction hauling them. What a surprise this time of day Sam. As an announcement, she certainly looks the part and fine quality for the money, even more so as a limited edition. Everything seems to be spot on. No doubt that this one has been thoroughly tested before sending it to you for the broadcast, but nonetheless it seems to be an excellent value product. They even have the colours exactly correct, and the interior lights are precisely as they should be. Perhaps the roof seems to be a bit bland on camera but some very light DIY weathering may address it perhaps. But for the money, this is excellent. Well done. Oh, and sticky middle sliding wheels usually can be resolved by some silicon spray... just a light touch usually does it.

Absolutely - I had no idea this existed until recently! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@mckendrick40462 жыл бұрын
Good stuff, Sam. Regarding the 'extra' footboards that come with the pack... I'm wondering whether or not they have the cut-out to accomodate the centre sliding wheelset? If not, I would presume the footboard is for use if you choose to remove the centre wheelset in order to run it as a four-wheel coach. Of course this wouldn't be the case with this Blue/Grey 'Generator Coach' but I suspect the inclusion of the extra board is common to all six-wheel models for the sake of expediting packing at the factory. The 'company liveried' coaches in the Genesis series I suspect have the suggested option being run as a four-wheel vehicle for the sake of variation to the trains which users might form from these vehicles. With them being of non-specific design I feel this is an excellent option. well done Hattons... well done Sam!

That generator coach looks great! I'd probably get quite a few Hattons Genesis coaches if I didn't have to pay international shipping rates, as I live in Australia. I have one 6-wheel coach from 'the other manufacturer' currently in transit in order to get a 6-wheel coach, but I'll probably stick with Ratio (Peco) GWR 4 wheel coach kits to build a rake in the future, considering that I've just about finished an LNWR corridor 3rd and I'm really happy with the model, build experience and overall price. Would you consider looking at building a Peco/Ratio coach in the future? It's not a huge range with about a dozen coaches all up, but they make for nice Era 2 carriages, they're accessible from every Peco stockist, and they're not too dissimilar from the skills used to put together the 3D print carriages you made a while back.

hey Sam i have a question. why is their a OO scale and HO scale? i did some research and OO scale uses the same track gauge but makes the model larger. HO is 1:87 and OO is 1:76 but both are on the same 16.5mm rail gauge. so why exactly does OO scale exist? if anything doesn't it inaccurately depict every models wheelbase? i was wondering what you thought since you have so many OO scale models! love the review and look forward to new videos!
@theelectricmonk39092 жыл бұрын
OO scale (as opposed to gauge) exists because the UK generally had smaller locomotives than other countries, and when it came to fitting electrical gear into 1:87 models, it was just too much of a challenge.... so 1:76 was born. I presume the track scale (3.5mm/1ft) was kept for interoperability with HO scale models, although I'm less sure of that one. These days, advanced miniaturisation would mean that if it didn't already exist (and was the most popular UK modeling size), OO gauge wouldn't get a look in, and we'd all be modelling in HO (or N, or O). For those who can't abide the incorrect track size of OO gauge; there is the ScaleFour Society, who accurately model correct track & I believe sell bogies to go under existing 1:76 models.

When you were going over the initial close ups and talking about the paint separation between the blue and grey parts the paint looked a little bit patchy in places. With some grey flecks on the blue (not the line itself). Is this representative of the final model or is it similar to the central wheel and just a little bit pre-production still?
@SamsTrains2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know this is a production sample, so anything you see on here could be typical of the finished product! That said, I didn't notice anything like that in person; the close ups can be very cruel in showing up imperfections! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Do you plan on selling more/ create more in the near future?

That's a question for Hatton's - you can get hold of them via their website. I think they're never saying never! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

A few months ago, I requested you to 3D print some cowcatchers and (temporarily) attach them to your British locos. Are you actually thinking about it? No rush, just want to know if that is going to ever happen. Thanks

Yes I remember! I haven't made any progress on it yet, but I may go for it some day! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)

A time will come when model manufacturers all around the world will have to comply a Sam's Trains Protocol to be officially classified, for the sake of the hobby

Sorry Sam - hard to get excited about this. After having my entire preorder cancelled by Hattons for some of their Genesis GWR and LMS stock - and no more on the horizon. ...My thinking is that maybe they should have made more of them rather than this special... Signed Grumpy and Disappointed Kev

Hi Kev - yes I did hear about that, and it is very disappointing - sorry to hear it mate :( Hopefully they will make more in the future... fingers crossed!

for a moment since i've never seen the actual coach i thought that center wheel was prototypical as some sort of measurement showing or something. It may not be accurate but i think it looks rather interesting... 🤔
