During my lunchbreak , I headed over to the Grapevine Train Depot , where I met Nick .. He works for the city of Grapevine , and was kind enough to let me in the train garage for a look . He says this is the oldest train in the USA that is still in operation ..115 Years Old ( in the video I misunderstood him , and say 150 ) oops ... Wow , this was a great day.. Thank You Nick !!

Sierra Railway Locomotive #3 is not the oldest operating, but she is one of the oldest. She was rebuilt between 1997 and 2010 and received a new boiler, tender cistern (tank that holds water) and new tender frame. However, even though only about half of the locomotive is original from the 1920's, she is still considered one of the oldest in operation. She was built in 1891 by Rogers and is the very last of her kind. She operates now on a semi-regular basis.

Oh, I just remembered, Tourch Lake #3 in Michigan is the oldest continuously operating Steam locomotive in the US, built in 1873. 139 years old!

Actually, B&O's William Mason 4-4-0 was built in the 1850's, and is still operating. And Eureka and Palisade's #4 was also built in 1873 and still operating.

Calumet & Hecla No.3 "Torch Lake" IS the oldest engine that DOES operate on a daily bases-if for only 6 months out of each year. Should there be a difference between 'In good enough condition to run but on display' and 'actually runs, with tonnage regularly'?

The orignal John Bull was fired up by the Smithsonian and would qualify for oldest operating locomotive, except they don't operate it regularly and don't plan to fire it up again anytime soon. I have a video oit (not the replica operating)

There are several locomotives in the US that are older than 2248 that still run. The oldest that comes to mind is the Eureka and Palisades # 4 which was built in 1875. But I believe there are a few even older than that.

it's not that surprising hell it old but most steam locos last for 100 years for to day diesel locos only last for 30 years but I will all ways love steam

Is the narrow gauge locomotive in the background "Rachael"? I think this was the locomotive that was operating at the Doe River Gorge about 10 years ago.

@jkl12397 Operable and operating aren't the same thing sir. Though the William Mason at the B&O Railroad museum has the claim of oldest operating in the states.

116 years now. at the time of this video it was 115 years. 2012-1896=115. not 150. There is a locomotive in Poway, CA that was built in 1907 that still runs. Baldwin 0-4-0 mining gauge. Search "Poway-Midland Railroad" in youtube for it.

Not sure if this is the oldest operating locomotive in the US. The 1875 wood-burning Eureka & Palisade out of Nevada is still operating and is running at the Durango and Silverton railroad in Durango Colorado.

This isn't the oldest operating train in the USA. The UP 844 is the longest operating locomotive in North America. It has NEVER been out of service other than for maintenance. 1944-present. The B&O #25 is the oldest operating locomotive in the USA. Get your facts right.

the inyo is not the oldest operating, the William Mason is, it was biult in 1855, the inyo was made in 1875, therefor is not the oldest operation steam loco in the US.

Appreciate your enthusiasm for the locomotive ["..it's so big!"], but I would encourage you to stand by UPRR #3985 next time it's in steam..it rather dwarfs "Puffy" by several orders or magnitude.. As of July 2012, "Puffy" remains un-repaired, with prospects of her renewed operation quite dim.

Acutually the oldest operating locomotive in the United States to my knowledge is Disneyland Railroad 2-4-4T #3 the Fred Gurley, which was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1894.

YOU ARE ALL WRONG. THE TEST MODEL MASON GEAR #1 BUILD IN 1829 IS THE OLDEST, AND STILL RUNNING. It's in a video of some guy on a farm using it. I've seen it.
