This song is about climate change. My understanding is that she’s sent down to save mankind and upon arrival, immediately falls into a pool of oil. “Hills burn in California, my turn to ignore you, don’t say I didn’t warn you” “Man is such a fool, why are we saving him, poisoning themselves now, begging for our help wow” I think those are some of the more obvious lyrics that highlight the theme.

@jos molen that's what Billie said it's about, and she used biblical language to get her point across. Like if the song’s lyrics were just “save the bears, save the trees” it wouldn't be her kinda art. She notes water rising, fires and such and is putting them blame on humans who beg for help from God when we don't help ourselves. I think it's very smart.

The start climbing out of the oil she does a perfect simulation of what it’s like for birds stuck in oil slicks giving the beginning feel for this being about the environment. The. Following with burning- being from Australia, this part of the song hits home - things burning down around us & people ignoring the lessons Billie is pointing out in this song🤔…one of my faves

Hey guys, loved the reaction, and ya gotta love Billie, grim topics, scary visuals, all sung to a bopping beat, bouncy tune, and her angelic vocals. My opinion is that it takes a few decades of experience to really recognize what a completely unique talent she is. Side note: while her produced videos are great, where she really bears her soul is during live performances. Personal favorites include her BBC performances and her acoustic concert at the Steve Jobs theater.

Love that she writes smart lyrics because it challenges the listener and I'm a writer, so obviously, I'm into that hah but it also feels like she will never dumb something down to make it “accessible,” and I admire that. By doing that she's assuming her audience is intelligent and I love it.

The beginning of this video is a continuation of the scene from Bury A Friend. Billie said that she doesn't know what the lyric "All the good girls go to hell" means, it just sounded cool.

she said it's about climate change and the bad position of people who don't want to do anything about it, but will still beg God to do something about it. that's why it had all the biblical references, while also referencing stuff actually happening because of climate change -- California wildfires, rising oceans
