I live about 3-4 miles east of Oheka castle and been there quite a few times but not inside. Unless you see it in person the grander and size is really not comprehendible. It is massive and absolutely beautiful. Prices for a room are about $400 a night which is what they are in Times Square. I'd say reasonable to stay in a real luxurious castle.

I grew up in a neighboring town in the late 80s and the castle was under repair. I attended the first garden party there in 2000 or 2001 and it was absolutely fantastic. My friends and I were dressed in Gatsby period attire. Years later, I have returned many times to the castle to have lunch or dinner at the restaurant with my family. Gary has always come over and said “welcome to my home and thank you for visiting”. Truly a great man and a great castle that he rescued.

A good friend was married in the library back in 1999 when most of Oheka was a dusty construction site. I took my mother and brother for dinner there Christmas 2019. It was great to see how much improved it was.

I went to the castle for a wedding shortly after that part of the business started. As a guests my partner and I took a suite for the weekend. Wonderfully thrown wedding. The setting was magnificent. Our room had a balcony with that great view. The atmosphere in the hall and opened rooms was magical. As a Long Islander, I am so grateful for Milius’ for giving us back the landmark.

I lived in Huntington Station, a neighboring town, and attended a Designer's Showcase @ Oheka in the 80s. A family friend, Shari Nocks Gladstone, photographed the destruction done to the estate. I've believe that the Long Island Railroad`s Cold Spring Harbor Station was built for Kahn's guests to access his parties, etc. Also Kahn built an exclusive golf course on his estate for Jewish patrons only. I also remember a nursery that raised Poinsettias on the property.

The Otto Khan estate...as it was called by my Grandparents...has been a backdrop in the southern part of my Town for a century. I remember how it looked for years after Eastern Military Academy left. One point left out: when partially restored, Gary sold it to a Japanese businessman for around 22M. Several years later when the bottom fell out of the Japanese markets...he got it back at a fire sale price and poured much of the original profits into continuing it's restoration. My only complaint is that it was approved as a hotel and spa with the understanding there would be no further subdivision, but the corruption of our recent and current Town boards cooked up an "historic overlay" that allows condos to be built on one of it's side lawns; lawns that are needed to properly frame a structure of such a size.

Lived in Westhampton for 15 years. Heard lots about Oheka. But there was never an open house, flower show, musical event, or designer showcase invitation that arrived in my mailbox! I would have loved to have toured it. Third son being married who is looking for a venue near the city, but I can’t make the recommendation. Glad it’s still standing though!

Native New Yorker. I've been to Oheka Castle twice. Once 20 years ago for a winter wedding, and last summer for a tour and lunch at the restaurant on site. It's a wonderful place to visit.

Cheka Castle is a monument to the Past, Present and Future of what this country is made of, the embodiment of ideal and execution as only America offers to anyone who lands on it's shores, or boarders, to build a new life for themselves and their progeny . it is most fitting that while staying at the magnificent property, dress codes of Country Club smart is enforced. The food is wonderful and throughout the year, High Tea, Garden Parties, Cigar events, and community embracing programs welcome locals and visitors alike. truly an inspiration of possibilities, visions and "What if" whispers like the wind through the flora...OHEKA!

Thank God it wasn`t vandalized and destroyed like Whitemarsh Hall, Harbor Hill and so many other immense residences. This one survived.

Oh it WAS vandalized after the military academy left! Virtually everything was ripped out, smashed or spray painted! Another recent success is Lynnewood Hall in PA...a sister to Whitemarsh. Another big estate in severe distress/at risk right now is Belton Court in Rhode Island. And the demolition of Inisfada in North Hills, L.I a decade ago...in PERFECT condition and with major outcry from supporters...is another cultural crime.

My brother went to Military School there. Eastern Military Academy. A lot of troubled young men also got sent there. It was a tuff bunch of kids.

My godfather was on the committee that oversaw the restoration, before they turned it into a hotel. I was able to have a tour of it while it was still being restored. It was very cool.

The detailing of the exterior stone walls is significantly simpler than many earlier mansions. Even after WWI the economy was already changing and making it harder to find the craftsmen at affordable prices. The sculptural ornament is restricted to some key places. Otherwise the walls are smooth without much trim except over the principal entrances, cornice and string courses etc. There is more rendered surface than stone. The dressed stone with no moldings or carved detail is restricted to around window and door openings and corner quoins. The interior detailing is similarly large but spare. Kahn evidently wanted space more than decorative splendor but it works. It's almost modern in that it appreciated that less is more. The faux aged tile roof is actually a little silly. That isn't even how the original chateau would have done it. I know whether Kahn wanted the best impact at the least cost or whether he was reacting to a change in popular taste?

Wow. I can understand peoples hate and jealousy for elites themselves but to take their frustrations out by destroying beautiful things is PURE EVIL. Evil to the core. Evil people HATE anything beautiful to the ears, eyes, or soul. Basically, Marks ists.

At the time Otto Kahn was excluded from established society because of his ancestry which accounted for his desire to build bigger and better. He also made up for this exclusion by inviting Hollywood stars and celebrities to parties in his castle.

True. He was also part of the cabal banking "cartel" that included Loeb, Morgan, Warburg, Schiff and others that controlled the Fed...and us. He played a lesser role... but he was part of that boy's club. Much more will soon be coming out about the above four. Time tends to romanticize things.
