Just must say, I work at a big Las Vegas Strip Hotel and met 2 Australian couples wearing Harley stuff. I asked them if they visited Las Vegas HD which is only about a mile and a half down the road. They told me they just finished a ride out to Utah and around the north rim of the Grand Canyon and had rented Harleys from LV HD. So I asked them if they knew Old Not Dead and big smiles came over their faces and they do know and follow you. We had a nice conversation and I thanked them for choosing my hotel and hope to see them again. We get lots of Australian tourists at my hotel and I always ask them if they know Old Not Dead if they right and tell them to check you out. The only thing different between you down under Harley guys and us is the side of the road you ride on! I think the riding is good for living a good and long life because, you know how it clears the mind. Just you and the machine, no time for the mind wander, focused on the ride.

My doctor told me I would not make it out of my thirties. He is dead, I am still here. If I were to ponder why, I would say hope, joy, and love of neighbor keeps me going strong. Agree with the 5 dangers here. I would add riding beyond your skill levels, not knowing the line to take into corners and relying totally on cagers to look out for you. I've seen plenty of videos of bikers being the first at the scene of an accident (i.e. meeting with a car) and while they had plenty of time to a) find an out to avoid the accident and b) use their skills to brake and swerve instead of their horn they might have been able to avoid meeting this particular car driver by accident. Thanks for bringing to light the issues of mental health caused by loneliness (and the life we had thrown at us in Victoria, in particular). I'm a social person, but I'm not a fan of clubs. I've seen what happens when people all believe they are right because they are the majority...I'm sure you know what I am referring to. But in saying that, I adore the biker community, I just wish more Harley riders would actually wave or nod back when I'm on the road!

So true. Had many accidents, caused by cage drivers, but never while riding a Harley. On the topic of “loneliness” - if most people shit you, isolation can actually be good for your health. Especially if you have underlying health conditions, (which both age and accidents can give you), like high blood pressure etc.

Great video mate....I believe one of the biggest dangers to motorcycle riders is ATTITUDE! Yes you can try to avoid all of the big hunks of mobile metal out there on the roads, but if the rider's head not right.....then they are probably their biggest threat to themselves and others around them! And ATTITUDE also goes for the other road uses too! Anyways....ride safe everyone and enjoy! 😎

Gr8 Video mate, I'm no expert by any means, I grew up riding road reg'd dirt bikes in the mid 70's, playing/sliding/falling off on the dirt, learnt some skills and it tends hurt less rather than falling off on the black top, which I've done both a few times over the years, not always by my own doing either, specially the last one... none have stopped me from getting back on as soon as i was able to either. I love riding. I tell anyone that asks about or wants to get their road bike license to give at lest 6 months to playing on the dirt first... you don't want to be 'learning' the skills on the road with all the nuff-nuts out there as it is... and i don't believe they teach you how to re-act when ya clacker valve has been engaged due to a situation or an event happening in front of or to you eh... Btw I ride to survive and with a small group of mates or alone, My Bike Emma (No.9) is my therapist, It's the only thing that clears my head... today I should have gone out but sometimes with my headspace I'm better off not going, there is always tomorrow or the next day eh... Fix the roads, educate the tintoppers and kids and keep left out there lol

Loved the view about the HOG community. Love or hate. I bought a Pan Am so I could ride with the local Chapter, rather than a KTM or Honda. I have some trauma issues so psychological issues. Each week I get to jump on a ride (own a Road Glide as well now) and travel somewhere new each time with a good group of people. I get to join in where I would normally avoid groups of people. Have a meal or just turn around and ride home. No obligations. I also get to work on upgrades, modifications etc, which plentiful with Harleys. So I create and have an investment in the brand even when I’m not riding. I think if had of gone down another brand adventure bike track I would have not have had the same experience. Hopefully I live longer because of the village!

The #1 danger to motorcycleists is cages, #2 substance abuse, #3 not being familiar with the bike, #4 over confidence, #5 showing off (speed), #6 riding when they are not really are not "part of the bike", when they are really just a passenger on their maching and not in control.

Hey, I just found your channel, and you've got some real good points about riding. And I'd never thought about the camaraderie angle and premature death. Very good point. I've owned a whole bunch of motorcycles, everything from a Harley, to Ducatis, to KTMs (the best one of the bunch), to all the Japanese brands and a BMW. So I've seen the divide between H-D riders and everybody else. I get the whole community thing, but I d onto want to associate with the "Bad-Ass Biker" image that many people seem to be trying to establish. I get along with everybody, no problems there, but on a group ride, I'm not going to blindly do what some guy that calls himself "Road Captain" and tries to bark orders at me. I've been told that I'm "fucking up our formation." Excuse me? Your what? Thats a few of the reasons i ride only a few other guys.
@OldNotDead-Club Жыл бұрын
Many of us feel the same in regard to different groups to ride with.
@BigAl53750 Жыл бұрын
I don’t have a problem with having a Road Captain when riding in a group, I PREFER to ride on my own, or with a mate or two, but EVERY time I go riding with even a small group, I want to get the rules of engagement straight before we set off. I will NOT ride with a group (or even a single rider) where there are no rules about how we’re going to relate to each other in the sense of passing one another, cornering, etc. I avoid things like Toy Runs which attract people who have no idea of road safety when group riding, where it’s every man for himself. I stay far away from any and all riders for whom every ride is an opportunity to show the world how fast they can ride. In the half century I’ve been riding, such people are more dangerous than the average car driver, to riders around them. I have ridden in a group of SIXTY bikes, on a ride through the south eastern corner of Australia, which covered over 2,000 Kms in 14 days. Not one single near miss, let alone an accident. Average distance between bikes was one m’cycle length fore and aft and we rode two abreast. It follows that anyone who can’t, or won’t fit in with the discipline required for such a ride is a pain in the butt and potentially dangerous to himself and others. Now here’s the thing; if you don’t want to do such a ride, that’s fine, don’t, but don’t come around and whinge about how people who DO like going on such rides insist that you have to behave if you want to be part of what they’re doing. Nobody is forcing you to ride with a group, but it’s a given that if you want to do so, the group makes the rules. Any group that doesn’t work out a set of rules for such rides, is one I will avoid like the plague because they’re a disaster waiting to happen and I want no part of that.
