Oldschool Runescape Lore is So Much Deeper Than I Thought

There is something kinda endearing watching The King learn about the lore from a game from our childhood. My autistic ass read all the wiki articles while fishing as a kid.

Guthix is actually a badass. His people were invaded by Saradomin, which attracted the attention of Skargoroth, an evil boar-like god that basically just wanted to wreck shit. Saradomin was younger and was basically on his own form of crusades, trying to spread his religion across the universe. In doing so, he is inadvertently responsible for the deaths of most of the Naragi, the race of Guthix. Skargoroth arrives and Sara dips. Skargoroth then wipes out the remainder of the Naragi including Guthix's wife and daughter. Guthix is pissed and uses an artefact to accidentally siphon Skargoroth's powers, killing Skargoroth and ascending himself to godhood. He saw this more as a curse than a blessing. From there on, Guthix is basically the god of no gods. Balance isn't necessarily about good or evil, it's about letting the natural sequencing of events take place with as little divinity available as possible. This is all interesting because while Saradomin pretends to be about righteousness, he is actually more invested in power than he lets on. Armadyl is ACTUALLY about righteousness, albeit through law and order. Zaros was basically the dictator of the world while Guthix was sleeping. As time went on, he went from being this evil god to being more of an observer, almost shifting his ideals closer to Guthix's alignment. This is why the 2nd age was prosperous. Zamorak was Zaros's main general. He was sickened by Zaros's shifting ideals, claiming he was becoming soft. He hosted a siege for the crown, using the staff of armadyl to greatly damage Zaros and siphon his godhood. Zaros was weakened greatly, not killed. We still don't know where he resides, but we do know that being a direct descendant of an elder god, he's definitely not down and out. Especially given how powerful his followers are. TL;DR- Zaros is actually the coolest god. Sara is a poser, Zammy is a rebellious teenager, Armadyl is law & order and Bandos just wants to hit stuff. Guthix is whiny and rather than directly fight, he chooses to be a pacifist, which in RS3 lore, led to his death.

You got it wrong. Tuska was the boar goddess and Skargaroth was hunting her. They arrived after saradomin due to his crown being a beacon when used to find other elder artifacts.

also funny piece of lore, guthix became the god of balance because of in his homeworld they didnt know what war was until saradomin came along and ravaged his homeworld, then guthix killed some godly mfer and then he learned what war was because of saradomin trying to enslave his race he, created a world of his own where other gods were supposed to fuck off

​​@@TehSoulZeroit was both. Guthix's home world became a battleground of the gods when Saradomin came to find another Elder artifact, attracting other Gods with the energy from the artifact. They came to fight with their armies and Scargaroth, known as the Godhunter or something came with "The Blade of Scargaroth" to kill the gods that were battling. Scargaroth incidentally killed Guthix's child in a weakened state and Guthix finished him off with his own Blade in anger, unintentionally siphoning his power, taking ownership of The Blade and ascending to godhood. That blade was later used to create portals from other worlds to Gielnor when he invited other species to live there

To be honest rs3 lore will be osrs lore they keep bringing things from rs3 to osrs it may get slightly altered but the vast majority of god lore is the same.

Zamorak wasn't banished after he killed Zaros. The demons we mostly see today are avernic demons, which used to be a slave underclass in their home dimension. After killing Zaros, Zamorak invaded and helped the avernic demons kill their oppressors, as a thanks for helping him ascend to godhood. Then he got back and all his shit had been nicked.

We just binge OSRS KZbin content and sometimes that means lore deepdives.

Like, theres that freminik guy that can hit every tick and you cant beat but the tribes are spooked by vorkath and trolls. Mysterious old man is some brilliant warrior but his town gets terrorized by a vampire with like 12 hp.

The big downside to runelite is this right here. Don't get me wrong, I also do it. However, I read every quest line text as a kid just past the EOC update. Was so proud of my quest cape. It felt better than any 99 I had at that time.

HELLO Senior Rick here, ive plyrd this game for nearly over 20 years yes story line is true and started in 02 with fists of guthix minigame, then came the war of the gods this was when kree'arra still had the acb drop making it bis boss back in 07 for all mid-max cb to achieve max bank. then in 2012 jagex sold rights and all the focus was drawn to the wildy and the rs team trying to maintain their monthly members from quitting due to the transformation of how things were going, starting of bots, ddosers, you name it nobody was winning unless cheating back then no ways for making money from low lvls until mid or higher so long stuggle

here is a simple breakdown of god lore: some elder gods made everything, then guthix got mad at some gods for fighting/killing his daughter and he killed them which made him become a god, then guthix found gielinor and invited a bunch of chill races to live there, then he sleep, then other gods found gielinor, they fought over it, at some point in this zamorak killed zaros and became a god, there was more fighting, then guthix woke up and kicked the other gods out bc he's way stronger than them. now here we are.

Guthix is arguably the strongest God that we know of (other than the elder gods). However, we do not know his power relative to Zaros, for Zaros was banished during the time Guthix woke. The only reason Zamorak was able to just barely overpower Zaros was due to the Staff of Armadyl, another elder artifact. Essentially elder artifacts are capable of great power. The edicts of Guthix effectively ended the war: should any god directly interfere with Gielinor, Guthix's followers would awaken him and Guthix will recreate the world. This puts Gielinor in a terribly delicate balance. It is unclear whether these edicts affect Zaros as Guthix has no knowledge of this ancient god. Should Zaros return, we do not know if the edicts apply to him. And if they don't, surely the other gods would not sit idly by and let him dominate Gielinor once more. It's also implied that the Dark Altar (or rather the Dark Crystal that is held by this altar) is another elder artifact (implied by Mod Ed).

By the way, Zaros is canonically stronger than most other gods, because he, like Seren, are children of Mah (an underdeveloped "elder god"). She also made the Mahjarrat (hence their name) but at that point she was far weaker than when she was when she created Zaros and Seren. This is why the Mahjarrat are not gods but are still incredibly powerful beings. Zamorak was a Mahjarrat before he ascended to godhood. It is unclear how other gods originated but at least in RS3 it is through a similar process to Zamorak's- using an elder artifact to either ascend godhood or siphon power from another god.
