Or, consider: With sufficient magical power and artefacts, it is possible to form a *connection* to the gods, like Azzanadra sought to until Sliske decided OSRS didn't need a curses prayer book. Could Xeric have found a way to connect to the Dark Altar in a similar way? I do think it's certainly possible there's a connection. It's always been a bit odd that the Arceeus spellbook is so focused on necromancy, a work we've often seen Mahjarrat strongly capable of, and which has ties to Xau-Tak and shadow magic.
@Avrah4 ай бұрын
i think the dark altar is already inherently linked with the entity of Xau-tak. It is described as "intelligent" and "makes itself useful" because has some kind of motivation to do so. It probably is also in communication of some sort with the elder artifact in the region. we shall find out. lots of new varlamore stuff coming.

He is either the sugar baby of a greater entity, a mahjerrat in disguise or similar(dragonkin, demon, ext) or a old magician who has gotten to big for his britches and is high on the fumes of his own hype. I prefer the last if he gets put in his place but for mystique the second would work better
@brandonwalters43274 ай бұрын
The dark altar is probably a remnant of Zaros' physical body which isn't a stretch since Seren was able to break herself into crystal fragments plus it would explain why Zamorak was so interested in stealing it when it resided on Karamja during the God Wars. Zaros possesses an innate ability to bend beings to his will merely by them being in his presence, so what if King Shayzien VII became obsessed with the dark altar precisely because it is Zaros exerting his influence? Also, I definitely agree the monolith in the Perilous Moons dungeon is the Codex since I'd like to believe the Nagua aren't just coincidentally related to the ancient elements (Blood moon = blood, Blue Moon = ice, Eclipse moon = shadow, Sulfur Nagua = Smoke)...
@Avrah4 ай бұрын
yea actually i had a very similar idea. also why there are all those "ancient shards" in the catacombs.
@stretchymc51264 ай бұрын
something else that kind of aligns with this theory: it is said in Zaros' betrayal that he relinquished his corporeal form to narrowly escape death, in the other game we have to go to Frenneskae and create a divine simulacrum, one of the only things capable of containing all the divine energy of such a powerful god. this kind of helps back up your claim that he is unable to actually inhabit a corporeal form because they would not be able to contain the divine energy

yea i would have mentioned it if I had remembered that moment.

I personally never got tired of the RS3 gods and how they were treated. While yes, they were no longer vague and shadowed beings, they still were playing for their own interests. And had a lot of skeletons in their closet. As for the WG being forced to play mediator and the soap opera points: this is kind of how mythologies of pantheons of gods is. Messy, melodramatic, where petty problems between gods with long memories and even longer grudges can spell massive issues for mortal kind. I suppose it though depends on how one likes their gods in fiction. If one prefers unknowable, shadowy cloaked eldritch deities from the pens of horror writers as opposed to mythologies and old pagan religions scrubbed clean of some of the saucier bits and parts, then the RS3 take on gods perhaps wasn't for them. Never mind the fact it was only possible due to the World Guardian status. Without it, that eldritch element would come in real fast. Restoring the dark allure of the gods in RS3 would be as simple as ending up in the path of an angry, conditionally immortal being without World Guardian protection. Where the only option for survival is to Run escape out of there as all heck is unleashed. How long the patience of petty, untold millennia old schemers and self-interested entities would go on if there was nothing to hamper them from making a move likely isn't much. Especially if that reunion would be something like a very angry Zamorak attempting revenge. With no world guardian powers or edicts there to somewhat even the playing field, it would be a good reminder of just how much these things mattered.

Thanks for the comment! I did enjoy the wrap up to the gods with Extinction. I think it was done quite well. Runescape has two problems imo. Runescape has cultivated an audience that doesn't care much for their storytelling medium aka voice acting and players space barring through quests. Runescape also just doesnt have that cinematic look to it and the models look terrible, especially the player model, when you zoom in for a cutscene. these things hamper the god storyline a lot imo from playing through everything start to finish. I just didn't really feel like blaming players in my video but I do think what players have given feedback to the devs about has shaped the narrative of the game and i hate to say it but, to me, the runescape community feels the least invested in the story out of all other mmos i have played, and i have played a lot.
@videocrowsnest52514 ай бұрын
@@Avrah Yea, the space bar warriors do feel like a very numerous bunch. It's interesting how many view quests more as a task (or worse: a chore) to do for new unlocks over a chance to go on an adventure and engage in new kinds of stories. Ironically, this means a lot of people will then complain about the state of the game, despite doing everything within their power to make it as bland and boring as possible for themselves. A very "I want to have my cake and eat it too" mentality where questioning their own choices and play style in regard to having fun rarely seems to come up. It's always someone else's fault. I kind of feel it's a part of that efficiency mindset, where the downside is people can no longer slow down or stop to smell the virtual roses. They are completely consumed by efficiency based thinking, and are unable to even if they wanted to slow down due to it being so hardwired into the minds of many. Seems to many thus fun is not efficient, and they don't want to have it. Rather, playing the game out of an unhealthy sense of obligation than to go on a virtual adventure of sorts where any choice that could lead to having fun is rejected.

@@videocrowsnest5251 If interconnected lore is a consideration Xeric could be an old school version of Rasiel or be one of his more successful apprentices. The Dark alter is a shoe-in for a soul vessel attuned to Erebus in a twisted version of Rasiel’s soul purification beacon. He was shown to be able to use other beings as a vessel and necromancy is certainly connected to Xeric’s skill set

If you wanna go even further the Arceuus spell book specifically the spell corruption has ties to Zaros through the Secrets of the North quest. Phantom Muspahs magic attack applies corruption and the Muspah is from Jhallan who was dreaming inside the Ghorrock dungeon and had a nightmare transforming into the Muspah.

I want you to look into what Sliske is planning, if he isnt subverting the edicts/planning to ascend what is his intention? why did he sabotage Azzanadra? as Persten he is studying and tracking elder artefacts as well as the abyss as himself in Lassar, and as Ketla he is studying Black Stone and the shadow plane as Kasonde he is studying the Old ones and there Soul Transference ritual and of course as the Assassin he sabotages Azzanadra. (and with our help frees Jhallan from Muspernation) id personally be willing to bet that he has also taken on the identity of a notable citizen of arceuus to learn more of their methods of ascension, but this is just a guess I dont think there's any hard proof of that I think he plans to replicate something like soul transference, to take their souls out of the body of the mahjarrat and put them in a "WORTHY VESSEL". I eagerly await your video on the topic Avrah :)

I'm not certain if Lucien ever ascended or did he just become a stronger Mahjarrat. Zamorak needed to siphon power from a Tier god 2 like Zaros. If Lucien did become a god and still got killed by Dragonkin, that would make the Dragonkin powerful enough to overwhelm gods who rank from Tier 7 to maybe Tier 5. Overall, I love the video but thought I would add to thag point.
@Avrah4 ай бұрын
well i think he just siphoned a bunch of energy from the ritual with both the staff and the stone? so he yoinked a ton of energy from all the mahjarrat? and actually i think its pretty canon that the dragonkin are up there in terms of power. and they are more powerful when the stone is used. they have a link with the stone that makes them go super saiyan when the stone is used due to the curse of jas. as to if he's "actually" a god idk. he seems to think he's a god lol because if you attack him in ROTM he says "you dare attack a god". for whatever that's worth lol.
@darthhideous84 ай бұрын
I think Lucien and really a lot of the Mahjarrat didn't grasp what happened to Zamorak but it could just be ego talking when Lucien says he's a god.

Surely all God's come from the same source, so whilst it may be true that Zaros, is closer to the source in terms of his expression of it, all other gods have that same soul, it is more likely then that Zamorak killed that which cannot be killed, and Zaros knowing this understood that he truly did die, and returned to what he was, so he must then conclude that he is technically a reincarnation... in the most technically accurate use of the word in communication with other beings that communicate... Lol He got Boethiahed.

you'd have to explain what you mean by gods coming from the "same source"
@cabudagavin38964 ай бұрын
@@Avrah Zaros for zero, aka darkness It's hard to say exactly whether the source is zero, one or something in between, but Void knights represent both and worship Guthix god of balance, and the god of Runescape. If you look at void knight gear you can see their sigil is black white and grey. But I do think that representing your divinity as zero has a tendency to take power from others, something about representing your consciousness as zero, source makes you the only one (not sure where I heard that part in regard to Zaros but I have). It's the whole, "why is there something rather than nothing?" Debate. If you know anything about biology you would know that Organisms sit on a thin line between life and death, that it is the intermingling of the two that produces so much complexity. That is why the druids worship Guthix.
