I'm confused regarding which adhesive you used. Did you use Weldwood Contact Adhesive, Weldwood Contact Cement, or Weldwood Landau Top & Trim HHR Solvent Type Spray Contact Adhesive? The Contact Adhesive is only sold in 1 gallon containers and is very expensive ($65.00). The Contact Cement can be purchsed in 1 quart containers, but cannot be adjusted once both sides are touched together so it would be difficult to use. The Weldwood Landau Top & Trim HHR Solvent Type Spray Contact Adhesive seems to allow some re-adjusting which is needed, but I'm not sure on the overall bond strength. Thanks

I took the easier route: I scraped everything off, gave it a rough sanding, then sprayed on about 10 coats of bedliner. Gives it an interesting texture, and it's NOT coming off. Ever.

With the contact cement you used and having done it outside I’m curious if there is a need for temperature difference that needs to be taken into account. That is a 2010 Mustang I think - 5.0 and the kick-up at the rear of the door on the beltline... I have a 2005 GT with the black with red pleather trim, and I did both of my doors. I removed the whole interior panel and brought it in the house. But I used the three men and a teflon. The passenger side came off in probably less than a year, but the driver side seems to be holding up. I will remember the mineral spirits for cleaning them the next time - I simply sent these through the clothes washer with cold water and maybe a little detergent from an orange jug. I'll bet my car was losing its inserts before that car in the video was built!

@Old School Auto Upholstery Techniques Yes, I did see your entire video and paid close attention to removing all the old glue with mineral spirits... However, you did not address my question in regard to the foam backing fabric material which is also glued to the door panel... As I previously brought up, there was also a KZbin video posted by Mongrel Motorsports that removes the fabric backing material by placing a flat-head screwdriver in the upper right corner, lifting up a section of the backing layer fabric by exposing the hard plastic of the door panel... He then begins to peel off the backing layer of fabric which then reveals the hard plastic of the door panel... So my question once again is this... Did you also peel off all the foam backing fabric material from the door panel after removing all the old glue with mineral spirits or did you just remove all the old glue... If you did not remove/peel off the remaining foam backing material fabric after removing all the old glue? I need to know one way or the other just to make certain that we're both on the same page... In the meantime, I also went ahead by attaching a link for the Mongrel Motorsports KZbin video which shows his process for removing/peeling off the second layer of foam backing material from the door panel... Also, keep in mind that I'm not referring to the actual vinyl door panel insert itself, as I already have the vinyl insert removed from the door... kzbin.info/www/bejne/h32up3eGrpyeiq8

Hello RMP, I removed the old vinyl. Stipped off all of the old glue. Glued on the new vinyl, duplicating the original application. It is that simple. Thanks for watching!
@joshuawellwerts2078 Жыл бұрын
How much do you charge to do both panels and what state are you located
@rmp5841 Жыл бұрын
@@joshuawellwerts2078 The installer is located in Texas.... However, just keep in mind that he does NOT remove the felt backing material that is glued to the door panel... Unless the felt backing material is completely removed, it will only be a matter of time before the vinyl panel insert will eventually begin to peel off again when there is no longer enough felt backing material left for the glue to stick to... In other words, it's not the glue that fails, but rather it's felt backing material which is attached to the door panel that fails from degrading.... If you're searching for a permanant solution, you need to remove the felt backing material from the door panel completely and then install a door insert panel replacement manufactured from ABS plastic... That being said, I strongly recommend taking a look at the attached KZbin video link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h32up3eGrpyeiq8

That is what I used and it wont ever come off if you follow the directions-- it is a contact adhesive so ensure the glue has setup properly before you use a handheld roller to smooth it out.
