Pretty sure he’s part of the family now. Decrepify on Reaper's toll is not there only to "slow down monsters" for the most part, but to break physical immunities (it does -50% physical resistance).

Just FYI holy freeze doesn’t apply a freeze, it’s an aura with cold damage that applies a slow. So items like raven frost do not work against it, also that is why cold immunes in hell still get slowed. Just something nice to know

Its a "chill" effect actually, what slows down enemies. There is a type of blood lord in act 5 what has a mod "can nto be chilled" those are not effected by the holy freeze slow effect.

Life leech and higher damage is a huge help, but mine still dies when he gets ganged-up upon or when he tries to go toe-to-toe with Andariel. He currently has an Insight on a Thresher and Tal Rasha's helm, but has crappy armor. Looks like i will be making a Treachery for mine once i get a Lem rune since i already got a 3 socket elite armor on the ready, or a Smoke once i get a two socket elite armor. Hopefully that is enough for him to face Andariel and not die, i currently can't kill Andariel quick enough to save him.

probably a tip most people know but when farming keep an eye out for ethereal weps in nm cows or if you can handle hell cows preferably. Look for 4 sockets or use a socket quest on the best wep you can find (thresher) because of the low cost to use. Pop a ral-tir-tal-sol in that bad boy and you'll be good to go on mana. Lionheart is also another good word for armor which will get your Merc to max res. Even with a blue life leech circlet you'll be good to go for quite some time.

So funny to watch this video while my merc is literally carrying me in most of my Hell farming with Reaper's toll, Andariel's visage and Fortitude in Eth Archon plate. Only some of the enemies can kill him like Council pack with conviction or boss pack of death lords with some cursed fanaticism with extra strong.

tell them about the Prayer mercenary, the synergy of that with Insight and meditation for the 50 to life per 2 seconds at level 18. That is great for casters/energy shield sorceress

I would hardly consider Emilio pointless for cold builds. Several reasons. 1: with his ai the way it is, it's hard to predict when he's going to rush into a pack before you're ready and having him apply his aura to immediately freeze stuff is actually quite useful. 2: found out the hard way that cold immune mobs won't take a chill from my skills, but will take a chill from his aura. As ultimately tested at length against the cold immune mini boss in the final wave on baal. Nothing I did would apply a chill to that guy. Emilio came In clutch and face tanked that bastard turning it into a Smurf for the 10 minutes it took for him to kill it.

the Fade from treachery also decrease the amount of time you are cursed and have 10% physical damage reduction, Under helmets, 2 options not mentions is Vampire Gaze good life leech (up to 8%) and up to 20% physical damage reduction. and the runeword Bulwark, for 5% more life and 4-6% lifeleach. a budget armor like shaftstop is also worth considering for the 30% physical damage reduction.

Treachery + vampire gaze(with cham) are best combo. Fade is insane. So much res, damage reduction, and most importantly the curse reduction. Curses are what kill your merc. No other armor can compete. It even hits a faster hit recovery break point. Then with vamp gaze gives you another 20% damage reduction with 8% life steal. Oh, I should stress, treachery isn't just the 'budget' option, it is BY FAR best in slot. Vamp gaze is best with the life steal+damage reduction. Andariels doesn't give a significant AS breakpoint and it's only 2% life steal for the loss of 20% damage reduction. Thieves is 12% life steal but again, 20% damage reduction is more valuable.

Not sure if you mentioned that ethereal gear is better for mercenary. More damage on weapons, more defense on armour. Sadly the only merc gear i have that's ethereal is Durials shell armor. It has over 1000 defense and is pretty good but i usually go with Treachery

If youre having trouble finding life leech helms for the ole mercenary. Gamble circlets. They are cheap at lvl 25 or so and have good mods with them. Easiest way to get some life leech for the merc.

I'm using upgraded ethereal guardian angel armor and kiras guardian helm. Nice boost to max resistances especially when farming travincal. I'm surprised you didn't mention that ethereal version of any item is always better for merc because they don't spend any durability.

Damage, life leech, DR, resistance, attack speed and defence are the important factors of keeping your merc alive. You get a CA insight/infinity with treachery and andy helm with might aura. Boom indestructable merc more or less

The most important part when choosing your A2 merc is the name. Take your pick of Might or Holy Freeze and join new games until there's an Emilio with your preferred aura.

There is a very interesting option missing there to equip to your merc: Delirium! A Delirium helmet will cast curses all the time which protects your main character and your mercenary from monsters’ attacks! Very efficient on a Hammer 🔨

You can ‘bug’ your merc for extra survivability. In the outer cloister get your merc stuck on the other side of a door and run to the other side of the map. Wait until he tele’s to you. Physical attack monster will skip him essentially. He can still get hit by AoE and projectiles. Save some dough

IMO the most important thing is just levels. You can have the best stuff on your merc but if you are going into hell at lvl 60 he is going to get jacked up! Once he is lvl 70-75 he can hang pretty good even on budget gear.

hey, just a quick question... this is driving me batty and I've looked extensively online to no avail... do poison and elemental charms only add to physical hit damage, or do they apply to spell damage as well? eg. poison necro with nova, do poison charms add to that damage or only poison dagger skill because it's a physical skill? there's so much info out there but I still hvnt found a straight answer on this... thx for the vids man, I absolutely love ur channel!!

Only to physical attacks. The dmg isn't added to anything that's considered elemental magic. Would be broken as hell if a pali could add all of those buffs to hammers.

Just a small note on the side. The prayer aura synergizes with the meditation aura from an insight which makes both stronger. Also, a merc from a2 normal has slightly higher stats than a merc from a2 hell (but they have the same auras). Not by a lot but still. I checked it with a mate and his lvl85 hell merc had lower hp, str, dex, and even base dmg than my lvl81 normal merc.

The reason is that your merc gained stats by leveling, when you buy them at level 80 in hell those stats are missing.

I was quite impressed by my merc survivability as I progressed through my first hell run a summoner necro. And then Act 5 came, with some very weird creatures in it. And suddenly the merc just goes down in a matter of seconds. Most frustrating experience so far.

If I'm not mistaken, you can only upgrade uniques. No bases, rares, sets... So you have to trade or farm hell.

I used to roll with Emilio, but now I gave haseem a chance and booi he is surviving good with prayer and insight. I didnt know that because he got prayer, it synergize with meditation. Did you know that defiance aura gives %dmg taken reduced compared to half the lvl of defiance aura ?

"Infinity breaks the immunity of almost all monsters". Yeah this pretty much only goes for lightning immunities. You can also at times not even break lightning immunity when you run into a lightning immune unique. In said circumstance its not even possible with level 25 conviction on a Paladin to break it.

Which would you rate higher, Insight or Bonehew? My merc now has an Insight polearm but a Bonehew just dropped for me.

Few factors to look at: If you're a caster, what sort of insight do you have? Cryptic Axe or Eth partizan at least? If so, Insight because mana regen is literally what keeps you going. If it's something base then if it's eth, bonehew for raw damage.

@@ProjectDevilEye , yes its not a very powerful Insight I have atm, but generally popping mana pots myself hasnt been a big challenge so I will try out the Bonehew a bit, but certainly the mana regen of the Insight surely makes things easier while just taking out normal mobs although at times he does die in Hell on some elite packs. @@64jcl Try to run nightmare meph for a lifesteal head, you can get crown of thieves, Vgaze, stealskull, tal's mask, undead crown or wormskull to drop off nightmare meph with little risk to you, the investment into finding any of those above will help more than you think.

I just went up against Diablo on normal first time and got crushed by his shock attack lol. Level 28 pally holy fire build with really only fire resist

That shock attack will kill most people and mercs. When he uses this, I recommend walking away from him and zig zag to have him miss. gL

get ancients pledge (3 open socket shield, Ral+Ort+Tal) gives around 48% resist in most all resistances, its a good shield for normal. and stock up on Full rejuvenations pots (3 rejuvs combined through cube, instant full health and mana pots). You only need like 3 of them for Diablo, but make 6 just in case. You can make 1 partial rejuv by combining 3 of any health and mana pots and a chipped gem of any kind in the cube so just buy the cheapest pots (minor).

I'm still so poor my merc is wearing a 2% LL blood helm, Insight and some random rare armor. The 2% is better than nothing but not much. I might make a blood armor too until I can find a good helm. They aren't too expensive so its pretty easy to make a couple.

I just wanted to point out that the act 2 merc has 100 more heath and defense than act 5 and 200 more health and defense than act 3. Not sure how much more drastic these stats change in nightmare and hell but yeah...the act 5 merc is not "tanky" but the act 3 merc stays in the backline, runs away and spams casts especially with a circlet and steath for 55% cast rate items on. Sadly he does pathetic damage even tho the lightning looks so cool, barly kills 1-2 enemies at the start of nightmare while i slaughter a horde.

Is the Aura activated automatically? Or do you need to put specific gear on for it to be activated??

no. the merc auras are always active regardless of what the merc wears, they are active passive auras. Sometimes the merc just needs to be engaged in combat for him to activate it.
