We used to have Grandy's, but the dad retired and the son closed Grandy's and changed the menu to quick convenience food, frozen pizzas, chicken nuggets etc. The son made the wrong decision his restaurant closed within 3 years. We're still missing Grandy's.

Yes, they had the BEST Cinnamon rolls back in the 80s they were huge! They all had an elderly woman as the greeter as customers walked through the door.

Honestly, none of these places are going to be good anymore because all the food is cheap and processed today. I am from the Louisiana Caddo Parish area, and we had 2 or 3 locations. Back then, they made their rolls, mash potatoes, and biscuits from scratch. You had to have baking and cooking experience before they even hired you as kitchen staff. The Cinnamon rolls and rolls were prepped at 4 am for a rise to perfection by opening time at 6 am. Their catfish hush puppies and fried chicken were some of the best in the area, and so was their coleslaw. I had no idea that Grandy's still existed.

Grandy was the place to go in Illinois. They are mo longer there. Their cinnamon rolls were outstanding. I'm glad they are still around somewhere.😊❤

Up in the daytime I went to the Grandy’s in Tyler, Texas last week. I could not believe how bad the food and service was. They had very little chicken. I got the fish that was rubbery. Same restaurant has been there for decades. I don’t know what happened! It was bad. I will not be returning.

Chef Jeffery, I have noticed that since COVID, the quality and service at most restaurants has deteriorated greatly. Lots of places are using unqualified people to prepare and serve their food along with huge price increases. So sad to see. Not much enjoyment eating out any more.

I grew up with Grandy's in Brunswick, Georgia. Still there and still good. Chicken, catfish, rolls, cinnamon rolls, and breakfast all good. I didn’t realize they were anywhere other than Georgia. I still check them out whenever i visit home.

We used to have Grandy's many years ago here in Tulsa, Oklahoma...but they closed them all down. We used to eat there frequently. I didn't realize there were any Grandy's still in business anywhere. Talk about blast from the past.

I've gone to that Grandy's quite often and the description of that chicken is spot on. The chicken at that location is so hard and over-fried, and it's sad because Grandy's used to have some of the best chicken. Some items I would recommend is their pot roast, macaroni, and cinnamon rolls. They have improved those recipes over the years and they're actually pretty good 👍🏾.

Restaurant quality across the board has taken a sharp decline yet prices are raising everywhere. I'm eating at home more and more which is good, but it's a shame that if you want to eat out every once in a while, you'll have to spend all this money on a meal you probably won't even enjoy.

As you said franchise. They probably cooked the chicken at 6:00 to last till closing time, so they can send the cook home. I always went to Grandy's for the breakfast bar in the morning, or the country fried steak, which they can cook fresh and have none left over at the end of the night .

The quality of the food at a lot of restaurants and other food establishments has further declined since the pandemic. To quality these days you have to make it yourself or monitor the ratings online. Grandy’s was really good back in the day. Thanks for the update on them.

The meal looks delicious. I like the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I would have had collards or kale instead of corn. Two (2) carbohydrates together is not good (corn and mashed potatoes). Also, good food is difficult to find these days. Much food of the old days is much more authentic and tasty.🙂

I live in Tulsa, Ok. and the Grandy's locations closed up years ago. Visited Oklahoma City several years ago and there was a Grandy's still in operation there and it was great! I really miss the franchise. It was my favorite back then.

Hi Chef, you are a good person. I would have asked for my money back and let them know the food was horrible and the gravy was scorched/ burnt. They should had fresh food cooked being that it was only around 7 pm and closing time is at 10 pm. It sounds like they gave you leftover and they saw that there wasn't many people in there or coming and they didn't want to cook no more food. I am sorry you didn't enjoyed your meal. Church's chicken has been the most consistent lately, but that's at lunch time, later in the afternoon, it gets dried out under the heat lamps. That Grandy's chicken was probably sitting around like that too. I would have had to take a drink in between each bite, to keep from choking on it. The only thing you had that looked good was the roll -- & I hope it was. #stopwishingstartdoing

As a kid n late 90s we always went to granny’s for the breakfast buffet on Sunday mornings.. back when the food was hot and fresh.. I recently had granny for dinner last year and threw it all away within two minutes. Just not what it use to be back in the day.

Grandy's restaurant, the name is the same but the food quality is not. It used to be a great place to go for some fried chicken and mashed potatoes. But today I cannot say the same.

Hate you had a bad experience. Restaurants want use to eat with our eyes by posting pictures of beautiful perfect foods. It doesn’t work that way 99 percent of the time prices are high enough to keep quality of food to closing. I can see not having a full menu later in service. But what is there should be prepared correctly and not dry They don’t want a loss but we deserve what we are paying for. Quality. Thank you Chef for being a honest man❤❤❤❤

I’ve had the same experiences with restaurants and bad food. I went to a Cajun/creole restaurant that’s very popular and had some of the best food around. We went there about a week ago and the food was cold and underwhelming. I was really disappointed and probably won’t be back there. We weren’t near closing time either, as a hospitality person most my life, I know not to go at closing time.

I use to love Grandy's, when we had one in Waco and I often wondered if they were still around, in other areas of the country!!! I was surprised to find out that there were locations in the North Texas area. I don't know, if I should be happy about that discovery now. The review was awful!!!😂 I have been "out of the loop" for awhile. Did we ever get a final ranking for the best chicken fried steak restaurant, sir?!?
