He had an interview and got the question about Lars being a good drummer... his answer was... "Lars wrote it, play it, and the rest is history... you can like it, or say he don't play, but he did it like nobody else in his time... and keeps shinning thru the years". RESPECT TO EL ESTEPARIO

Thats the reason most great "metal" drummers (Benante, Portnoy, Lombardo, Bordin) stand up for and defend Lars, basically cause the guy WROTE and ARRANGED songs that defined an entire generation and kind of cerated a genre, Masterpieces that 35 yeras laters remain relevants (Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All) and was driven enough to carry a band (for better or worse) that is currently one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

TRUE 100%. All the drum play at the time this album was released, was unlike other metal bands, and the rest is history is absolutely legit.

I understand why people feel the need to hate on Estepario, but the fact remains that he has unlocked a level of skill that musicians in general can only dream about. He is changing the perception of what can really be achieved on drums, which is something conventional musicians in the age of digital programming have sorely needed for decades.

I’ve love Metallica since 1986, and I also love this. Those of us who are drummers understand what drumming really is. It’s about expressing yourself and finding your own unique style, and applying that to everything you play. People can call him flashy, and over the top, but this is his style of drumming. If he played this exactly like Lars, then it wouldn’t be his own unique cover of the song. Also, people watch him expecting God level drumming. I’m glad he didn’t disappoint.
@victorrobles2929 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I feel like he covered Battery the way it was supposed to be played. His drum cover completely matches the energy from the guitars.
@darvoid66 Жыл бұрын
That is exactly my contention.

That's why he ruined it in my opinion. The drummer is not supposed to follow the guitars by and large, but they are supposed to follow the bass.

It's good, but it's overplayed in parts. I like the original much better. That's just my opinion. When Lars would play, he would play with the guitars? He wouldn't follow the bass. The man is a phenomenal drummer. But if you overplay the song or any song, it just doesn't sound like the original and that can become a problem where it is not needed. Sometime less is more.

Lars is a self taught drummer who does things in a very unique way.....he is not a cookie cut drummer that the music world is full of. You want to hear what Metallica sounds like with Dave Lambardo & Joey Jorgenson two of the best & fastest drummers ever, they both take turns live in concert for Lars because of a medical emergency Lars had in a South American country. It is on KZbin people can see it and they will see & hear that even though two great drummers play with Metallica live in concert it just doesn't sound right without Lars on the kit.
