Thanks for posting. Sometimes these shows gets their facts wrong. 68 Hurst Olds had 390 hp I thought I read according to the literature of the day instead of 370hp like they rated the 70. The picture at .58 is a blue 70-72 engine instead of a red 68- 69 455. 68 Hurst Olds was the Toronado engine with a 286 cam for automatic trans. 70 W-34 Toronados were rated at 400hp. But at least they are doing shows on these cars. Great videos youve uploaded. Ive enjoyed them.

Shame they didn't mention the Ram Rod/W31 and Rallye 350 too.

@vistacruiser67 Thanks, you've got one of the best vid collections, and yours are home made. You know your Olds facts as good or better than I know PMD. These shows are good but usually get a couple of items slightly off. I went to the NHRA site, according to 68 69 70 blue prints from Olds the top engine in this body style was 390-1968, 380-1969, 370-1970. Weird, I don't ever remember a 380?? Toro top engines were the 400hp 68-70.

@vistacruiser67 That 390hp was a beast, a top magazine of the day tested one at like 12.87 at around I think 110mph, the quickest GTO w/out tinkering was around low 13s and rated at 370hp. . Do you know how the 400hp Toro got it's extra 10hp over the 390hp motor?? Or was it just on paper?? I wouldn't think a Toro would have a hotter cam, or exhaust, or heads over that Hurst. But who knows, i know Toro heads are generally the best over many years, and highly desired.

I think they said something about the 400hp Toro having larger diameter lifters to handle more cam.

The 442s seemed to handle ride stop and corner better than the rest of the GMmedium sized muscle cars. I've seen big numbers claimed for these cars and perhaps they are true IDK. What I do know is in 1973 a couple of motor mouths came into Bob's Big Boy on Van Nuys Blvd in Van Nuys claiming they had a 701 442 that would run in the high 12s. They were looking for a money race. At thst time zi had ax19y7 Corvette with an LS 6 short block under the original heads mamifolding and 3 2 bnl Holly's. Money was put up and we proceeded to the sidesteps just to the east of zbush Gardens in Sepulveda. I think it was Armenia but I don't remember. The Olds was running a big rear end probably in the 3.9 or 4.11 v I Vinita. And he hole shot me by a couple of car lengths. About halfway thru the quarter I passed him and pulled him by about 2 car lengths on the big end. My car which I would not powershift or sidestep the clutch on becsuse of thr 10 bolt rear and half shafts would run right on top ofc13 sec flat I clearly had more hp and the lighter car. That was the fastest 44w I ever ran. Most seemed to be 14 sec cars as delivered. I never ran into one that had headers n Bigger cam etc. The owners were just not into mods generally as with Chevelles .

Maybe Im getting the 390 hp mixed up with the gear ratio for the 68 Hurst Olds.

No you were correct, the 68' 455 Hurst Olds was rated at 390. Ironically, the 70' 455 w30 was underrated pretty significantly, as one of the car magazines at the time had Dynoed it at over 400 horsepower.
