It's been a long time since I rock and rolled
It's been a long time since I did the Stroll
Oh let me get it back let me get it back
Let me get it back baby where I come from
It's been a long time been a long time
Been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely time
Yes it has
It's been a long time since the book of love
I can't count the tears of a life with no love
Carry me back carry me back
Carry me back, baby, where I come from
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Seems so long since we walked in the moonlight
Making vows that just can't work right
Open your arms, opens your arms
Open your arms, baby, let my love come running in
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time

Led Zeppelin is the only band of that era or before that actually 'still sounds modern' because they were so far ahead of their time. Except for one minor detail: Plant should NEVER have opened with it live. Not if he wasn't going to warm up and set his voice first anyway. This is one of his better sounding vocals from the '73 era (although likely VERY cleaned up by Page before release)... if you listen to any of the bootlegs from '73 and '75 as well as live aid '85, he's always clearly not warmed up and ready for it. Any of the shows in which he did it much later in the set (or even as an encore), MUCH better voice. That's any of the '71 and '72 shows, '77, '79, '80, Knebworth '90, solo '94, Page/Plant '95-'98, and even the handful from '01-'02 era I believe. By the '02 and after, starting in '14 I believe, he lowers the key of the music, but still MUCH better voice.
@rap2xtrooper878
@rap2xtrooper878 10 ай бұрын
@@brentwerley6762 Yep, this song (and many other songs in this live album/movie) feature overdubs. One particularly noticeable overdub is this version of Rock and Roll's opening line - "It's been a long time since...". This line is a studio overdub featured in the original 1976 concert movie, and you can tell because you can actually hear the real live vocals of this line in the original 1976 live album movie soundtrack. Why the TSRTS movie and its soundtrack had different versions of songs will forever be a perplexing mystery. Interestingly, the 2008 live album remaster actually uses the stronger overdubbed vocals from the 1976 movie as opposed to the real but weaker 1976 live album vocals. To be honest, I don't mind the overdubs - they do improve the songs that feature them, instead it's the cuts they made in songs to make them fit in the movie that annoy me. And yes, I agree that Rock and Roll was not an easy set opener for Plant. The Song Remains The Same (the song) was a far better opener for Plant (not for Page though - it's a really hard guitar song) but at the same time I never really liked it being used as an opener because that would mean that there would be no Rain Song later in the set or at the very most, it wouldn't be connected to TSRTS as it always should have been.

@Icecube095
@Icecube095 10 ай бұрын
@@_kurohana That's because the analog film also doesn't have real pixels, but rather film grain and by the early 70s the color film technology was already more than 30 years old so the quality was already there. This looks also to be shot on either 16mm (super 16) or 35mm (aka your regular photo film, which is also used for motion picture) film, which is much better than the super 8 (8mm film). Analog has also made quite a little renaissance in the recent years and even bigger movies like Oppenheimer were at least partially shot on analog film. What's even crazier is, that there is still research and development behind analog film making them even better than 10 years ago!

Do young people today understand the sheer magnitude of Zeppelin? We have to remember that they were the first of a kind. The USA had just recovered from the first British Invasion (mainly The Beatles and The Rolling Stones) and then they were hit by this sonic bulldozer. No one had seen a rock band like this before. Also remember that Zeppelin had a mystique. These days we know every single detail about a band and its members and we overdose on video footage. Back then it was totally different. Zeppelin weren't shown on tv and they didn't even release singles. People had no access to videos or the internet, all they saw were photos in magazines and they listened to the albums. Add to that the symbolism and their tampering with magik (not magic) and you have a very powerful and intoxicating force.

I’m 19, and was shown the music of the past at the restaurant I worked at in Houston. We would only spun vinyl. I was fortunate enough to work behind the bar and actually have these vinyls in my hands. And choose what to play. I knew of zeppelin but was not deep into it at all. And my coworker picked Led Zeppelin 1. And my ears were immediately caught. Been listening to them for not even a year but sat and actually listened to each piece of work. My favorites is lemon song. I hope you are doing well. Salutation and cheers I’m happy we are able to experience this amazing work at the same frequency.

They were by far the greatest live band in the world for a 3-year stretch from 1970 to 1972 (See: Royal Albert Hall 1970, MSG 1970, Belfast 1971, Osaka 1971, L.A. Forum 1972). After that it was all downhill. Robert lost his voice in 1973 from smoking and singing too much without resting, but the rest of the band were still playing great. The concert(s) in this video (MSG 1973) have the band in their absolute peak as an instrumental trio. Didn't stay that way for long - In 1975, Jimmy broke his ring finger and never fully regained his touch while Robert caught the flu. It didn't help that the band still continued on with these injuries and sicknesses without rescheduling their 1975 U.S. Tour, just listen to their Indianapolis concert that year and it SHOWS that the band was in no state to be performing. The 1977 concerts featured a Plant who had almost fully recovered his singing voice. He couldn't do his siren wails from 1970 anymore, but he didn't have to worry about voice cracks and sore throats anymore. It also had Bonham at his absolute peak as a drummer. Unfortunately, it also featured a Page in the depths of a severe heroin addiction (one of the band's concerts that year had to be paused temporarily because Jimmy had literally lost so much weight that his clothes were starting to slip off onstage). It's a wonder that Jimmy could even wear a guitar at that point, especially for 3 whole hours at each concert. 1979 only had 4 concerts, and miraculously 3 of them were good. Both of the band's 1979 Copenhagen shows were great and the band's first performance at Knebworth that year was excellent, but the band's last performance in Knebworth was horrible. Legend has it that the band spent the entire day prior partying with the Rolling Stones and came onstage the next day drunk and high without any sleep. The band's 1980 concerts could barely be even considered as Led Zeppelin concerts - they changed the setlist and cut out a lot of the band's iconic songs. On top of that, Bonham regressed massively from 1977 due to his alcohol abuse and they actually had to cancel one show because Bonham legit passed out from drinking too much. Couple that with Page's addiction and you have a band that sounded more like a bunch of middle-aged men doing a bad Zeppelin tribute band than actual Zeppelin.

Then went out and bought a replacement. My love for the band grew and grew as I acquired deeper understanding of their music as time went on. Endless fan. Feel so fortunate to have a household filled with eclectic music growing up - which included Led Zepp (thank you Mom and Dad).
