Antix gets a big thumbs up from me as an Arch-user. I think that many distros can learn something from Antix: teaching the users commands in that way and getting them comfortable with the terminal is a great move.

Currently have AntiX running on a 10 year old laptop, after MX kept crashing on it. So far so good. Admittedly, MX is more pleasing to look at, but my experience with AntiX is a lot smoother. Also, a lovely, proper review of an OS with no mention of interpreting politics from version names. Very nice.

I fiddled a bit with antiX a couple of years ago as an option to put on my wifes old laptop and thought it was pretty good until I ran into setting up her wifi which required a cli tool to connect and knew that wouldn't fly with someone like her if she had to set up a new connection. I was a little surprised to see that in a distro that seemed otherwise fairly new user friendly given what it is. Ended up with their sister distro MX and she's been pretty happy with it.

The "fuller flavour" versions of antiX 19 used the Conman (GUI) application to configure LAN connectivity. I think the CLI app, Ceni is lighter and faster, but that's just my personal preference. Your decision to move to MX Linux is one I made from MX 15 to date. 👍

Hi OTB, Hope your dreaded lurgy passes soon. I thought that I would recommend that you take a look at the SpaceFM options. Most of the WMs tend to default to Rox (which I know well from Puppy) but you also have the option of running the more fully featured SpaceFM, a derivative of PCManFM, with your WM of choice. I find the ability to run several apps as tabs in a single window (using space-fluxbox) on the 7" screen of my eeepc very handy. I am currently playing with the space-ice combo on the new runit version of AntiX on a larger machine. The ability to change file & window managers from the menu in a live USB system is a tinkerer's delight! ;-)

I've got a several years old Asus C100P Chromebook that I'm looking for a reasonable Linux solution for. I'm actually leaning towards Antix now after watching this video. I was leaning towards Puppy - and I will probably try both from a Live run for a while - but both are rather light weight and can easily fit into the 2GB of RAM I think this thing has. The main concerns I have with either, of course, are the drivers. Drivers, especially with a system with specialty features like touch and "flip" (ie, tablet mode" exclusively) are always a sticky bit for Linux, even more so on these tiny, minimalist distros. But, we'll see what happens. Thanks for the upload, even though I'm finding out about it almost a year later! I'm subbing, BTW.
@redfonzie212 жыл бұрын
I'll have to see if Antix is ARM compatible because I didn't realize that this Chromebook is not x86 based. Oops. I forgot to dig deeper ahead of time! Cheers!

It's a good distro, even faster than Lubuntu off the flash drive, I guess the only downside is that the MENU is a mess and expect to spend time to find some things. When Lubuntu 32 bit fades away in April 2021, if this distro is still 32 bit, it will probably inherit it's place.

I recently decided to install either Devuan, MX, AntiX or FreeBSD (all systemd free) on my desktop which had Debian 10. Wasn't easy to decide because I like all of them but eventually I chose Devuan. However, I'm thinking in installing AntiX on my old laptop which only supports 2GB RAM max. I recommend AntiX for: - having a huge repository - uses debian packages; - still active and is about 20 years old so good chances of being around for long; - highly configured for old PCs; - it doesn't use systemd so it offers a freedom of choice since most major distros use it. I don't recommend AntiX for: - beginners in Linux - Linux MX offers better experience and it's still light on resources Curiosity: Linux MX (#1 on Distrowatch) was created as a cooperation between former MEPIS Linux communities and antiX.

Great minds follow the same channels, OTB. I just installed AntiX on a couple of spare partitions, fired up Firefox, went to KZbin, and there was a notification for this video! I used it some a few years ago and decided to come back for another look. Hi I found installing antiX a tad testing to say the least ... the distro would install fine until 95% and freeze up on the grub install at the end ...tried several times ... just the same .. so I did abit of forum swatting and research ...I saw a snippet from a user to use keyboard symbols often in the registration password/ root insertions rather than letters upper or lower case ... mmm ..so I did Eureka ... it accepted the installation ..I found the solution of grub repair mods as suggested by antiX programmers confusing . This particular problem raises its ugly head also I see in MX ( big brother ) installations...so GRUB problems bear in mind. It is fine now rinning on old Compaq N610 Evo , Pent 4, enhanced RAM 750 + , Samsung 100 gb hdrive .. a very well presented and descriptive tutorial ... great
