"Table by the Window" is a compelling part of "Separate Tables," a duo of one-act plays by Terence Rattigan set in post-war Britain. The story unfolds in the Beauregard Private Hotel in Bournemouth, England, portraying a society in turmoil beneath a facade of respectability. In "Table by the Window," the focus is on the broken relationship between disgraced Labour politician John Malcolm and his ex-wife Anne Shankland. John, played by Shaun Dooley, is a fallen figure who has turned to alcohol. Anne, portrayed by Naomi Frederick, arrives from London, stirring up the painful past. Their shared history is marred by John's previous imprisonment for assaulting Anne. Miss Cooper, the hotel's manager and John's current mistress, played by Nathalie Armin, finds herself in the midst of this tumultuous reunion. Despite her personal relationship with John, Miss Cooper assists in paving the way for a tentative reconciliation between him and Anne. The secondary characters, including the elderly and resistant Mrs. Railton-Bell played by Susan Brown, and her daughter Sibyl, capture the generational clash and personal turmoils of the hotel's residents. These characters add depth to the portrait of post-war societal struggles and individual plights. Rattigan masterfully explores themes of repression, desire, and the quest for dignity against a backdrop of social polemics. The drama, directed by Anne Isger, deeply resonates as a narrative about facing one's past, confronting raw emotions, and seeking solace.

I liked the World's Worst Waitress at the beginning. The drama is very much just about the main characters' relation to each other though, and they would benefit from getting over themselves a bit!
