These are amazing. Randomly came across them as I was decorating here in UK London. Love the way it builds a strong picture of the main characters.

I first saw rather than heard this episode on Gunsmoke , the TV series. It was one of the half hour shows from the 50s and for me it was a very, powerful, realistic and moving story. One of the best episodes in Gunsmoke’s 25 year run. It was based on an actual incident in the life of James Butler “Wild Bill” Hickok.

John Dehner is in more of these than Kitty and Doc combined. LOL

Howard McNear played Doc on this radio show. He went on to play Floyd the barber on the Andy Griffith show. Parley Baer played Chester on this radio show, and went on to play the mayor on the Andy Griffith show. Matt Dillon on the radio show was played by William Conrad, who later played the main character on Jake and the Fat Man. Small world.

Is it just me or does this episode imply Chester had been visiting a "lady of the evening" in a saloon? :o

My first thought was that he was with a married woman, which is why he had to bail out of the window.

Wiliam Conrad is fantastic in this episode and James Arness virtually matched him in the TV episode. This another where John Dehner picks up an extra paycheck for two roles. He's Matlock and he's also the second saloon owner who gets shut down by Matt - after matt killed the other Dehner character.

Matt never knocked his gun except 2 times this one and one more in the black and white TV version called matt dillion

@guyhadsell39762 жыл бұрын
@@cesalie777 ‘notched’. Gunfighters would put a notch on the handle of their gun for everyone they killed.

I love this episode but it sounds like this episode has a twist to it mats friend said that if anybody does anything he’ll be sure to do something if they try to shoot him in the back and his partner was right behind them when he got shot so I wonder if maybe Matlock was trying to shoot Matt

Gunsmoke radio episodes evoke a gentler less stressful era in America, the 1940s to 60s. A nice respite from todays fast hectic pace. Very much appreciated!

Is it just me or diid the voices seem sped up ?

I think you are right. Sped up and higher pitched. Perhaps they needed to shorten the episode by maybe a minute.

Basically Dillon screwed up and took it out on everyone he came across after that..... character flaw
@pdogcentra86483 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he screwed up his partner who was creeping up behind Dillon unannounced on the wrong side of the street did
