One of the happiest years of my young life in Toronto. I recognize almost all of these locations. Nice shot of Jane Jacobs at Buthurst St. station, my gateway to Markham Street which has now been erased from the city's memory.

My family came to Toronto in 1971. I was so little but grew up in the 70s, so many memories of that simpler time!

Thanks very much for video of my hometown, Toronto!❤ I lived there from 1966 to 2005, and was 10 in 1971. The sights, cars, and the girls 💓 Shared on Facebook with public Ps I wish the motorcycle sound could be edited out, takes away from my enjoyment of video

I didn't realize that in its early days, GO Transit could pick people up at their door (certain locations?).

Hard to imagine that most of these people would be 80 years old or more now. Many are probably dead and gone. Soemday people will be watching vidoe from 2025 and thinking the same.

I really enjoyed this footage. It's fascinating to see those streets as they were in the 1970s. I wasn’t born yet in 1971, and my parents weren’t even in Toronto at the time. It’s understandable that traffic was much lighter back then compared to today. What struck me most is how much new infrastructure we’ve built over the past 50 years (IMHO, not enough), especially given that the population has more than doubled if not more.

Jane Jacobs was my regular bank customer back in the late 80s early 90s. She and her husband were nice folks. And on another note, this clip shows how slim people were compared to now. Where did we go wrong?!? So many today look like they should be in a Dove ad. Not healthy at all.

Ok. How many have you recognized the great Jane Jacobs!!?? A great lady who tried to protect Toronto from all the goddam condominiums and greed. She was an author and activist, highly knowledgeable about urban studies.

Today I learned that you could lease a clour t.v for 19.99 a month in 1971. I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not but I can guarantee that television weighed at least 100 pounds. 0:26

Wow, no one protesting foreign problems, nobody using the sidewalk as an outdoor lavatory, no homeless encampments, no drug addict screaming in the middle of the road. Place has gone so far downhill it needs to be studied as an example of what not to do.

You're aware 71 in Toronto was full of protests and chaos? Vietnam, civil rights, etc. Of all the years to choose - 71 was wild.
