I saw Ole make his debut for Newcastle Diamonds on a wet Monday night at Brough Park against Cradley Heath. Ole scored four second places, and just got better and better.

The architect of world grand prix speedway. The sport owes him some much.

Ole Olson came to Australia in the summer and rode mostly at Liverpool speedway and the Sydney showground he was simply the best but one demonstration ride with Ivan Mauger they were so close they really only needed one bike it was great racing in those days and great memories.

The difference between riders like Ole and others is the fact that he and a few other top riders can win on any track or surface.....ie plenty of riders with home advantage can look like world beaters but do absolutely nothing away from home...we all know em....Ole could win on small tight tracks and could also fly on huge fast tracks like the old Belle Vue Hyde rd .....one of the few riders i have seen pass Peter Collins from the back when Peter was at the peak of his powers......

My first speedway hero at Wolverhampton - a brilliant, charismatic rider who rejuvinated Coventry when he moved there. Was lucky enough to see him win at Wembley in 75 & 78. He wasnt everybody's cup of tea but for me as a dyed in the wool Wolves fan Ole & Sam Ermokenko are the greatest ever.

Ole was a large part of my childhood - especially his time at the Coventry Bees - the downloads of the the Bees at Leicester I remember going to the meeting - especially the rain at the end of the meeting - the Cradley meetings were also memorable - but I would like to know if you have any more of the 1970s meetings from World of Sport or ATV/Central TV as I didn't have a video recorder until the 1980s to tape meetings
