8:48 Although the green look stronger (lack of a better word) on the OLED on the left. The thing is, the LCD on the right gives more color variance and tone.. Look closely. The OLED the green looks exactly (well almost) the same on every single leaf. It's like it only has one shade of green. Although vibrant it's limited. The TV on the right shows green, but also various shades of green. Some are slightly darker green, some lighter. That to me is more "accuracy" and true to life reproduction of the image. Both have the same XR processor.. I mean you can see some of the leaves on the X90J are "dying" a little with that yellow look to it.. Very hard to see that on the OLED. Just in the more extreme cases. I find OLED gets too much praise at all times. Even when it's actually NOT doing the correct thing. It boggles my mind how people don't notice this.. Obviously the OLED is the BEST when it comes to contrast and looks fantastic. But it can black crush, it can be dim, it has issues with near perfect black levels (inherent with Organic LED, needing power and heat to light up), and it can show a lack of color gradients/shades and do it more uniformly. That said, I bet the X95J would show the colors even better than the X90J and more vibrant green. BUT still able to show the different shades of dark green, light green and hint of yellow on the leaves.

OLEDs look too blue on camera, especially when next to an LCD tv, making it impossible too judge from videos like these. But I did notice this part as well and the X90J did look far more natural (except this is not how the OLED looks irl)

I am a dedicated Gamer!!! One thing I see no reviewer ever mention is the fact that Game Developers in todays world of graphics love producing games that are overall dark and they love adding fog, haze and shadows to games. Personally I much prefer a LED over OLED. With an OLED some parts of most games you simply cannot see the game as it is too dark. This has nothing at all to do with function of either LED or OLED, it has to do with the way Developers design their games and the current trend of shadows, fog, haze and their lazy way of obscuring details with fog. I like an LED, and I think most gamers will find that an OLED gets too dark with most modern video games. Like I said I am a gamer, could care less about all the other SMART features, I look at screen quality and brightness, refresh rate, and the ability to actually get 120 hz from a gaming PC. Provided that the game is actually capable of 120 hz, in 4K, many are not. As for viewing angles, talking to the TV, instant Apps to Neflix and outer space.....Grin......I really do not care. When I turn on my TV it is for gaming or perhaps use as a PC monitor to watch a KZbin review on a game. I have not watched a complete movie in years. Beware of OLED, with modern game development and the way they like to get lazy and use excessive shadows, darkness, dimming, fog, haze etc, etc to hide graphics details an OLED will lots of times be so dark you cannot see parts of the games. A detail I see absolutely no reviewers address. I vote for the LED. Cheers Kit

100% agree. Every reviewer on KZbin seems to be getting kickbacks to pump up OLED. But in every side-to-side, LEDs outperform in brightness, which is most evident in side by side comparisons of snow scenes. Every OLED TV makes snow look gray. I don't want to watch a football game at Lambeau field in December and the snow doesn't look white. Contrast is great...until it can't allow for brightness.

Although this video shows some key differences, these kind of comparisons should be filmed with 2 cameras, simply because one is brighter than the other, cameras need to adjust exposure differently, if you perfectly adjust exposure to the led display, since its brighter, the oled is always going to look darker, if the exposure is adjusted to the oled, the led image is going to be over exposed... That said, it's always better to take a look at them by yourself... Yesterday I had the chance to look at the full array led and the contrast and blacks surprised me a lot, I was leaning towards the oled, but these full array got my attention cause they really have very good quality and very nice blacks in a way that I'm considering the full array instead of the oled mainly because of 4 advantages it has: - No risk of burn-in - Less energy consumption - Cheaper price - Better on brighter environments. (Although for home use this is not a real advantage for me and most users cause we can control a room brightesse) Thanks for sharing, nice video 👍

Thanks for this and all of your recent Sony videos, I've been following discussions on 2021 TVs all year as it's going to be my first time purchasing a TV over 22 inches. My last purchase was over 10 years ago so I've never had a FALD TV or an OLED. I've been looking at both the X95J and A80J, both will be an enormous upgrade for me and my main sticking points have been burn in risk vs blooming. I can deal with the lower contrast of LEDs without local dimming but the localised blooming in dark areas, app menus and loading screens will bother me. I've decided to go with the OLED, if I burn it in, lesson learnt and maybe at that time, a new LED technology will be available as a replacement :)

Thanks for the video. What I'm kind of missing in these types of comparisons is the consideration of users who have their TV hooked up to a computer. Yes, I watch movies, yes, I play games and yes, OLED adds that special something in terms of picture quality. However, I also use it for basically anything else computer related. Besides burn-in concerns, there appears to be an issue of forced automatic dimming whenever an OLED registers areas with a prolonged static picture, which is usually the case while browsing, multitasking, in office application and also some games (static task bars, windows, images etc.). Meaning, the TV will constantly and quite frequently reduce brightness during such activities to protect the screen, forcing you to take some kind of action to trigger the screen to brighten up again. I personally would find that >>quite

6:13 Even though OLED can do perfect contrast ratio. It still suffers because it's too dim.. Just look at the time stamp and pause it.. The color of the chopper and the whole image is extremely dim compared to the X90J FALD. So it's "advantage" isn't always much of one, because it cannot get bright enough. OLED can look fantastic. But I myself prefer more brightness. Blooming is only ever noticeable on a good FALD if its in total darkness. If you have some ambient lighting/bias Lighting. Blooming is basically non-existent in normal content. It's only in game load screens or menus/overlays where blooming can appear. And even then it's often not visible when you have ambient lighting, unless egregiously bad example. So the talk of "blooming" is exaggerated and only ever present in KZbin reviewer videos with cranked camera "ISO" and then almost always showing off TVs in totally dark room. Meaning it's deceptive and not in line with how most people, especially people buying an FALD LED TV would use it. It's clear in this video how the cheaper more budget X90J even beats out the A80J often times in a lit room. Blacks in a lit room to the naked eye looks nearly identical. That's just how our perception is. Because the blackest part is still the blacks on the TV and not your environmental surrounding. This is why you use LED light strip bias lighting with LCD TV especially if you want to view in a dark room. I love Sony processing so can't go wrong with any Sony XR TV IMO.. A80/90J looks fantastic, but an X95J in a lit room with much higher brightness for HDR will be better IMO. The OLEDs simply cannot reach it.. But in a dark room. The OLEDs win hands down.. So ultimately it comes down to: Do you sit in a dark room and watch all content in a dark room and no worries about burn in. Go with OLED. If you sit in a room with some light or even really bright light and want brighter HDR. Go FALD LED (only good ones of course).
@jimvlahos24883 жыл бұрын
I notice blooming in lots of cases on LCD TVs. Yes, OLED is brighter but unless I was watching in a REALLY bright room I'd turn down the brightness on a LCD anyways. OLEDs aren't ideal for REALLY bright rooms but you don't have to be in a dark room for them to be better than LCD. I currently have a LG 1080p OLED from 2014. Even set to 70% brightness it's bright enough. The current model OLEDs get much brighter than the one I have now. I just ordered an A80J. Can't wait for delivery.

Excellent presentation and very useful! However, you said that the 2 screens behind you have just 'straight from the box settings'. Therefore, I wonder how much the differences would merge with a bit of tweaking with the settings ie slightly brighten the OLED, etc., Also, although the contrast is great on the OLED, I did notice that often the LED seemed to be showing more picture detail. Is this simply a setting issue, ie maybe slightly drop the factory set contrast on the OLED? This would be my major concern because I have found some Blu-ray vids unwatchable compared to the normal DVD due to their high contrast level (Black Hawk Down springs to mind). I get the contrast issue, but am concerned about the depth of blacks swamping the detail.

How does Sony KD85X91CJ compare with Sony OLED TVs? We found KD85X91CJ with $2200 price in Costco. We are looking for ~85 inch TV and watch movies most time at night. OLED doesn't seems have ~85 inch TV? Thanks & regards.

I had a B6 Oled, and last year bought the sony x90h. I watch a lot of movies and game, and I must say, what a difference Oled is to Led. Ive bought the A80J because I just dont enjoy watching movies on a led screen. The picture and detail are incredible. Once you go Oled, you can’t go back to led. That’s my opinion. 2320€ with a 5 year warranty For the 65” version, great product 👍🏻

@@renascent88 Hi, I don’t watch regular tv channels, only streaming series, movies or blu ray 4k. The Oled issues have almost vanished, LG has better implantations to prevent burn in imo, I have the C1 too, but Sony has an image for movies excellent. Btw, I got the 77” A80J and the C1 55”. Both good tvs, but LG doesn’t allow you to change the gamma in Dolby Vision, tends to get a bit dark, but Sony allows you to change everything. If you watch varied content, you wont get Burn in. Hope to have helped 😊

Probably cause the x90j is not the best Qled to represent Qleds in this situation.. full array yes but with only 24 large zones. A q90t or a qn90a would not have that kind of blooming. (More zones and better algorithm) OLEDs are far from being king in my opinion lol but they are amazing!
@你是國王3 жыл бұрын
@@sweedishpie360 more zones cause problems aswell because in tricky scenes they have more work to do. You still get blooming which to me after having oled it’s just not an option the infinite contrast itself kills any lcd or qled. Qleds look too bright and unrealistic where as oleds Andre so natural and have deep colours with great HDR pop especially in dark scenes and also bright. I don’t care personally about having super bright TVs my last tv was a qled and whilst that had 1000 nits of brightness hdr it still has blooming and the way I see it is that if you can get black you don’t necessarily need lots of brightness because you aren’t battling with a washed out look like lcd/qled due to hugely lower contrast ratios.
@sweedishpie3603 жыл бұрын
@@你是國王 blooming is highly overblown. Yes there's slight blooming on Qleds but on a flagship Qled, it's next to non existent. Don't know what Qled you had, doubt it was a flagship one. Feel free to visit my channel if you wanna see an example of what a q90t looks like. Tell me if you see any blooming. I find it funny when people say Qleds have unrealistic colors. How about OLEDs with their "true blacks"? Nothing in this world is true black and OLEDs struggle with anything that's near black, resulting in blacks that are crushed. But I get it, it impresses viewers.. As far as washed out looks on a qled, set it up properly and you won't get that washed out look. I much prefer a brighter, punchier display (especially in hdr) than a dim display where you can't see shit in a bright room.

The Sony A90J is definitely brighter than A80J.... It can easily be seen side by side..
@bherbo39433 жыл бұрын
Except it’s really not. Especially when both are calibrated. Anybody reviewer who has both will tell you that. The only time the A90 is visibly brighter is in vivid mode. And during highlights of SOME HDR content, not all.
@reviewforthetube64853 жыл бұрын
It 100 percent is even calibrated John just covered this from value electronics you know the calibrator that calibrated the tvs for the US shootout every year he said the a90j is brighter in the smaller highlights and it's def noticeable it's one of the onpy oled tvs noticeable hell Vincent from HDTV test just covers how much brighter then a90j is then any oled he's seen it has the most impactful hdr he's seen sure the a80j is close and similar but the a90j will be brighter on his end just like everyone else's was even b the installer saw it with his a90j in the comparison was still brighter then his a80j in hdr and yes his was calibrated it's boosting the highlights luckily Vincent checked it next to a reference monitor and it wasn't needlessly brightening things he said it's the closest any oled has gotten so thats huge imo
@bherbo39433 жыл бұрын
@@reviewforthetube6485 I’ve watched every reviewer who’s compared both. from Vincent, down to quantum, & even from newcomers like tech with KG. They all say The A90 is brighter yes. But not by that much. It even has a more aggressive ABL than the a80 does. In most real world content you can’t really notice the difference. It’s only noticeable depending on the content. You only truly notice the difference when it comes to HDR content. But for regular things like SDR and sports the difference is negligible. Unless you have then right next to each other. And even then it’s not that much brighter.

@@bherbo3943 it's an olrd I'm not saying by much but having that extra in smaller highlights give sit insane 3 dimensionality as John covered and stated its just flat out better on there latest stream Vincent has come out and say Sony is better in years he did this year even his should you buy a80j video he stated Sony is just better this year I mean its not hard hard read between the lines I get what you are saying sure it isn't 500 nits difference but the way the Sony processor is working this yeer it really does add that bit of punch on the highlights they have all said it just does hdr different it really pushes and pops where it needs to I'm talking about Sony a80j and a90j together on this I like the fact it keeps its apl normal with onyl a bit more while the smaller highlights really pop it give sit such a good look you also need to go watch KG again he said the a80j has more aggressive dimming he just covered it I talk to KG on a daily basis the a90j is brighter he will tell you straight up I'm not saying the a80j isn't because the a80j is brighter then any other oled out right now including the g1 sure the a90j isn't much brighter just a tad I'm talking in general over other oled tvs I wasn't meaning just against the a80j you sre correct tho the a80j is absolutely very close to the a90j I don't disagree and it may be the better buy due to the price but that heatsink really helps with retention with how hard these panels are being pushed so for me it was worth it both the a80j and a90j when using brightness preffered have abl but when using gradient preffered as you should for reference works just fine and doesn't happen also but the kg thing you said he alresdy stated the a80j can be a bit more agressive so did keep it classy and others El mejor even av passion all covered this

Hi Nick, great comparison. It does depend on your room and whether you need that extra size however in most cases I would choose quality over size. Especially as the step up from the X95J to the A80J is from LED to OLED. The colours pop so much more and the experience is that much more cinematic. I hope this helps! Cheers, Jonathan
